haku kusanagi x reader [fluff/angst, established relationship]
[i don't know why i wrote this. this is my first time writing a fic. basically i gave into my impulsive thoughts and decided to write the scenario that came to my mind, when hearing the spring voice line. i tried to be in character. don't at me if it went ooc. a little suggestive at the end.]
"My family home is pretty famous in our area for its cherry blossoms… When I used to be a kid, my friends and I used to go exploring through them at night."
The words came from his lips seemingly at random. You hadn't expected it. A simple nostalgia… right?
Afternoon classes at Darkwick are exhausting. Obviously sitting inside the lecture hall is tiring for anyone. And the drowsiness after the lunch will only fuel the boredom. You hadn't meant to spend the night in Hotarubi. Before you realized, your feet carried you to the rain garden instead of Clementia.
It was in the bamboo forest that Haku caught sight of you. Of course, as always, your boyfriend made his entrance by startling you. The teasing only ended when you nudged his ribs. But still, his smile never wavered even after you both sat at the porch, together.
He was dressed casually, the uniform long gone, unlike yours.
Haku once said that watching the wisteria by the lake in the rain was a sight that soothed the eyes. It was one of the reasons why most of the days in your week turned out to be sleepovers at Hotarubi, in his room. He didn't mind. In fact, he liked it.
You tried to focus on the droplets grazing the lake and the sight of wisteria petals drenching ever so smoothly. But how could you focus, when Haku was there across you… back leaned against the wall, one leg perched up, elbow on his knee, looking soft?
How long had it been since you both started dating? It wasn't an impulse. It wasn't love at first sight.
Honestly, you never know when the friendship turned to mutual feelings from each other. When you both confronted the feelings, neither refused to admit. It began slowly… like sunlight breaking through the thick fog.
But sometimes you wonder, whether the sunlight really has broken through the fog— or is it just your illusion.
Your gaze returned to Haku, still watching the wisteria garden. You recalled what he had just said. He used to go exploring the cherry blossoms with his friends.
You tried to form an image in mind. Haku, as a child, carefree, smiling with his friends. Running between the trees, cherry blossoms raining down around him. You didn't hide the smile that came to your lips.
But then again… something else came to your mind. Something he had told you before, which you had tried not to pry into again.
How he had mentioned once his family was glad to have him gone. That single remark was enough for you to understand how his relationship with his family was. As the shrine heir, he obviously had duties he needed to uphold.
You looked at him once more. This time, the softness felt like exhaustion hidden beneath gentleness to you. You had no idea what troubled him. Or what he is going through. But you know one thing. He is enduring something he doesn't want. The rueful smiles he sometimes directed at you said it all.
"That is nice to hear." You finally replied, breaking the silence. His smile widened a fraction, but his eyes didn’t meet yours.
Another moment of silence filled only with the gentle sound of rain. If one asked you how it feels to spend time as his girlfriend, you could never bring a flaw in the way he treated you. He was kind and polite, reliable even before this became love. But after? His softness became something that made you safe.
Yes. Safety—that was the right word.
You felt loved.
When you hesitated, he stayed by your side. When your voice rose in anger, he remained calm. His presence alone was enough.
He is quiet and observant. One who listens, even if it took hours to sit through your rambling. He remembered the smallest things about you, how you bit your nails and fidgeted when nervous, the way you hold the mug, the way your eyes would furror with focus when writing.
He made sure you were never insecure. As much as he found your jealousy cute, a single disappointed or hurt look from you was enough for him to know he shouldn’t push any further—and he never would.
That was Haku… someone who let you set the terms.
No suffocating possessiveness.
Someone who would rather whisper, 'I’m yours,' than claim, 'You’re mine.'"
"You're thinking…" His voice broke through your thoughts.
You blinked.
Feeling your silence, his gaze lifted from the rain to meet yours. His smile did not falter. "What is it that's bothering you, princess?" He tilted his head slightly. "Did I do something wrong?"
Your lips pursed into a thin line. Did he do something wrong? The question repeated itself in your mind. No. He hadn’t. He never did anything wrong. He was… what you dared to call the perfect boyfriend.
