Hank had given up on family when Cole died, swearing off allowing himself to get attached to anyone else. Connor never had a family to begin with, created by a heartless corporation content to use him until he had nothing left to give. But now that the revolution is over and androids are free, Hank and Connor have the chance to have what they never thought possible and build a new life together as a family.

I’m at the end of the challenge finally, with the theme Always. This has been a lot of fun to participate in, and I’m glad I got the chance this year.

Detroit: Become Family, "Calm" (and "Confidence" in a way) Prompt

Specifically to paint 'opposite' to the previous scene, we have Connor being successful in a bust and Hank is in Proud-Papa!mode instead, hehe. Connor followed the rules this time and did his job well (and safely!).

It looks like an old-timey bank, but I loved the design too much to pass up on it. And it was funny including NPCs that are just there to look impressed :) I realize some things are anachronistic here other than the bank, but welp, my pixel resources are limited ;P

I hope the 'ruffle hair' effect paid off and that Connor's blue LED is pretty visible.

Detroit: Become Family, "Devotion" Prompt

Kinda going backwards here, but I spent the most time on it... Even though I couldn't finish completing all the prompts, I wanted to leave this for last 😊

It captures a different meaning in terms of 'devotion' because I mean it as a 'devoted tribute' to a fic that makes me endlessly happy/inspired. So, this goes out to @woo-lesbeano

Her story "Investigations and Emotions (And Handling Both)" is something I always go back to, so as a 'thank you,' I wanted to render a certain scene: Human!Connor finally catching a break and eating falafel while Android!Hank watches on protectively/affectionately.

Detroit: Become Family, "Troubled" (and "Doubt" in a way) Prompt

For this prompt, I considered Connor getting in trouble (with Hank) for getting involved in a red ice bust. So, here we have Pissed-Off-Dad!Hank grilling him in a literal interrogation as he tries to get his kid to confess he was needlessly reckless (and to promise to *never* do this again) :P

We have Gavin as a bonus character too, finally sympathizing with Connor somewhat 😅

Oh, and I have the red LED kinda visible - to highlight a contrast since the next part features a blue LED ^^

Detroit: Become Family, "Darkness" & "Light" Prompts

Ok, so I was cheap this year and started accumulating prompts without sharing them on time... 😰 Things got tangled up with RL work, but now I'm here for the last day, at least.

At least I'll be able to contribute in a marathon-like fashion.

For the 2nd and 3rd prompts, I fused them together to envision a family trip for Hank & Connor ^^ So they'd be at a summer house, star-gazing. Hank indulges Connor and listens to him talk on and on about constellations, but really, he's just happy to see his adoptive son ramble happily :3

this took forever to finish for no reason guys I forgot how to pixel art (as if I knew how in the first place ghfhfhfu) I'm so tired I can't wait to pass out. but anyway yeah I still tried for @dbh-found-family's Detroit: Become Family event which is quickly coming to an end with the end of May

Prompts 8 & 9: Never and Always

so for this prompt I had the idea where one of them would be doing something the other doesn't like (one says never do something and the other says to always do it...or something?) which is such a basic idea I honestly have no idea how I ended up making anything out of it but here we are. Connor is ofc not approving of that burger Hank's way too happy to eat and that's the entire image there's no deeper meaning or anything to speak of I'm afraid

equally shallow, I made a reversed drawing kinda where Connor's eating something Hank doesn't approve of and yeah that's a dead android in the background there next to the ugly chair and old person wallpaper aka my sad attempt at making interesting backgrounds 👌

these probably don't really fit the prompts too well but idk this is what I came up with so

today for @dbh-found-family's Detroit: Become Family event I decided to first of all actually fill a prompt (sorry I keep skipping ://) and second actually post something. naturally with such high personally set requirements I came up with this which unfortunately showcases the inverse relationship between effort and personal likeability of my stuff

Prompt 7: Confidence

for this I was originally gonna have both Hank and Connor getting ready to go to work and really looking the part but the tiny mirror made fitting more than one person in awkward and it somehow became this, thus further proving that the less effort I put into something the more I like it (to some extend)

I'm way busier than I thought I'd be (and now Mermay exists and that's giving me more ideas I don't have time to create uh oh) but I did whip up a sketch for @dbh-found-family's Detroit: Become Family event and idk I'm no good at drawing dogs really but an attempt was made

Prompt 5: Calm

I was originally gonna do a thing with Sumo just sitting calmly in Connor's lap or possibly getting brushed because Saint Bernards shed like crazy but we all know Connor is living his best life when he's being smothered by a giant dog that probably weighs more than he does, and Hank's happiest just watching it all happen. not calm by definition but relaxing for them after a long day at work no doubt. I will admit that there was a thought about having yellow around Sumo something something personified sunshine but yeah idk where I was going with that

Google was shockingly vague with Saint Bernard sizes in comparison to that of a human and I'm using that as the source of blame for my nonexistent proportion management skills (this time)
