Sevens, Episode 1
First episode of a TV Series idea I had. Enjoy, criticism welcome!
START OF ACT #1
Int. Warehouse
Fade into an empty, dimly-lit warehouse. The floor is filled with tech of all kinds, both in boxes and in pieces scattered all around. The camera pans over this tech.
The warehouse door opens. Light floods the room.
Raxton
(offscreen)
You'd better have a damn good reason for me to be here, Doc.
Two men-one in a high-class business suit, one in a labcoat-walk into the warehouse. The man in the suit has a pin with an infinity symbol on it, as does the other man. Underneath the symbol are the words "Alistair Raxton, Owner" for the suited man, and "Dr. James Sinder, R&D", for the coated man.
Dr. Sinder
Now, Mr. Raxton, you know I wouldn't have woken you up so early if I didn't have one.
The two walk to the end of the walkway as the warehouse lights turn on with each step forward they take. The door can be heard closing in the background.
DR. SINDER
We've finished.
RAXTON
So it's done? You sure?
Dr. SINDER
Positive. I apologize for the delay in production, but things...didn't work as planned in our other prototypes.
RAXTON
You told me they were operational.
DR. SINDER
In a sense. They do work, but certain conditions prevented them from following your exact requests.
Raxton pauses as Sinder walks on, glancing at what looks like a simple Rubik's cube. He picks it up and starts twisting it around.
DR. SINDER
(offscreen)
Rest assured, however, that the final model is more than capable of both exceeding your expectations and making back the production costs. The others will be destroyed in due time, as per your request.
Sinder looks back as he walks.
DR. SINDER
And don't touch, that, please, it's primed to explode two seconds after it's completed.
Raxton drops the cube in a heartbeat and rushes back to where Sinder is.
RAXTON
It's a stupid toy, anyway.
The two soon reach the end of the hallway.
DR. SINDER
Well...here we are.
RAXTON
And you're sure it works?
DR. SINDER
It passed through all of QA without a single complaint. Your client will be very pleased with it.
RAXTON
Good, good. And no one else knows about it?
DR. SINDER
Everyone who worked on the project was...
(pause)
...taken care of. Again, as you asked.
Raxton places a hand in his suit, seemingly fishing for something.
RAXTON
But, Doc, I'm seeing a bit of an issue here...if everyone was taken care of...
Raxto stops rifling in his pockets, flashing a grin to Sinder.
RAXTON
...wouldn't that include you, too?
Sinder backs up, slowly, as Raxton pulls a pen and a check.
DR. SINDER
Well, yes, but...
RAXTON
That's a bit of a conundrum, ain't it?
Raxton writes on the check.
RAXTON
Are you much of a gambling man, Doc?
Sinder shakes his head. Raxton tilts his.
RAXTON
Really? I mean, I shouldn't be surprised-you've been working for me all this time, and you never ONCE went onto the floor. I even gave you that pass.
Raxton walks closer to Sinder, who is taking even smaller steps back.
RAXTON
You wouldn't have lost a dime. Or earned one, but still. No risk. No reward. We're gonna change that.
Raxton holds up the check in one hand, backside to Sinder.
RAXTON
Let's play a little game. I have, in my hand, a check with your pay for this project on t. If you can tell me what the amount on the check is, using that big brain of your's, you get to leave scot-free.
DR. SINDER
You have no right to do this.
RAXTON
If you don't, well...you'll be seeing your crew pretty soon. Well, maybe not. They're probably all-
Raxton point upwards.
RAXTON
Y'know. While you're gonna end up-
He points downwards.
RAXTON
Y'know. So go ahead...
Raxton puts the index finger and thumb of both of his hands on each side of the check and holds it in front of Sinder.
RAXTON
Test your luck.
Sinder looks from Raxton, to the check, and back again.
Dr. SINDER
I-well-the parts cost about $2537 to buy, the development costs were around $5000, the...the, um...
RAXTON
Ten seconds. Nine. Eight. Seven.
