☮ = waking them up after a nightmare .
HE CAN STILL REMEMBER VIVIDLY .
What had been a peaceful night that day was turned upside down in just a matter of minutes, when distortions start appearing above his Citadel, and Revisionists passing through the golden ring of light. One, two, and before he knew it, before he could do anything to minimize the damage, they’d been surrounded.
They fought, they withdrew, they fought once again, but the enemies were relentless. All four units spread within the Citadel’s vicinity, protecting those who couldn’t fight whether from their injuries or the fact that they were simply too weak to put up much of a fight, stamina drained from the prolonged fight. Of course, Kouki had put himself in the frontlines, along with his first unit. Strong, skillful, he thought nothing could go wrong. At the very least, they’d be able to escape in one piece.
It still haunts his dreams.
How they struggled, how they plead for him to flee, scolded him, yelled at him, but he refused to budge, for he had decided that if he’s going to meet his end, he’d rather do it along with everyone else. They fought, they fought, and they fought, but in the end, it was a futile resistance. One by one, they fell, his swords, his friends, his family. Final requests being for him to escape, please escape, they said. He could feel it, a part of his soul dying one by one. But he refused to give in, fighting through his tears.
Before dying, they reached towards him, words spoken, reaching his ears only faintly. What were they saying?
And Kouki finds himself staring at his dimly lit ceiling. Gone was the crackling of the fire eating away at the very foundation of his Citadel and the sounds of clashing swords, replaced with his heavy breathing the sound of his pounding heart, as well as someone else’s voice.
For a moment, it feels unreal. It feels as if this is the dream, this is how it could have been, and the sights from before were his reality, the time he’s currently going through. As if his mind is seeking a safe haven and deceiving itself, denying the happenings, refusing to accept everyone’s deaths. But slowly he comes to realize that it was all in the past. Something that had happened, that could not be rewritten. And this is his present. His current life.
His heart slows down, his breathing eases. Sweat rolls down his skin as he grips on his blanket, his skin still feels like it’s burning, but the sensation is distant. He’s slowly being pulled back into himself. Grey eyes attempt to focus at the person next to him. Yagen Toushirou -- why is he in his room? He seems to be worried, but of course. The Saniwa attempts to give the tantou a reassuring smile, to tell him that he’s alright, though with little success. Slightly trembling hand raises, patting the other on the head.
“ Sorry to have worried you . ”