A soft exhale escaped your lips as you drew your knees up, arms wrapped around them, your back resting against the beam. Your gaze drifted back to the wisteria. "No. You didn't. You did everything right."
Another silence.
Then he leaned in a little bit. As always he replied playfully, "Then why is my princess speaking it as a complaint?"
Right. Why did you voiced it harsh?
Your silence somehow made his smirk waver. But he didn’t rush you into speaking. He knew you were carefully choosing the right words to express how you feel. And he gave you time for it. But this time, the silence felt like needles pricking into your skin.
You looked at him again. You didn't know where to start. Nevertheless you did.
"You know me well, don't you Haku?" You didn't smile. "Every little thing about me. Making me feel secure and safe, treating me like something fragile. Not arguing back. Dealing with each of my intolerable quirks. Making me feel loved. Doing everything right…"
Haku didn't interrupt. But after you finished, he blinked, a bit confused.
"Shouldn't I?" He didn’t try to make it a joke.
Another sigh left your lips, your gaze didn't soften. "No. You should," you said, voice firm.
"Then…?"
You took the time to choose the right words again. Because you didn't want this to escalate as an argument. You just wanted him to understand.
"Haku… What's bothering me is not about the way you treat me. It’s about the way you refuse to be treated by me."
He stilled.
You continued. "You make everything right for me. So why do you refuse to let me do the same for you?"
That made his breath hitch. And you understood he wasn't doing it unintentionally. He was, indeed, refusing to become attached to you, while making you attach to him deeply.
It felt unfair. You know you shoudn't feel this way. After all he made it so easy, didn’t he? You got a boyfriend yourself who gives you princess treatment without expecting anything in return.
But no. All you felt… was disappointment.
The way your eyes faded in color made his widen slightly.
"I didn't mean to…" A weak protest and you shut it down instantly. "No. You did mean. Even if you didn’t… intention doesn’t erase how you make me feel."
His eyes narrowed a bit. "Princess… aren't you thinking too much into this?" he said, his voice calm.
You knew it… it was his own way of changing the subject.
But this time, you refused to back down.
"Haku." The warning in your tone made his upcoming defense shut.
"You think I don't understand. But I know. You spoil me rotten with your love for two reasons. One… to make me stay and feel attached. Two… a distraction from confronting the fact that you fear opening up."
His eyes widened. You couldn’t hear it, but the way his jaw tightened indicated the quickening pulse beneath his ribs.
You continued. "You read me like an open book. But refuse to break down those walls for me."
His lips parted, as if to defend, but for the first time, he chose not to speak.
Your eyes closed in another sigh of exhaustion. When your eyelids lifted, the softness in them melted his defenses.
"Haku…" this time you couldn't make your voice firm. "Stop doing things for me as if it’s to make me stay… as if holding me close would somehow be wrong. Honestly… now it all feels the same, Haku."
His breath hitched again.
"You were never possessive." You smiled, dry. "But don’t you think doing things to make me owe you is a worse way of ensuring I have to stay… rather than me choosing to stay?"
When all you got was silence as the reply, you let out another sigh. Leaning in a bit, you stared deep into his eyes—the same slit eyes that had made you swoon countless times. Now the conflict within them made your stomach churn in something raw and ugly.
"Tell me one thing…" You made your voice soft as much as you could. "Do you wake up each day, afraid that I won't come to you anymore?"
This time you could hear that thump of his heart clearly.
He sighed and leaned back, eyes drifting to the ceiling above. His chuckle was a tired one. "You always do this princess… Placing me in positions that I would rather avoid."
Another pause.
"I do." His tone became soft, careful, as if peeling open parts of himself that would hurt both of you. "I'm afraid… one day, you will leave."
This time it was your breath that hitched. You expected it. But hearing it from him, made it feel as if icy water were dripping down your skin.
He doesn’t trust you to stay. He is protecting himself, while you let him see you vulnerable. The thoughts made an ugly weight pressing on your heart.
"You fear abandonment." Your voice was cold and sharp.
The coldness made him pause. But he didn't deny. "I do."
"So you refused to get attached so that it won't hurt when I leave."