DR. SINDER
$13, 406.73! It's-it cost exactly that much. And that is the exact amount on that check.
Raxton backs up, reaching into his suit again.
RAXTON
Man, oh man, that's good. You really calculated all that in your head, right down to the last cent.. Doc, you're a genius. Some kinda savant, even.
Raxton pulls out a gun.
RAXTON
But you're still an idiot.
Dr. SINDER
(backing up really fast)
I'm right! I know I am!
RAXTON
Doc. It's $0. Dead men don't need checks.
Sinder makes a run for the door. Raxton shoots the doctor in the back until the trigger goes "click." We see the bottom half of Sinder's body, blood seeping through the labcoat and onto the floor. Raxton pulls out a cell phone. He dials and puts the phone to his ear, still holding the gun.
RAXTON
Hey, Chris. Can we get a clean-up crew down here before lunch? I got reservations at some Cheu de whatever place, and I really don't wanna be late. Yeah. They got those really nice shrimp...
As he chats offhandedly with the guy on the phone, the camera moves past him to show what the two were seeing earlier-a slot machine, with a very fine metal sheen to it and triple sevens on the display.
Cut to opening.
EXT. CASINO
We fade into the outside of a casino, the Royal Knight. A title appears on the screen: "Three months later."
The theme of the whole place appears to be England in the days of King Arthur. Business seems bustling. The camera follows a random patron into
Int. The CASINO
a lush, vibrant place that looks like the inside of an English castle if it were designed by Salvador Dali. The camera bounces from patron to patron, game to game, before finally settling on a man at a slot machine. He wears an old duster jacket, a dress shirt, black slacks, and fancy shoes, and has a baseball cap that reads "Jukebox Hero". He pulls on the slot machine's lever. The slots spin, landing on "7", "7", and a cherry.
Jack
DAMMIT!
The man raises his fist at the machine. The cherry turns to a 7.
JACK
...hey, there we go.
A ticket slides out of the machine. The man snatches it and swivels on his chair. He hops out and makes a beeline for a cash-in station. He slams the ticket down on the counter.
JACK
Mary, I-
The clerk snatches the ticket before he can finish.
Mary
-"hit the jackpot, can you believe it? It's like, what, the fifth time this week?"
JACK
Sixth, actually.
MARY
How long is the cash gonna last this time, Jack?
JACK
Long enough to give a round of beers-
(Louder)
TO EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM, HOW'S THAT SOUND?
The surrounding gamblers hoot and cheer. Mary brings out rubber-banded wads of cash.
MARY
You know, there's this really interesting thing they invented a few centuries back. It's called "a savings account."
Jack
Yeah, sure, whatever.
As he grabs his winnings, a thug-looking guy walks up to the counter.
Thug
Yeah, uh, I don't got no ticket, but I want what he's got. Give it to me, toots.
Mary looks to Jack. Jack glances back.
Mary
Sure. I'll give it to ya.
Mary proceeds to grab the thug by the collar, hurl him over the counter, and onto his back, much to the whoops and cheers of the rest of the people in the room. Mary leans over him.
MARY
You're new around here, aren't ya?
As the crowd cheers, Jack takes his money to the bar. He starts ordering different kinds of drinks and directing them at random tables. People come up to him, patting him on the back and chatting him up. He takes a drink in his hand.
JACK
Man, life is GOOD!
Crossfade to Jack sitting in
Int. Apartment
A studio apartment on a beanbag chair.
JACK
...yeah. Life's just grand.
He glances over at a table. Out of the money he got from the slots, only $100 seems to be left. He gets up from the chair and goes to the table, snatching up the cash. He spies four quarters underneath the bill and a basket of laundry to the side.
JACK
...eh, might as well.
He pockets the bill, grabs the quarters, grabs the handles of the basket and walks to the door. He opens it and exits the apartment, entering a
Int. STAIRWELL
Which he travels down to reach a
Int. Laundromat
He enters the laundromat, walking to the end of one of the aisles and placing the basket on top of a washing machine. He hears music playing over the crackling loudspeakers-"Do The Donkey Kong"-and looks at his quarters.
