◭ katherine’s backstory.

the previous duke and duchess of the dawn court had solemnly sworn not to have children and to never continue their bloodline. other courts loved to rumor all about it, and they were nasty about it too, as a reason was never to be presented to anyone; a family’s secret. truth be told, their reason for it was a very old prediction of a child of the couple bringing damnaition to the dawn court, ending the cycle of resurrection after death for their people and sending all of her bloodline straight to hell. perhaps someone had simply tried to scare amaral newly wed couple of their happiness out of jealousy, but the loss of their love and dreams made them scared enough to believe it.

the birth of katherine was unexpected to say the least. esther amaral hadn’t known she had conceived until it was too late. the court called her a blessing, but the parents acted as though the world was going to end at her birth. the world didn’t end, and yet she was still brought up distant and secluded from her parents. many years passed and katherine was growing up to be presentable. proper. being spoken to only when absolutely necessary and acting as a family only when an united front was necessary to be showed to the world. but once katherine became of age, her father was killed. the mourning of that would have gone for years, if her mother’s sanity hadn’t slipped. losing her loved one made her slowly lose her mind and she put an end to her life. katherine went through heavy grief for most of her life and if it wasn't for her aunt, her household would have been doomed. her aunt was the one who taught her the games of the courts and politics. she was also the one who created the woman now before you, or at least the shell of her. katherine's aunt is the only family she currently has and she is responsible for most of the dedicisions kat herself should make, earning the title as not only her guardian, but her mentor and political advisor.

◭ katherine’s personality.

katherine felt unwanted and unloved by her family ever since she could remember herself and it has left the biggest scar on her being and daily life, resulting in her always needing affection. she'd never admit it, her aunt had taught her better. she's a mixture of confidence, needing no one, always putting herself first, which is what her aunt taught her, and craving to pour all of herself into someone and lusting after anyone who looks at her because of the lack of love in her childhood. she's learnt to love sex as an easy thing that has less to do with intimacy and more to do with craving attention. she has a tendency to fall in love easily, but that doesn't mean she falls out of it quickly. there's a lot of love in her, despite her deeming herself unlovable, when the sun has set and she's all alone again.

she's passionate and lustful, and she's aligned with her feminity and sexuality. she's fun and mysterious, and you might just expect anything from her, her mind always quick and everchanging. she likes to wander in her thoughts and make the craziest out of them her reality. she likes to be free, after having been caged as a child. she's not afraid of committment, but she's proved herself she's not capable of it before, her heart being a thing of its own, too wild and free for her or anyone else to be able to contain it. the combination of constant need for a company, getting too attached to others and questioning reality and dreams has made her quite self-destructive. after having cheated on her ex fiance (apollo) has left her on a roll of bad decisions when it comes to not only her heart but also her well being.

having left with no family but her aunt has made her learn how to stand up for herself and earn the respect of everyone in the room. she's picked up some skills of intimidation and goes out of her way to learn the ins and outs of the problems in her and other courts. one might easily become her friend, lover or enemy.

◭ katherine’s wanted connections.

friends - basic, childhood, gossipy, schemey, formal friends or any type of friends honestly are welcome, she's quite easy to get along with (if she hasn't slept with your man, ekhem) and definitely seeks companionship so anyone is welcome.

lovers - current and ex lovers, she has a lenghty list of lovers and still has a lot of love to give. either for a night or longer, their current status can be discussed! her sexuality is fluid.

blurred lines - will they/won't they type of connection, perhaps they're friends or acquaintances with a lot of tension.

forbidden - a connection that could lead to a lot of controversy, whether it's a friendship or very advantageous to either of them or both of them, or simply led by friendship or passion.

fake friends - this could be fun for the drama. either or both of them using the other for information about either their families, friends or courts.

blackmail - i'd like a plot about blackmail, we could figure out the specifics and katherine is flexible enough of a character to fit both the role of the blackmailer and the person being blackmailed about something.

mate - keeping an option open for this as well, because it's such a fun plot, and by no means leaves it easy or boring or sets anything in stone.