"…Yes."
"So the deflection whenever I promised forever wasn't a joke, but fear?"
He hesitated. "…Yes." His eyes softened. "There is no forever princess… People change, and feelings can too."
You knew he wasn’t speaking of himself… he was speaking of you, believing you would change, that your feelings would fade.
The safest choice would be to end everything with him. Because what is the point in staying with someone who refuses to be loved by you?
But wouldn't it make his fear come true?
Moreover, do you really want to leave?
"Is it because of your family?" You asked careful. The silence was the right answer.
"I see…"
Both of your gaze now returned to the wisteria. The rain still streamed through the air.
"You are disappointed." He never raised his voice.
"I'm." And you didn't deny. "You love me… expecting this to stop one day. Fearing something that may never come."
"Pathetic right?" He smiled rueful. "Sometimes I really do wish princess… I could look at you without thinking about the 'ifs'."
Your eyes met again. You didn't break the contact. "I won't fix you."
He blinked. "...Huh?"
"I’m not a therapist… I can’t fix your trauma." Your voice was a bit harsh.
You moved a little closer, leaving just a small space between the two of you. "I'm your girlfriend. Someone who chose to stay with you. Not out of obligation, and not because I expect anything in return. I chose you."
His breath hitched. His eyes never left yours. He looked like he wanted to drop his guard and hold you close. To relax into your embrace. But… the fear was like a reflex deep in his nervous system. It was the same reflex as pulling your hand back from a hot object.
You didn't back down. Your eyes softened. Leaning in another bit, on your knees, you gently placed your head on his shoulder. For a second… he didn't move. But then, ever so slowly, as if testing the calm of still water, his arms snaked around you.
A soft sigh escaped his lips as his shoulders relaxed. He buried his face in your hair, inhaling the scent of cinnamon. It calmed him down… as always.
He will never admit. But, you are the only one who made him feel safe. Deep down… he carves it. He wants it ever minute of the day. He just wouldn’t admit it.
"I don't want you to change over night." Your voice again made him pause. "I don't want to heal you. I want you to heal yourself. For that, I will stay—each and every day, whenever you want. But… just express, when you want me. Can you promise at least that?"
A moment of silence. You were about to assume he wouldn’t let his guard down… but then, something happened.
He pulled you close, practically onto his lap. You gasped, a warm flush spreading across your cheeks. "O-Oi… Someone might see…" You quickly protested.
But he smiled. "Stay."
Your breath hitched. For the first ever time… he is asking you to stay. Slowly you relaxed into his lap, the trust coming naturally.
He leaned close, his breath hitting your face. His lips were inches from yours. His hand lifted deliberately. For the first time, he didn’t hesitate to place them on your cheek. His fingers grazed your smooth skin, caressing it gently.
"You don’t know, princess. You think I’m not letting you understand me… but here you are, reading me like an open book."
Your eyes widened slightly. "I…"
"Sometimes it makes me terrified." His eyes softened, his smile highlighted with melancholy. "About how perceptive you are. How easily you understand me. Keeping me in a position where I have no choice but to open myself to you."
Another pause.
His finger cupped her chin. "I will try, princess… I will try to heal. I will look at you, not thinking about past or future, only the present."
He tilted his head, "But… just stay."
You were speechless…
You never thought confronting this will work out. But here he is… willing to try to heal.
Slowly, a smile curled on your lips. Your eyes glistened with unshed tears. "Yes… I want to be your home too."
He leaned in, forehead pressing against yours. "Then… let me be yours, princess. Let me call you my home."
The warmth of his body flushed to you, sent a shiver down your spine.
When you give him the nod of consent, he didn't hesitate to close the remaining gap between the two of you. The kiss wasn't rushed. It was soft, gentle, sweet like dessert. Because for the first ever time he is willing to trust you. And you are willing to stay when he doubts.
His lips moved against yours, head tilted to the side. Your kiss was still messy as ever. But that only made him smile against your scarlet lips. His arms held your waist tightly, one hand moving up to tangle gently in your hair. The other pressed you close to his chest.