JACK
...that's a blast from the past.
He flashes back to an-
INT. ARCADE
-and we see a Teenaged Jack playing an arcade cabinet. We see people crowding around him as he fights off some kind of alien horde as the same song plays. He wins, he loses, he wins again, he loses again. Slowly, the crowd thins out until he's the only one left.
We flash forward to an-
Int. Older Casino
-that Jack had frequented in the past. We see him doing really well at the slot machine, buying drinks and food for people. The whole crowd loves him. Then, he starts losing. Again, and again. The crowd around him fades away. Leaving him alone, and with $100 in his hand.
We cut back to the-
INT. LAUNDROMAT
-as he comes back to reality. He shakes his head and opens up the machine, tossing in a detergent pod and his clothes before closing it up. He takes out the bill from his pocket and stares at it.
JACK
...I'm gonna make this one count.
Crossfade to
Int. Casino
Where we still see Jack's hand, but now with one casino token left in his hand. Jack grimaces, clenching his fist tight. He stands up and we focus on his feet. We see all the beer bottles around him as he gets up. He stumbles away from the bar, and passes by Mary walking past.
JACK
I'm-I'm gonna hit the-the jillpan or-I-I need a drink.
Mary
Jack, you need to go home.
JACK
Not until I finish what I came here to-
He hiccups and falls to the floor. The token rolls away as he hits the ground, and Jack scrambles up after it, keeping somewhat at floor level as he trails the token. The token rolls past a pillar and Jack follows. The token soon slows and lands at someone's feet. Jack slides forward, like a football player trying to catch a game-winning ball, and lands at the feet himself. He look up.
RAXTON
Can I help you?
JACK
Yeah-
(hiccup)
-you can move a little to the left so I can get this-
Jack suddenly looks extremely ill. We cut to Raxton's face as we hear horrible belching sounds. It's pretty clear, as we cut to and from other people in the room looking horrified, that Jack has just puked.
RAXTON
Jesus Christ!
Int. Raxton's office
We hear shouting outside of a big office, filled with casino memorabilia and the like.
RAXTON
(offscreen)
No, you idiots, don't put him in there!
Thug
(offscreen)
But boss, it's the only open room!
RAXTON
(offscreen)
It's MY open room and I'm not letting a sick drunk puke all over my couch!
JACK
(offscreen)
(making burping sounds)
RAXTON
(offscreen)
Oh, for the love of-ok, fine!
The door flings open and Jack is hurled into the room, landing roughly against the mahogany desk. Raxton sticks his head in through the door.
RAXTON
I'm getting the cops in here, so hold tight. And remember-you vomit on ANYTHING, you buy it! And replace it!
Raxton slams the door shut. We hear him issuing orders-"don't let anyone in or out of this room"-to his thugs as Jack wobbles up. Jack grouses-
JACK
I said it was an acci-accedu-I said I was sorry.
He glances around the room. It's full of expensive items, knick-knacks and do-dads, most of which have absolutely no obvious purpose whatsoever. They look nice, though.
JACK
...Swanky.
Jack turns around and spots something behind Raxton's desk. It is the slot machine from the first scene. Jack stumbles around the desk to get a closer look. At first glance, it's very retro. It looks almost like a jukebox, with a rounded top, red and black coloring all around, a shiny screen that betrays the faded symbols on the three slots, and what looks like a very gaudy sound system underneath the screen. A lever is attached to the side, there are buttons underneath each reel and it has a coin slot right next to the third slot. Jack looks around, making sure no one is sneaking up on him. He shrugs.
JACK
...Let's have one last game.
Jack takes out the token that got him into this mess and-after a bit of sentimental twirling of the token in his hand-places it into the machine. The machine whirs to life, the slots spinning at an incredibly high speed. Jack grins. We cut to the thugs guarding the door, one of whom raises an eyebrow.