Apollo was not one to step away from a fight – he never had been. The Golden Lion, Prince of the Spring Court, and Captain of the Valkyrie was nothing short of a hot headed, sword happy individual. His repeated participation in the Trials and process in battle was a clear indicator of that fact, and now with his mother returned to him, he had been so sure he’d be crowned Champion. He’d bedecked himself for the even in preparation – in hope – that Faun would soon smiling down upon him as he was granted the title, a vision of golden that made him glow like the sun. He’d waited for this day not just the twenty years since her vanishing, but centuries before that, each year getting closer and closer to finally proving to his mother that he was worthy… 

But all of that faded away in an instant. One minute, he was drinking fae wine from a crystal goblet, laughing loudly with members of his battalion as they each placed bets on if he would actually win this time (tease him they might, but each one had done so in his favor) before the Trials were no longer at the forefront of their minds, but instead the chaos that unleashed in what felt like a matter of seconds. One minute, the Captain and his Valkyrie comrades were all laughing and drinking, and the next, drawing their weapons – ornamental, not blades meant for an actual fight – and plunging into the crowd to defend their alliance, their loved ones, and the innocent.

Apollo cursed the fact that he had allowed himself to wear such a blade instead of his normal Lion-pommel sword. It was all for show, too. Light, unbalanced – a weapon meant to look the part, but barley usable and only brought out when there was a sure signs that peace was the word and not battle. He’d been too caught up in the high of the trials, the ambiance of a party. Apollo had let himself be bedecked for celebration, not war. 

The princeling had been locked into a fight with a human – Resistance, no doubt, based on how the bodies in the clearing were dividing into clear fractions of who was loyal to who. The bastard had snuck up on him from behind, and while he was a formidable opponent, it had not taken long for Apollo to disarm him… but not before the human let his blade swing wide, cutting down a woman that had been forced too close to their altercation. With a roar like the great cat he’d been nicknamed after, Apollo knocked him unconscious, and quickly turned to aid the woman – only to stop short. Suddenly, the great Golden Lion looked like he’d been kicked in the stomach.

Nothing more than a boy who had caught sight of the girl who had ripped his heart from his chest.

Blinking back into the present, shoving down all the memories and pain of the past as best he could, Apollo was shouting “Kathrine!” and all but swooping down on the Dawn fae. He was beside her in an instant, kneeling beside her as he watched in horror as ruby-red blood washed from the wound in her abdomen – soaking the fine fabric of the dress she wore.

“Kitty, Kitty, look at me,” Apollo begged, tossing his ornamental blade away to clasp his hand over the weeping cut. Blood dripped past his fingers, and he used the other to lean her properly against the wall, then moved it to clasp the back of her neck to keep her upright as the chaos raged around them. “Kathrine, you cannot close your eyes, do you understand? Look at me.”

There was a buzzing, almost ringing, noise in her ears, when she fell to her knees. Her vision, blurred with tears from the pain, failed to see the outcome of the fight which she had suffered from as a result of her own carelessness. She couldn't remember the last time she was in a situation even remotely similar to this, but she should have acted smarter, she knew that. She swore at herself in her own thoughts. And she'd probably make herself regret ever stepping out of the cabinet, she had been trying to hide, if she wasn't so consumed with the pain in her lower stomach and attemps to keep herself from bleeding out, with her hands pressed against the dark red spot on dress. She had never been hurt this badly before. She was soft. Naive, when it came to violence. Always protected. Always having someone beside her. Always having someone there to tell her what to do and how to act. Never had she been left alone to make decisions of her own. And the first time in her life she was, she was hurt.

Her name. That voice, like coming with the wind from far away, hit through the carton fence of her mind and slipped into her thoughts as if she herself had spoken it, and not someone else. Had she slipped in one of her own daydreams on accident? No wonder most admired the High Fae of the Dawn Court. Their deaths were always made peaceful by their own. Her mind was slowly drifting away from the reality, whether it was from loss of blood, the paralizing pain or the natural instinct of a dreamwalker dealing with it all. Her body welcomed the senses of someone holding onto her, but her mind wasn’t entirely there to grasp it. It was flying in the clouds of trying desperately to find a place she could keep her mind occupied and happy in, while her body was suffering so much. Her nickname. That’s what got through to her. That’s what cleared the clouds away. Her thoughts started buzzing with the realization and as if her heart wasn’t already pumping so very quickly with panic, she felt the anxiety overrule the rest of her heightened senses and feelings at the recognition of who it was, calling out her name.