A soft gasp made your lips part. And his tongue snaked past the swollen lips. Words couldn’t express the adrenaline rushing through your veins, or the way butterflies danced in your stomach.
When he pulled back, the thin thread of saliva broke between the two of you. Your cheeks were still flushed. Lips swollen. Both of you breathed heavily, trying to calm the racing of your hearts.
He was the first to recover. And he didn't waste a minute not to tease you.
"Ah? Don't tell me my princess did all the talk here for this kiss. I don't mind though."
"Shut up," you hissed weakly and nudged his ribs.
"Ow—" He feigned the hurt, yet leaned in to kiss the pout on your lips, making you flush again.
Slowly he pulled your head down to rest on his chest, making you listen to the rapid thud in his heart. It’s for you.
"During one spring… I will take you to my place princess."
You blinked and looked up at him. His smile overflowed with fondness, warmth and affection. "So that we can explore the cherry blossoms together…"
You smiled, despite everything. Because for the first time, Haku isn’t thinking about a future where you leave. He's thinking about a future where you stay. Now it feels safe… real… finally together.
[that's the end...
i know its not that good.. but thank you for reading ヽ(✿゚▽゚)ノ]
From calling us a killjoy to outright declaring us his wife, Shion escalated real fast.
But wife? Out of everything he could’ve chosen, he went straight to wife.
And the thing is — he wasn’t joking. He didn’t say it playfully or teasingly. His reaction genuinely felt like a possessive husband. The way he was ready to kill Jin just for holding our hand? That wasn’t a crush reaction. That was territorial.
Shion is extremely territorial.
And him wanting to hear his name from our lips again and again? THAT'S TYPICAL OBSESSIVE/ YANDERE BEHAVIOR. (demanding permission for calling others? controlling behavior.)
At first, I thought maybe he was correlating us with someone from his past. But if that were the case, wouldn’t he use something like “girlfriend”? Or calling her "mine"? Why jump straight to “wife”?
But consider how he views people. He sees the Dionysia ghouls as his family.
Between “girlfriend” and “wife,” the more permanent, structural role is wife.
So maybe this isn’t about romance first — it’s about placement. He wants us inside his circle, inside his system. And in that system, “wife” is the closest, most permanent position he can assign without it being weird (thankfully he didn’t go with “sister”). Out of every position in the family, wife is the one that we chose, and has permanence.
You get that don't you? How at the last part he basically manipulated us by saying, "You won't do that to me right?" Like the guy is already demanding loyalty like in marital bond.
That’s what makes it intense. He doesn’t ease into bonds — he categorizes and claims.
Also, the way he was staring at our interactions with Mio? At first I thought he didn’t like us talking to Mio. But later, when we stepped back while he was talking, he told us “Don’t.” His reason was that we don't do that with Mio.
See? he wasn’t just watching. He was observing us. How we interact friendly with others. And he want it to be directed at him too. This is not really jealousy. Its just he wants her to treat him as a family too.
He wants us to talk to him the way we talk to Mio.
That says a lot.
I think it started with him projecting his loneliness into us, and we reminding him of someone.
The obsession is going to be twisted, I can already tell.
And even though this isn’t an otome, I GOT TO SEE MY TWO HUSBANDS, JIN AND SHION, FIGHTING OVER ME. FWNWNJWNJNJ
Jo? I don’t care what the gender is — I need him/her in both ways.
Elias? Even though Shion was my fav, I was really excited to have a mission with Elias. And he spending most of the time with us? Over the moon... BUT After that last part, he shot straight to the top of my BETRAYER LIST. (Still forgiving him for the face card.)
And Mio? Absolute safe zone. We really just became besties.
AND THEN LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST... THE MISSION WAS FREAKING AWESOME. ESPEIALLY THE LAST ON STAGE PART ALONG WITH RIDE BACK TO DARKWICK IN CAR..... GOSH!
Me trying hard to be loyal to Jin, along with the side obsession with Haku, Sho and Rui...
And then dev really had to go and give me Shion, who turned out to be my exact type...
Fu*k it! I am going with him....