Thug
The hell?
Jack pulls down on the lever and presses the buttons as the reels spin. The slot machine lands on triple Sevens.
JACK
Jackpot!
The machine then starts to spark and sizzle.
JACK
...uh oh.
Jack backs up from the machine as it shakes, rattles, and finally...explodes. A huge cloud of smoke comes from the spot of the explosion and engulfs Jack. There's a small metallic sheen that surges through the smoke to where Jack was standing.
JACK
HOLY FU-
Two thugs burst in through the door, guns drawn.
ThUG 1
OK, what the hell is going on...in...
The smoke clears. In Jack's place stands a metallic, armored figure. The first thing the thugs see is red on black, sleek lines running up the figure as the camera pans upwards. The camera pauses on various points-the belt with a slot lever attached to it, the chestplate that appears to be the exact same screen as on the "jukebox", complete with a coin slot, and a mask that appears to have jagged "teeth" on its faceplate, and a stylized "7" on the forehead. The figure turns its head towards the thugs. The thugs take a step back, and place their fingers on the triggers.
JACK
...this...isn't what it looks like?
Cut to commercial.
END OF ACT #1
START OF ACT #2
INT. CASINO BAR
Two men sit at the bar, chatting.
Bar patron 1
You know what I watched the other day?
Bar Patron 2
What?
BaR PATRON 1
The Rocketeer.
BAR PATRON 2
Never heard of it.
BAR PATRON 1
You know, Disney flick, guy with a jetpack fights Nazis?
Bar PATRON 2
Still never heard of it.
BAR PATRON 1
C'mon, he's got this big, goofy helmet like-
Jack runs past, the two patrons staring at him as he bolts.
BAR PATRON 1
-...that, for instance.
Jack is quickly followed by the thugs from before, who open fire, sending the casino patrons into a panic as they scramble to dodge the gunfire. Jack dodges the bullets and slides around and under the tables by the bar.
JACK
STOP SHOOTING, PLEASE!
He crashes into one of the tables and ends up somersaulting over it, tumbling until he slows to a stop right in front of a slot machine. The two thugs stand over him, aiming their guns right at his face.
JACK
Wh-whoa, wait a minute, I said it was an accident! I didn't mean to-I never wanted this to happen! You believe me, right?
THUG 1
Yeah, course we do!
THUG 2
All we need is for you to get out of that get up.
JACK
Then why were you shooting at me?!
THUG 1
Cause you ran!
JACK
When you pointed your guns at me!
THUG 2
Details, details.
Jack tries to take the helmet off-no luck. He tries pulling off the main part of the suit-still, no luck.
JACK
I-I promise, I'm gonna get this stupid thing-
He flails about, trying to get the suit off, and ends up hitting the slot machine. A cup of tokens on top of it fall over, and as the coins fall, one lands in the suit's "coin slot." Jack's stumbling also causes the lever to be pushed down, quickly recoiling back upwards.
Suddenly, the slots start spinning, and the thugs immediately resteady their aim at Jack.
JACK
No, wait, I didn't-
Jack quickly rolls out of the way as the thugs fire, scrambling to his feet. He looks at the spinning slots and the lever that put the suit on his body. He quickly notices three buttons underneath the slots. He grimaces-
JACK
Well, fortune favors the bold!
-and mashes all three buttons at once. They come to a stop, cherry symbols on the screen.
Suit
Cherry!
The suit begins changing color, even shape, as it slowly molds into something resembling armor, designed like a cherry with the image of one quickly replacing the "7" on Jack's head. The thugs-and Jack-stare at the suit in confusion.
JACK
...ok.
Thug 1 tries to fire, but the gun just clicks. He scowls and tosses away the gun, balling up his fist and swinging it at Jack. Jack holds his hands up to block the punch, and a cherry-shaped forcefield extends from them. The thug's fist bounces off the forcefield as he shouts in pain. Thug 2 raises his gun and fires, and as Jack holds his hands out again, the cherry forcefield bursts out and hits the thug, sending him toppling to the ground. Jack looks at his hands in amazement.