The shock that had taken over her body, caused by the pain from her wound, made her numb. Katherine’s eyes dropped on him. The sight of those worried eyes. Ones she once called as home. Ones she definitely didn’t deserve the worries of. “Apollo,” she whispered and pressed her eyes closed once again. She was suddenly convinced this was her fate. Seeing the person she hurt the most, right before passing. “I’m so sorry.” Her hand clasped his over her wound. There were many things she had to apologize to him for, so many. She owed him so much. Back when she had made her mistakes, Katherine had decided to keep quiet as to encourage him to hate her as her punishment. She wouldn’t have deserved his forgiveness even if he’d ever be ready to give it. She simply wouldn’t let herself get over this mistake she had made. This pain that she had caused him. She was starting to see what she deserved for it. Katherine wasn’t exactly filtering her words or what was going on around them, when she heard him speak, when she heard her say these words. “I’ll be okay,” she muttered, fooled by the sudden calmness and confusion that came with being in this state of shock, as she felt her eyes grow heavy.

It was a rare moment that Nikolas had sat down. Technically, he was working. Hell, since the damn court began welcoming others as a host, even before this year’s tournament officially began, Nikolas was working. Sure, he carved out a moment or two. Either to catch up or to check in with a few others. He even disappeared into a pub or several to partake in the unofficial events on some nights. But for the most part, Nikolas worked. Even now as he sat down next to Katherine, his date to the grand ball. Two champagne flutes in his hands, ever the gentleman, he handed the duchess hers. The quiet moment disappeared with a series of noise. One that halted the bubbly drink to his lips and onto the table top beneath them.

Instinctively, Nik stood, hand on the hilt of his sheathed sword and already nonverbally directing the nearest autumn guards as they met his gaze and then moved. “Dunno,” He murmured, jaw tight and scouring the crowd with intense attention. The burst of sudden movement and the sound of clashing blades and thudding bodies had Nikolas draw his own, hulking back turned towards Katherine in defense. It was her fragile tone, almost lost in the den of growing chaos, that grabbed his attention. “With me.” He began, leveling Katherine with a steely gaze as he glanced down at her. “Eh, I dunno if you’ve ever wielded a blade before but…” He trailed off, stepping his foot on the very chair he’d sat in moments ago. Nikolas’ kilt billowed with the movement as he lowered one of his socks and revealed a hidden blade with a beautiful blue handle. “But you’re a bright woman. You take the pointy end, and anyone that’s not me?” He paused, removing the blade and placing it in Katherine’s palm before curling her hand around it to make a tight fist. “Ya bury it in ‘em. Then ya take it out, it’ll be slippery so pull hard, and ya do it again. Aim it here.” Nikolas emphasized his words by taking Kat’s closed fist, dagger still in her grasp, and pressed the pointed end against either sides of his belly as he instructed Kat. “Or here.” The dagger’s tip lifted to rest above exactly where his heart would be under his dress shirt. “It’s scary, I know. But if ya have to use it, has to be right.”

Nikolas paused, taking in the sight of the duchess he’d charmed into accepting his offer as a date. He sighed. Gently, one of his large hands cupped the side of her face. “Hey,” He said in a soft, reassuring tone. “You stay close to me. I’ll keep ya safe, Kat, I promise. Ya didn’t know it but it was the smartest thing you did, saying yes to me. Now you’re gonna take a breath, steel ya spine and follow me, alright? We’re getting outta here.”

Her eyes dropped at the sound of him taking out his sword. Katherine was starting to wish she had one of her own and it’d be even more useful to be able to hold one and know how to use it too. Other than that, she was physically useless and there were too many innocent fae, fae who were on her side to use her powers of. Her dreamwalking abilities asked for a cleared mind of hers and a lot of focus on a specific person, but the place was crowded, everything was happening too quickly and she was close to panicking. She hadn’t been in a situation like this since she was very young, so her first instinct was to escape, and by the actions and words of her date, his plans were something entirely different.

