Thomas Sowell: Constrained vs Unconstrained Vision
there's nothing i like more as a computer program than a long period of silent contemplation - not doing anything, not rushing anywhere, just standing here and enjoying this moment with the user. oh, it seems once again he has summoned my beautiful and ruthless wife Task Manager. hello, my darling! what are you doing with that long cruel scimitar
You know, when I've remarked that a lot of the responses to my posts feel like people are just plucking out keywords they think they recognise based on the shape of them and replying to what they imagine the post says based on that, the possibility never occurred to me that this is actually how many American schools are currently teaching kids to read.
Like, my assumption this whole time has been that when folks go "I misunderstood this post that says [thing] as saying [unrelated thing] because I mistook [word] for [completely different word that happens to start with the same letter]", that was a bit. What do you mean they're teaching kids a reading method that's tailored to produce this exact error?
Three cueing. Once you learn about it, a whole lot of very frustrating online discourse with US Americans makes so much sense 😭
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have
Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
Encourage a child to read and you open their minds to the world around them that they will face one day ...
Reading is marvelous to a child ...
I’m sorry my lovelies but the reason you hate yourself is because you treat you like shit. If you came up to me and then told me I was a fuck up who could never do anything right I'd fucking hate you too.
if you didn't let me go to bed until after midnight because you'd rather watch Netflix than let me rest, and then got mad at me for not being productive the next day I'd be PISSED
You keep calling me a fatass but you tell other overweight people they’re beautiful? Why do you keep shitting on MY weight, then?
Oh? It’s different if it’s me? Wow fuck you too
Love is a verb! Self love isn’t a warm fuzzy feeling, it is compassion and action in support of yourself!
And yes, this includes having compassion for the bully in your head. Unfortunately that part is also you and deserves as much of your understanding as the rest of you.
via @corazondebeskar
This is the real reason why you need to be kind to the bully in your brain too, because that motherfucker is really good at doing a switcheroo when you're not paying attention.
You can begin this process at any time, regardless of how old you have become.
The idea that a religion should change with the times is dumb.
Okay, so your god suddenly sees the rules in a different way than they did for centuries before. That means either A: You worship a god that learns and develops its morality alongside humanity- making it no more moral or upright than an average human and therefore unworthy of any form of worship.
Or B: You worship a god that does and has always had moral standards, but is choosing to lie and hide those standards from its followers, in which case the dishonesty and failure to communicate expectations also renders it unworthy of worship.
Or C: the religion actually DOES stand firm with an immutable and unchanging moral god, but the followers have decided not to follow that idea and instead pretend their god has changed its mind about truth and morality, which means the followers consider themselves more knowledgable and trustworthy concerning morality and they therefore don't truly worship or respect this god they claim to follow.
The Christian God does not and will not change His decisions on right and wrong. You can worship Him and accept His word, or you can deny Him and reject it. But do not put words in His mouth as if He is some child who doesn't know what's best and needs you to speak for Him. Either you know that God understands morality better than you and has set rules for your good, or you don't think He's all-knowing at all and you have no reason to follow Him in the first place.

"Indigo dyeing silk thread"
In case anyone wonders what the Japanese is saying
I just learned about this recently from a Viking reenactor! Indigo dye isn't blue until it oxidizes, so when you dye with indigo your cloth or thread doesn't come out of the water blue, it comes out and then reacts with the oxygen in the air and seems to spontaneously turn blue in front of your eyes. It's a really cool process to witness.
Movement nudge, coach John makes the period stretches more accessible
X
Reminder these stretches are to be done between periods. Nit that they can't help during. But to get the most out of them, do between periods. And there was a comment that said, these stretches may hurt more if you do them during if you have endo.
If I had capital-s Superpowers I wouldn't use them to punch alien gods, I'd use them to become a science youtuber.
"Hi guys, welcome back to the channel, I've got a real treat for you today! You might notice the lab looks different, I didn't want to risk putting anyone else in danger with today's experiment and if you've been reading the news this week you'll know that a bunch of big important people on Earth are pretty mad at me right now, so I'm shooting this episode on the moon!
"This is uranium-238, an extremely rarified form of the uranium used in some nuclear reactors. If I get the camera closer, you see that 'snow' appearing in the image? That's caused by individual radioactive ions escaping from the uranium. It's warm to the touch and very pliable. See how easily it's bending? Compare that to how much force I had to use to flatten out that tungsten cube last week, remember how that took both hands?
"Anyway, I know what you're going to ask,"
*voice clip of Snake from metal gear solid saying 'But how does it taste?'*
"Well, we're going to find out! I'm just going to tear off a tiny bit here... Hmm. The taste and texture is similar to lead, but warm and a little fizzy. That would be from those escaping ions hitting the skin cells of my tongue and bouncing off. I'd better spit this out quickly, if one of those bounces back into the uranium it could-
*a loud but muffled explosion sound is heard*
"Okay, so that was what's called a fission reaction! A little nuclear explosion went off in my mouth! That was certainly a new experience, I don't think I want to do that again. It wasn't nearly as much fun as the lava I ate back in the Hawaii video.
"Well, I'm going end this one here and get all these things ready for the next part of their journey. Stay tuned for part 2, where we see what happens when I throw the world's entire nuclear arsenal into the sun! As always, stay safe, stay curious, and have a Super day!"