JACK
...ok!
Jack fires out one forcefield after another at the thugs, forcing them further and further back as he looks around the slot machines. He spots a cup full of tokens and grabs them, dropping the forcefield as he runs away with it. The thugs chase him out into the
INT. PARKING LOT OF THE CASINO
Jack grabs another token and slides it into the slot. He mashes the buttons as the reels spin, and this time, they land on three bells.
SUIT
Bell!
The suit changes design again, this time with more yellow and white, and a bell appears on the forehead of the suit in place of the cherry.
As Jack runs ahead, he spots a black car speeding towards his location. He waves at it.
JACK
Hey! Hey, help me out here! I'm being chased by these-
The car accelerates, speeding right towards Jack.
JACK
-maniacs! You're all maniacs!
Jack turns to run as the car barrels down at him. Right as he is about to get hit, the bell on his forehead rings. Jack suddenly appears behind the car, causing him to stumble and look around to get a vantage point. The car swerves back to try to hit him again. Again, as the car is about to hit him, Jack appears a safe distance away as the bell on his forehead rings. Jack quickly "bells" away, leaving the parking lot behind as Raxton exits the car, watching him until he's fully out of sight. Police cars surround the casino behind Raxton, who just keeps staring.
Int. Nevada desert
A blip keeps moving across the desert with a constant sound of a bell ringing. We see Jack, hopping through the desert sands as he frantically tries to hold onto the bell on his forehead, presumably to keep it from ringing, interspersed with bell sounds.
JACK
OK-YOU-CAN-STOP-DOING-THAT-NOW-PLEASE-I'M-TRYING-TO-NOT-GET-STUCK-IN-THE-MIDDLE-OF-THE-
The bell sound stops and Jack faceplants into the ground.
JACK
(muffled)
Desert.
Jack stays put for a moment. Then, he slowly pushes himself up. As he does so, the suit recedes, leaving only a lever folded against Jack's side, and a belt with a coin slot on his waist. Jack stares at it.
JACK
What the hell are you?
He glances at the hand he held the cup in. Miraculously, none of the tokens are missing. He shakes the cup a bit.
JACK
Looks like I'll be holding onto you for a while.
Jack starts walking ahead, looking around.
JACK
Road, road, where did you go...
He pauses, spotting lights shining behind a nearby rock ridge. He rushes over and climbs up. He peers over the ridge and spots the same black car he saw earlier, but multiplied by five. There's more thugs and what seem to be-
JACK
Police?
One officer holds up a megaphone, turning it on with a slight tinge of static as he brings it up.
Officer 1
Alright, Mr. Raxton wants a full sweep of the area! No one goes home until we find our guy!
A second officer is directing the thugs.
Officer 2
The sound stopped not too far from here, so half of you go that way-
He points towards the distance.
OFFICER 2
-and half of you-
Jack ducks behind the rocks, sliding slightly as he removes his hands but grabbing a steady set of rocks to keep behind.
Officer 2 points to the rock ridge.
OFFICER 2
-go search that way! Don't leave any stone unturned!
The thugs march off in their different directions. Jack quickly scurries down the ridge and hides to the side the thugs aren't coming from. He peeks around the corner and sees the officers talking. They don't take notice of him. Jack looks around, trying to find some better hiding spot.
JACK
C'mon, c'mon...there's gotta be-
He spots a roadside trailer/diner nearby.
JACK
...that's convenient.
Int. Dingy diner
Jack walks into the diner, looking around. There's a few people at the bar, and they're all focused on their food. There are at least two television sets by the bar, tuned to a sports channel. Jack takes a seat at a booth. A waitress walks up to him. She glances at his token cup before looking back at him.
Waitress
Welcome to the High and Dry, the airiest diner in all of Nevada. Can I interest you in our Sandstorm Special tonight?
