2018 Reflection
Both change and stability characterized my 2018. I graduated college, moved to a new state, and began graduate school (without knowing a single person within 100 miles)--all of which was at least a little scary. But I also had the support of my family, friends, and wonderful boyfriend. It was overall a good year.
Some things that happened:
-began the new year at Sam’s house with a tasty marg as a somewhat newly minted 21 yo.
-visited my boyfriend’s suburban home for the first time and had some AMAZING asian-inspired tacos in the city. It snowed a crazy amount at home while I was gone and I began to realize how much I hate the inconveniences snow brings along with it.
-submitted three more grad school applications. Feared for the future as I was doing it.
-had a falling out with someone I thought was a close friend. We haven’t talked since, and I’m not sad about it. I think we both needed each for one specific period and I’m thankful that we had each other then, but friendships sometimes run their course.
-made phone calls for a local upstate sc candidate throughout the semester and registered voters while feeling like it would not make a difference
--celebrated 6 months with my favorite human. We ate sushi burritos and held hands under the table.
-interned at a conference over spring break
-made a decision about grad school and decided to move somewhere kind of new
-graduated from the best university alongside some of the best people :) Celebrated my grandpa’s 90th birthday the same day.
-began working regularly at the museum
-voted in my last South Carolina election for a while at least and moved to a (swing?) state
-went to Knoxville with my boyfriend and absolutely fell in love. It’s such a perfect city. Toured UT and had THE most amazing hamburger at Stock and Barrel. Highly recommend.
-started grad school and became a baby adult
-cried a lot the first few days on my own and hoped it would get better
-my boyfriend found a job and moved within an hour and a half of me! Still feeling very lucky to be able to drive to him on a moment’s notice.
-went without a car for about a month and realized how much I take being able to move freely for granted.
-visited Clem for the fourth year of Olive Garden birthday celebrations and had such a great time with my college pals...and two weeks later Stu and Zoe came to visit! was such a happy month
-survived Election Day and spent the day running back and forth between my classes and the nearby staging location. Promptly got sick that night from stress and woke up to mostly good news the next morning
-finished the semester strong and came home for all of December
-went to an alumni event with Glenn to watch the Clemson playoffs and felt like I was back in Clem for a while
-rang in the new year with my sweet boyfriend over FaceTime discussing the history of college football playoffs
While 2018 was good for me, I’m looking forward to continued professional and personal growth in 2019 and to new opportunities to effect change in my small slice of the world.
