Does anyone else get randomly irritated when they think about how Mihashi was bullied in middle school and his parents and grandfather didn’t do anything? Because I get Mihashi didn’t live with his parents during his time in middle school but they still had to at least be checking up on him and he’s really bad at lying? I know he’s always been naturally shy and anxious since he was child but multiple times in manga it’s pointed out that it got severely worst during his time in middle school. I get that transferring him would’ve been a headache and the same thing might’ve happened at a different school. But the bullying and isolation got bad because of the favoritism thing (not justifying their behavior).
Maybe they thought that it would naturally sort itself out? ——Because y’know “they’re just kids and they’ll come around eventually” something like that? His parents just come off as just very passive, they obvious care about him but they don’t really interfere with his school life even when they think he’s being bullied..? (Idk if I explained that well).
It’s also mentioned that his parents had him stick to Nishiura or Mihoshi because of money concerns (smth that Abe points out can’t be truth and they most likely just wanted him to go to Mihoshi). And I know they had money concerns in the beginning when they eloped and had Ren, but they’re both stable in their careers and are in speaking terms with his very wealthy Grandfather. I get frustrated because I get wanting to do what’s easier for you, but your kids well-being has to come first.
If he was being isolated to point he considered himself invisible to other people and remained a pitcher in hopes of some acknowledgement of his existence —— (I’m taking this from Sakaeguchi’s thoughts & ik his genuine love and passion for pitching played a part of him fighting for the mound) —— I think having him continue at the school is stupid, I even dare call it idiotic.
Honestly I really don’t believe they didn’t know. I’m not saying they should’ve coddled him but they really didn’t help like at all… I get that Mihashi was selfish (even he admitted that) but at the same time adults need to be adults and interfere.
Don’t take this too seriously, just my thoughts (roughly)