JACK
Whiskey. Please.
The waitress nods and walks off as Jack stares off for a moment before he places the cup of tokens on the table. his head in his hands.
JACK
Ok...ok. Let's try to figure this out. I'm sure there's a rational explanation for what's going on.
Jack moves his hands away and starts counting on his fingers.
JACK
First, I got drunk. Then, I got tossed into that office. Then I played that slot machine...
He pauses.
JACK
...and I turned into a Power Ranger.
Jack lets his head hit the table.
JACK
I'm gonna need the whole bottle.
Newscaster
(voiceover)
In other news, the fugitive that wreaked havoc at Royal Knight is still at large.
Jack looks up at the screen, which is showing footage of his escape from the casino.
NEWSCASTER
(voiceover)
The fugitive has not yet been identified and his current whereabouts are unknown. Alistair Raxton, owner of Royal Knight, has released no comment as to the nature of this-
The report is interrupted by static and the bar patrons murmur questions and comments. Jack puts his head in his hands again.
JACK
Two bottles.
The waitress approaches with the whiskey. He grabs it and is about to down it. However, the door to the diner opens and the officers from earlier enter. Jack quickly stops his drink and hides his face from their line of sight. One of them goes up to the waitress.
OffICER 1
Excuse me, ma'am-have you seen this man around here recently?
He holds up a closed circuit camera photo of Jack in Raxton's office. Jack starts looking around, spotting a nearby exit. He places down money for the whiskey, grabbing the bottle and stashing it in his jacket as the waitress talks with the officers.
WAITRESS
...so, wait, what'd he do again?
OfFICER 2
It doesn't MATTER what he did, it matters that he's on the loose and he's very dangerous. Now, where is he?
Jack grabs the cup of tokens. He slides out of the booth-grabbing pocket change and gently dropping it on the table-and starts backstepping out of the diner, keeping his gaze low but his eyes on the officers.
WAITRESS
(offscreen)
Actually...
The waitress puts a hand on her chin. Behind her, Jack has reached the door and is starting to sneak out of it.
WAITRESS
I think he just got here a minute ago. Lemme check-
She turns and both her and the officers see him halfway through the door. Jack freezes in place. The officers pull out their guns. Jack carefully pulls out the whiskey bottle.
JACK
Can I, uh...interest you fine officers in a friendly drink?
Cut to commercial.
END OF ACT #2
START OF ACT #3
EXT. DINGY DINER
Jack bolts out the door as the officers fire at him. He is holding the whiskey bottle in one hand. He grabs a token out of the cup as he dodges bullets. He is about to put it into the slot, but hesitates when he sees the patrons of the diner watching the shootout. He spies the police car-with the keys still in the ignition. He rushes to and hops inside the car, putting the whiskey in the passenger seat. Officer 2 is closer by and tries to stop him from turning the car on, but Jack turns the key and floors it as soon as the car starts up. As Jack speeds off, Officer 1 comes up behind Officer 2.
OffICER 1
Why the hell did you leave the keys in there?!
OfFICER 2
I didn't!
The two start arguing as a shadowy figure darts across the camera.
EXT. NEVADA DESERT
Jack drives along the desert. He looks at the police radio and turns it on.
Police radio
-all cars be on the lookout. Do not drive the official; we can single him out that way. Repeat, do not-
Jack flips it off. He looks at his token cup. The chaos at the diner left him with five tokens. He looks back ahead of the road.
JACK
Well. Least I've finally got some time to mys-
There's a loud "vroom" sound.
JACK
'course I don't.
He presses his foot down on the pedal more as something approaches the car very quickly. Jack looks in his side mirror-it's a motorcycle, with a masked rider on it. There appears to be a weapon attached to the side, as well as a gun in the rider's left holster.
In an instant, the rider is next to the car. The rider slams into the side, causing Jack to slide in the seat slightly. Again, the rider slams. Jack tries to swerve the car right back, but the rider pulls back, causing the car to skid to the side before righting itself. The rider comes up to the other side and slams back into the car. Jack grips the steering.