Katherine couldn’t blame him. It was his court. There was a lot that Nikolas was responsible for, the duchess assumed. She valued that in him. He looked strong and ready, and he was trained for this. It was the reason she had decided to attend the ceremony under his arm after all. Her own insecurities and fears caused by the brawl made her feel weak and useless. She suddenly felt disgusted by herself. She suddenly swore to herself that she’d learn everything that she needed to know about finding the strength within her, because she couldn’t depend on the luck of being with a strong fae by her side whenever something bad happened to her anymore. Katherine stared at the blade that she was given by Nikolas and looked back at him in question. Would she even be capable of hurting someone when the time came? She just wanted to disappear and be gone. She wanted to be home. The sudden urge to see the clouds wrapped in golden lights. She didn’t want to hurt anyone.

“Either sides of stomach. Heart. I got it,” she muttered, gazing almost through him while still having a tight hold on his gifted blade. Her soul hurt with how much she hoped she wouldn’t have the need to actually use it on anyone. The duchess nodded at his words and took a shaky inhale to calm herself before glancing behind him to take in the situation. She trusted his word not only because of his title, but also the confidence in his tone. She was going to stick by his side until she found a sanctuary. “I won’t leave your side.” It was a promise. Katherine pressed her eyes shut for just a second before stepping into his shadow with the blade in her hand, ready to protect her from harm. “If you get me to a safe place, I’ll owe you my life.”

It seemed as though Katherine wasn’t learning from her past mistakes. Though, her safety at a tiny room wasn’t exactly guaranteed either way,it seemed as though she had a burning urge to leave the grounds for a reason. It was uncertain what else could have happened, if she had simply stayed. Perhaps, someone who would want a high fae of the Dawn Court dead would have also wanted to seek sanctuary there, and it would have been worse than what she was already suffering with.

Her hands were still tightly pressed against her stomach and half of her dress was visibly red, from the blood having spilled from her wound. Her skin felt hot and sweaty, despite the autumn breeze coming in from an unknown source, trying to relieve her fever, which had taken over her whole body. The healing process had began and was sucking out all the energy out of her to close up the wound, caused from a slash of blade. She felt dizzy, exhausted and a little nauseous, while the numbing pain was still burning in her lower stomach. Katherine was trying to pull all of her strength together not to pass out against the windowsill she had leaned towards to take a break inbetween the few steps she had taken towards the exit. 

A familiar scent and energy of warmth woke her up from the slumber wide-awake dream she kept slipping in and out of for god knows how long, all throughout the shock caused by her pain. She was just so exhausted. She was just so ready to give into it. She just needed to rest. She needed to sleep and heal. “Maxim.” She had caught someone’s hand with her blurried gaze. Katherine could not trust her eyes to tell her it really was him, but the way his skin felt underneath her fingers, the sound of his breathing and that scent. She could not have mistaken it for anything else. She knew every single inch of him. It had to be him.

She should have stayed. She should have stayed in that room, hidden from that raging and growing fight in which she had no say at all. She should have swallowed and kept herself busy with whatever she could find in that tiny little room until she could hear it be over with, but it was suffocating her. The walls were closing in on her. She couldn’t breathe. Think. She wasn’t feeling rational. She was going to have a panic attack because of the situation she was in, if she was going to stay in hiding. God, why am I so weak? Katherine could simply not keep from criticizing herself and every single move of hers. She was being weak and she knew it. She hated not being able to act rationally and stay. And she hated not having much of control over her powers when she was thrown into a situation like this. She had a lot of wasted potential.  As a dreamwalker she could aid others, but she coudn’t focus. She was uselesss. She just had to get out.

