Suzy couldn’t quite comprehend why she had agreed to this meeting. The level of skepticism that ran through her head was high. Then again, anything that Daehyun did triggered this sort of feeling, so what was new, really? She should have just said no, but her curiosity got the best of her. What if his ideas weren’t as crazy as she typically thought they were? What if something actually good came out of this? Despite being almost one hundred percent certain that the answer to both those questions was a big fat no, she still found her legs carrying herself en route to meet her supposed “potential boyfriend”, as he was introduced.
She was starting to wonder if she should have asked one of the drivers to bring her to her destination. The humidity was starting to make her question her decision to actually take the subway and walk to their designated meeting place. Plus, wearing this face mask was not helping at all. However, she knew that wouldn’t have been an option. Somehow, fans would find out that she was in the van and somehow put pieces together that she was meeting another male idol. The rumor mill would run faster than she could say her own name.
These were days when she wished she weren’t known to the world as Miss A’s Suzy. No doubt she stuck out like a sore thumb on the subway, dressed in a pretty floral dress contrasted with a snapback and face mask to keep her face shielded from the public. If anything, people were probably laughing at this female girl who lacked fashion sense. As long as it kept their hands and words out of her face, she didn’t even care.
She took a glance at her watch, her brain scattered as to their meeting time. Was it 2:00? 2:15? 2:30? She didn’t think that they would have agreed at an odd time such as 2:15, but well, if it were 2:00, she was definitely late. She silently prayed that they said 2:30 and that she was running ahead of schedule. Bae Suji was never one to be late, and surely, she had told herself to leave at the time she did because she knew it would get her there in time. If anything, she hoped that he was running late so she would have a few minutes to gather herself before his arrival.
As she turned the corner, she noticed a man with his back facing her. Oh shoot, was he already here? she thought to herself. Swiftly, she moved over to the male and tapped him on the shoulder. However, as he turned around, she realized that he wasn’t the one she was looking for. Thank goodness she still had her mask and snapback on. She bowed her head in apology before moving away. The heat rose to her cheeks as she looked around. Maybe she was early.
No such luck. A glance in front of her revealed the man that she was supposed to be meeting with. Not wanting to attract attention, she didn’t call out his name and instead, walked up to him with a smile. Suddenly, she realized her smile was still covered under her face mask so she quickly took it off. “Hi,” her voice was soft and gentle, though she hoped it was loud enough that he actually heard her. “I, uh, believe we’re ….” Oh gosh, why was she being so awkward? “I’m Suzy,” she smiled, extending out a hand at the male as she inhaled for a quick second, hoping that he wasn’t already frightened by her presence.
Yongguk actually studied the time. He watched as each second ticked on turning into minutes but hopefully not hours. He would’ve looked strange, like a loser if that had happened. Though still slightly hesitant, he had somewhat calmed down by now. It was a little past the time they were supposed to have met up but he assumed it was a schedule that had her caught up. She was an idol, wasn’t she? At least according to Daehyun… He wondered briefly what would happen if they did start dating – if that was the case, exactly how well would the media take it? As much as he loved his fans, there were some highly accusing ones, immature perhaps, that made him sweat just thinking about it. He had enough to deal with on his plate, he really didn’t need anything to add to that.
But that irritating voice at the back of his that sounded strangely similar to Daehyun’s nagged what a wonderful experience it would be to actually date someone. Yongguk was around five other guys about 90% of his life right now and as much as he appreciated them, they were pretty useless in helping him with his love life. Such was the life of an idol, he supposed, and while it came with many positive perks, it also came with a pack full of negative ones. He really needed to get a personal life, or as personal as it could possibly get with screaming fangirls lurking behind the back of his mind.
Paparazzi would probably be his biggest concern should he meet up with this… mysterious woman, friend of Dae’s. Somehow media had the power to warp all possibilities of a friendship into a romantic relationship (and yes, that was the point of their entire meeting, but Yongguk wanted to take it slow, not be exposed in essentially twelve hours from now) and that really did not sit well with him. He craned his neck, lips pursing to the side as he checked his watch for the time again. It was getting late – not late-late, of course – late as in she was… late. Just as he was about to fish his phone out to text Daehyun to see what had come up or if anything had been changed, a gentle voice pulled him out of his train of thought.
Yongguk couldn’t have actually seemed any less awkward than Suji because suddenly seeing her face startled his entire body, in other words, he wasn’t really ready. But still, she looked pretty in her floral dress and the petite form that only a woman could have relaxed his senses. It was a weird wonder, how the presence of a woman could settle him so. He supposed that was a good thing and thankfully, he was feeling a lot better. Yes, it was still awkward because he was an awkward turtle around… women, but it was also a good kind of awkward because for once, Yongguk had a good feeling about this.
He grinned, his warm gummy smile welcoming the female as he extended his own hand to grasp the offered one in a handshake. “Suzy? As in Miss A’s Suzy? It’s an honour to meet you, Suzy-ssi?” Or should he cut the honorifics? But would that be weird? Probably. They’d only met just now despite passing one another during broadcasts and music shows. “I’m Yongguk, Daehyun’s babysitter—” Yeah, that was kind of weird… and awkward now that he thought about it but everything about this situation just seemed awkward. Eh, he assumed it would get better, this atmosphere, since he did truly appreciate her presence.

Yongguk couldn’t tell if he was genuinely happy that his dongsaeng cared so much or visibly annoyed over how much of a pest Daehyun was. The people that walked by, minding their own business looked so happy to be lost in their own thoughts yet Yongguk was the one person that did not. His thoughts were jumbled up into a ball with indiscernible scribbles highlighting his mind with neon headlights, with laughing mouths and rude fingers and faceless faces pointing at him and laughing. He must’ve looked like an idiot. And awkward as hell, not to mention. He’d never done this before – being set up of course. Daehyun really was determined to get him a girlfriend and just had to poke his nose into his love life – or whatever remained of it that is. Chanhee did too, and maybe his kid brother from time to time but maybe that was all in his mind. It wouldn’t be the first time, anyway.
The man checked his watch for the time. 2:04 PM. It wasn’t even rush hour yet and he was already feeling the regret. There weren’t many people around him for him to feel awkwardly out of place and he was thankful that it wasn’t a busy hour yet he still felt smaller than usual. There was a first time for everything, but Yongguk couldn’t say he enjoyed what he was feeling at the moment. The longer it took for this person to show up, the more he felt uneasy. That being said, he was this close to texting his dongsaeng to tell him that he had changed his mind and was going to head home to work on some tunes.
But then he’d be the worst kind of man – standing up a potentially nice woman all because he was too chicken to face reality. A sigh escaped his lips as he glanced at the time once again. There were only a few minutes left before this mysterious woman showed up. He leaned back against the fountain with hesitant eyes roaming around as if expecting her to pop out of nowhere. He really should calm down, shouldn’t he? His palms were sweaty and felt like a cold shower had seemingly been dumped over his head. Honestly, he looked so jittery, people would’ve turned their heads at him if they weren’t busy minding their own affairs. And Yongguk was grateful towards them for doing so. It wasn’t every day an idol stood amongst the many cobblestones of Seoul, waiting for his date to arrive.
Not that it was a date, of course. Yongguk wouldn’t brand a first meeting a date when he barely knew anything about his companion. If they couldn’t work out, at least he had gained a new friend? That was fine by him and thank god that made him feel slightly more comfortable. He could do this. Yeah, he definitely could.