JACK
Buddy, you're really starting to piss me-
As he talks, he swerves the car towards the rider, who dodges even faster this time, causing the car to spin out. Jack unbuckles and jumps out, rolling as the car spins away and crashes into a nearby rockface. The whiskey bottle bounces out of the car, cracking in two as it hits the ground, spilling drink everywhere.
Jack wearily pushes himself up as the rider slows to a stop behind him. Jack holds up his hands, not looking behind him yet.
JACK
Whoa, look, I don't want any trouble, so just hold on one goddamned second and-
MARY
Jack. What're you doing?
Jack turns around.
JACK
...Mary?
MARY
You couldn't just leave well enough alone.
Mary removes the helmet, holding it under her arm.
MARY
And now look what's happened. You've really hit the jackpot this time.
Jack backs up.
JACK
Mary-Mary, what's going on? I-I thought-shouldn't you be working the-why did you try to spin me out?!
MARY
Didn't try.
JACK
Wait, I'm confused, are you saying you didn't try to just run me off the road just now?
MARY
No. I'm just saying I didn't need to try. Pretty easy, actually.
Mary drops the helmet and reaches for her side holster. She draws a pistol.
MARY
And now I've gotta work overtime.
Jack backs up more, stumbling to the ground.
JACK
Mary, wait! Did the cops put you up to this? Did they try to make y-
MARY
Shut up.
She walks over, kneels, and points the gun at his head as he's on the ground, close enough that Jack can nearly feel the coolness of the gun's metal.
MARY
I have been listening to you prattle on and on about how "this time it's the big one!" and what you're gonna do with your "hard earned cash" and blah blah blah. And I had to put a stupid little smile on my face and pretend I gave a damn. But now, there's no way in hell I'm going to let this chance slide. I'm even getting paid extra for this! But..that also means I've got to put in the extra effort to make sure the job's done right.
As she talks, Jack spots the tokens nearby, scattered on the ground. One is right by his right hand, just barely in reach. He also notices the top half of the broken whiskey bottle to his other side, at about the same amount of distance.
JACK
C-c'mon, Mary, you can't kill me-you didn't even cock the gun!
Mary looks at the gun.
MARY
Really? Must've forgotten. Thanks for the reminder!
She cocks it without taking her eyes off of Jack's face. Both of Jack's hands have reached their targets.
JACK
Shoulda thought that one through.
MARY
C'mon, Jack. Those're your last words?
Jack shakes his head.
JACK
No, but those're probably your's.
Jack swings the whiskey bottle across Mary's face, causing her to recoil in pain, stumbling back. A deep gash is left where the bottle made contact.
MARY
(screams)
Jack then grabs the token and swiftly slides it into the coin slot. He pulls the lever and mashes the buttons just as the reels start to spin. A blinding flash of light erupts from Jack's chest, causing Mary to cover her eyes. We see the suit form around Jack, as a voice cries out-
Suit
Jackpot! One, two, three, four, five, six, Sevens!
As the suit reaches "Sevens", the 7 appears on Jack's forehead as he is fully suited up and ready to go.
JACK
...well, it didn't do that before.
Mary points her gun at Jack and starts firing. Jack runs out of the way of the bullets, lowering slightly to grab the remainder of the tokens. As Mary reloads her gun-and moves closer to him-he places three tokens in the slot.
JACK
Time to up the stakes!
He pulls the lever and presses the buttons as Mary finishes reloading and fires. A giant black bar-with the word BAR written on there-appears in front of Jack, blocking the bullets. The bar appears to be about as thick as a large block of concrete. Jack looks down. The slots now show a bar in each reel.
SuIT
BAR!
Jack immediately rushes ahead with the bar, forcing Mary back as he pushes the bar in front of her. He pulls back and rushes forward, using the bar as a battering ram that knocks Mary to the ground. Mary responds by kicking upwards in the space between Jack and the bar, causing Jack to let go of the bar and grunt in pain. Mary takes the opportunity and begins whaling on Jack, punching and kicking, giving no quarter as Jack stumbles backwards in pain.