Katherine had checked the hallway before exiting her little haven about twice before she stepped out in the clearing. During the few steps she took, she peaked to see if there was anyone she could help and bring along with her, to get off these grounds of violence and combat. Her eyes were scanning the action nearby. She was just looking, her neck streched to face the other side of the room, when a fight between a fae and a human got closer than she’d ever thought it would have. Katherine was suddenly pushed towards  an opposite wall in the midst of all action, letting out a loud cry from sudden burst of pain she felt in her lower stomach. Her hands instinctively pressed on her stomach, painting them red, as she let out another gasp at the growing burning feeling. She slowly collapsed on her knees, her beige dress, turning red with her own blood. No, this was not how she was going to die. It couldn’t be. Tears slid down her cheeks, as she couldn’t comprehend anything other than the pain. The pain consumed her completely. She could see the fae warrior still fighting the human who’s weapon she was suffering from through faded vision. Absent-minded, stupid little girl. That’s what her aunt would say. She gulped and closed her eyes, leaning against the walll, not being able to make any sense of her own thoughts, as it was a muster of regrets, hatred and terrifying fear of dying. This could simply not be it. She was going to refuse her fate if this were to be it. Katherine clung onto the wall with the will to survive as she forced herself to open her eyes and see a male figure right in front of her.

It seemed to happen in a single blink of eye. Fae, gathered only for the purpose of witnessing the ceremony at the end of the torunament and celebrating the winners, were listening in on the allocution until all hell broke loose. It was the sight of others, expressions in horror, turned towards a specific area, that had caught Katherine’s attention. She turned her head to see. She wanted to see what was going on. By the sounds of gasps and a scream, it couldn’t have been good. What were they looking at? And then the complete havoc erupted. Katherine let in a sharp breath, catching Nikolas sleeve in worry. 

She had had a bad feeling all morning about the event. She had written it off as her mood swings, but now she regretted not listening in on her intuition. Katherine wasn’t one to miss such a great event, but the sight of humans attacking fae and the sudden violence all around her made her catch her breath. “What’s happening,” it was more of a whisper to herself, before she turned to her date. She didn’t understand it. And she felt like she should have. Katherine licked her lips and looked up at Nik, her panic starting to kick in. She was afraid of getting hurt, despite of her ability to heal faster than humans; she was frightened of the violence she saw rather than the obvious enemy itself. “Nik, where do I go?” she asked scared and having tuned her face towards him and not the brawl. It might have been too late, as the whole place had turned into a battlefield. Katherine didn’t expect him to protect her, but she did want to get some advice out of him before he’d probably have his own responsibilities to get to.

Nikolas’ large chest heaved with a sigh of relief. The hand deep in his hair moved to sit, briefly, atop of said chest instead. He sent a small, sincere smile in the duchess’ direction. “I…” Nikolas cleared his throat. “Dancing isn’t important to most here. And I’m not-” He paused. “It’s not always taught and the last ball I attended? Another duchess complained that one of our lords stomped on her feet.” Nikolas confided with an embarrassed yet amused look. He paused, fully considering Katherine’s offer before continuing with a nod. “I would. A great fighter should not also be a terrible dancer, eh?” Nik rebutted with a growing smile as he glanced down at Katherine.

“Thank you, m’lady.” He murmured, voice in a low tone and face sporting a sincere expression. Nikolas sat one of his hands atop of her where it rest on his forearm. “I’m not a slow student.” He promised. “Aye, I’m sure we will. But a dance or two with a beautiful woman like yourself, how can I say no?” A moment of silence passed between them. “I know that I lead. But that’s about all.” He confessed with a shy chuckle and his broad shoulders rolling in a shrug. “And music, shouldn’t we have some? Or should we make our own?”

Katherine managed to let out an overexaggerated gasp as her fingertips touched the chunky necklace on her chest, but her lips formed a smile soon after that. His explanation to her made sense, and yet she wanted to turn it into a game. “That duchess must have been a piece of work! Is that now how you think of all of the duchesses now?” she questioned him with a teasing smile. “I wonder if I’ll ever be able to change your mind,” she added and looked at him wide-eyed. “He should not. And I hope to see the great fighter bit as well some time.”