[Honestly with all the shenigans Shion did, I really thought him to be intimidating stoic type guy. But turned out to be what I wanted, unhinged, crazy, yandere type! And I am here for it!]
Well Elias was already one of my fav, now Mio is too. I have mixed feelings about Jo (?), but now I feel like he is that reliable, yet exhausted with everything, type senior. Can't deny... these 4 are shady with the plot...
Guys Kaito's death is brutal because my boy didn't even processed what had happened.
So the question is, what we had got was not a demon arm all along. Then doesn't that mean mc is still cursed? But what about the spider lily on her back?
As the most awaited ep 22 came to an end in a very tensed cliffhanger, let me tell you something.
Now there are two possible theories for the fate of MC —
1. The Institute is going to lock her up.
But at least a few of the ghouls will go against that idea, and is that another clash I am smelling…?
Even though some ghouls act like they don’t care about her, they definitely wouldn’t like the idea of Darkwick locking her up. Jin, Subaru, Leo, Alan and a few others — they’d surely oppose it, both for personal and general reasons. A few others might stay silent too, for their own reasons.
2. The Sage’s Ring is going to save her. OKAY HEAR ME OUT… THIS MIGHT BE DISCUSEED EARLIER…. BUT IT IS NOW THAT THIS THOUGHT CAME TO MY MIND….Hyde confirmed that the ring is a powerful anomaly (forgot the rank), but its full potential is not known. He said it was destroyed or something right?
So far, we know two things about it: It can shapeshift into another anomaly, at first it was Hera's Snake. It's shapeshifting was damn powerful that not even the institute understood it was sage's ring. Then It enhances stigma.
But what if the MC becomes something like Kyklos — except instead of turning into an unconscious flower monster, she becomes a powerful being with her memories intact?
Like a human devouring demon and becoming a ghoul rather than letting the kyklos control her. Ed is already a vampire + ghoul… so what if she becomes something similar too? That could maybe explain the whole “Champion” thing.
I might be totally wrong, but what if the ring’s real power isn’t just amplifying the ghouls’ abilities — but controlling them?
The ring the Archangel Michael gave Solomon allowed him to “bind the demons.” And MC’s Sage’s Ring has the same pentagram design as Solomon’s ring.
Since Season 2 has already been confirmed, we know the story is gonna continue— that is something even bigger has to take place.
As the main character, she needs a reason to stay in Darkwick. And what’s a more logical reason than her having the ability to control each and every ghoul — or even the demons they’ve devoured, not just their power?
I just really hope that when she said she’d “consider becoming a ghoul if a demon came in front of her,” it wasn’t just a joke — but actual foreshadowing.
Or maybe something else take place… Time loop or time travel or anything. But her breaking the curse with still being a human is just impossible at this point… Something have to happen to her… It is bound to happen to her… Because the dev just straight up love her so much….
Thanks… Everything I said is probably going to end up being wrong… But sharing wrong theories is exciting in a way, isn't it?
If I was in MC's shoes I would have thrown a brick at Rui for ruining the last chance I had since kyklos has become a denizen, no way it can be killed by a human or ghoul.
At the same time if I was in Rui's shoes I would have hesitated too and fell straight for the act. As someone who was being blamed for murdering, it would be difficult for him to intentionally kill a person, knowing very well there are her parents searching for her...
And that was exactly what the girl need. time...she knew there were just seconds remaining ane she showed him the locket at the exact moment. Bit*h.... I hope you rot in hell..
YOU HAVE GOTTA BE FREAKING KIDDING ME...WENT OFFLINE FOR a WHILE AND CAME BACK ONLY to SEE MY HAKU IN HIS FROSTHEIM ERA.... WTF....LORE DROP... INDEED THIS IS FLASHBACK... ABT CLASH..????...PLZ...
HAKU WITHOUT HIS EARRINGS AND THE FROSTHEIM TIE... WITH THE SNOW BG...OH MY GOD.... I WILL. DIE... I AM SCREAMING.... GIVE ME THE NEXT EP.. NOW
Oh my! The line up with Taiga and Haku makes sense. We guys are gonna find the kyklos. Seems like there is only limited time before mc becomes the anomaly