Jack manages to reach his arm around enough to grab the arm Mary is firing. He pulls her forward, headbutting her as she comes closer. Mary cries out in pain and stops her attack, stumbling backwards. She drops her gun, and Jack kicks it away.
JACK
I've had just about enough of people trying to kill me for one day!
Jack grips the lever. He has one token remaining in his hand, which he slides into the slot. The reels spin.
JACK
And I've had just about enough of you!
He pulls the lever and presses the buttons. A triple seven appears on the reels.
SuIT
SEVENS! FINISHER!
The coin tray on the suit begins to rumble and shake. Mary gets onto her feet and starts running away.
JACK
Yeah, you'd better r-
A swarm of tokens fly out and crash into Mary, who mutters-
MARY
Oh no.
-before they start pushing her forward and sending her off into the distance.
Simultaneously, the recoil sends Jack hurtling back into the crashed car, leaving him sprawled over the seat as the tray refills with the amount of coins he had used over the course of the battle. He swipes them out of the tray as the suit disappears, leaving only the belt. Jack looks at the belt, then off in the distance. He glances at the motorcycle Mary left behind and stumbles out of the car and over to it. During this, we hear narration.
JACK
(v.o.)
So, to recap. Today, I got stuck to a belt that gives me superpowers, became a fugitive from the law, and had to fight off a deranged ex-friend who turned out to be an assassin.
He pauses to pick up the helmet, putting it on his head to see if it fits. It does. He gets on the bike and starts it up.
JACK
(v.o.)
Least it can't get any worse, right?
Jack drives off into the distance.
JACK
(v.o.)
Probably shouldn't have thought that.
Cut to-
Int. RaxTON'S OFFICE
Raxton is sitting at his desk, rapping his fingers on it as he looks at a walkie talkie perched on the desk. The talkie crackles to life.
Mary
(v.o. through talkie static)
-r. Raxton, come in. Over. Al, pick up, dammit!
Raxton picks up the talkie and answers.
RAXTON
This is Raxton. Do you have the belt? Over.
MarY
(v.o. through talkie static)
No, I don't. I just got sent halfway through the Mojave because of YOUR stupid science experiment. What the hell's going on, Al? You told me this would be easy! Over!
Raxton doesn't answer, opting to get up and open a window in his office.
MARY
(v.o. through talkie static)
Al, do you copy?
Raxton proceeds to drop the talkie out the window. We hear Mary calling for Raxton for a brief moment before hearing the sound of shattering plastic as Raxton peers out the window.
RAXTON
Well, that could have gone better.
He backs up and closes the window.
RAXTON
You know, you think you know a person, and then they just...screw up royal!
He laughs, looking over his shoulder.
RAXTON
Get it? Royal? Like-like the name of the-ah, doesn't matter.
Raxton walks past his desk and in front of it, where we now can see a new figure in the room, facing Raxton with their backside to the screen.
RAXTON
Looks like our little thief is pretty lucky.
Raxton leans back on his desk, his hands gripping it.
RAXTON
And it also looks like he got away with something very, very valuable.
Close up on his hands, gripping the desk hard. He quickly lets go, and we move back to the shot from before and see Raxton reddening in the face, breathing slowly.
RAXTON
Mary wasn't up to the task. What makes you any better?
The camera swivels to show the reverse of the last shot, with Raxton's back to the camera, and the figure-a cowboy looking sort of man-absentmindedly twirling a card in his hand.
Spades
Well, he may have the luck of the spin...
The man stops twirling the card. We see what it is-an Ace of Spades. Close up on his card arm-which is currently covered in a jacket sleeve. He pulls the sleeve back, showing what looks like an armband deck holder.
SPADES
(v.o.)
...but I've got the luck of the draw.
End episode.