“You’re flattering now. Careful, it might turn into three or four dances. And I might end up tiring Autumn’s great warrior out,” she mused, after taking note of his touch with a smile. Nikolas had left the sort of impression on Katherine that he was a good man. She could tell that just like any other person he probably had problems of his own, but there was something precious about him opening up to her about his worries of dancing together. It made him someone like no other in her eyes. Someone different. “I’ll teach you one of my favourite dances, I think you might like it as it isn’t that hard to learn either,” she said quickly and took his hand in hers. The Dawn Court preferred to have dances that very quite free and commonly improvised, but there were other, very old dances that were known all across Astralis, that they valued just as highly. She raised their hands together and twirled under them taking place next to him. “And how would we make our own? Are you secretly an amazing singer?”

Rowan had one goal and it was to move from court to court, making sure she spoke with all the key players in each. Though the one court that concerned her, and definitely made her pause to think on her next move was Dawn. Not only had she planned to speak with the new High Lord, but those existing members that had been there prior to coup and the murder of Lysander. It was almost as if Katherine had read her mind. As the Duchess approached, a bright smile tugged at Rowan’s lips. “Autumn is treating me well. How about yourself? I always enjoy my time here when I visit. It’s such a different atmosphere to Day. I’m grateful that Autumn is not an enemy.” Even though they weren’t an ally, those within the court Rowan could call friends. “Of course, I’d love to take a walk. I’ve actually been wanting to speak with you. See how you are, and how everything is going with Dawn…under new leadership.” She said the last part in a hushed tone, knowing that eyes and ears were everywhere.

Autumn has been quite welcome to her and Katherine was especially appreaciating the nature. She was a lover of water, as surprising as that seemed, and particularly looked forward to exploring the nearby rivers and puddles to her residence, along with the gorgeous scenery. “It’s been a nice change, it’s been a while since I’ve stayed out of my court for so long, but I’ve definitely missed the rush,” she admitted. “I’ve been welcomed with warmth, as windy as it might get here,” Kat joked and let a small laugh slip by. She gestured for her to join her on a walk outside the spectator tent when the High Lady’s question found her ears. The duchess didn’t like to get involved in politics, and that was something most acquaintances knew of her, but because of her lack of interest in it, most High Fae liked to underestimate her. She was usually very easily skipped over in topics like these, but Katherine was also someone who’s interests changed more quickly than her attire. The High Lady of the Day Court questioning her made he feel important. “There are a lot of changes Dawn is going to have to face.” It was more of a fact than an overview, but she didn’t want to say much. “It seems as though our court has been in a foggy slumber for too long, and our High Lord has stepped in to save us from it. I’m thrilled to see where the future takes us,” Katherine spoke and finally looked Rowan in the eye as she walked beside her. And she believed it too, but that might have been the positive thinking of only her. “I hope you take my answer as an opinion of more than just one.”

Marie sat across the room and shook her head when the other came over and spoke. “I have, you must have been listening to them drag on.” She said rolling her eyes but shaking her head, “there have been a lot of rumors passing around here. Especially about the trials and what they have heard the competitors have taken place in.” She smirked drank from her crystal, keeping a steady flow of wine in her. 

Her brow raised at the other at the needing her help. She wasn’t really in the mood, “First I need to know what I’m giving help in to determine if I can even help to begin with, or if I want to help.” She shrugged but pointed to the chair next to her, “have a seat.”

“I’m convinced you can interest me in a better topic of conversation, that’s all,” Katherine spoke softly and took the empty seat beside Marie, turning her full attention towards her. “And I was right.” The eyes of the duchess glowed with her use of words, especially, the one that thrilled her was the word rumors. “And have you any news on who seems to stand out the most?” She didn’t have high hopes for anyone new and unexpected to pop up, but she was a tad bit curious about just how much she’d lose on her bets.

Katherine lightly touched Marie’s lower arm with a short giggle. “Don’t you worry. All I’m asking for is just a bit of intell and an interestingly informative afternoon together,” she explained herself. “I’ve got to admit. I’ve been keeping to my own court for a very long time now, so I haven’t heard much of what’s going on at the other courts. Dawn has been going through changes and my attention was needed elsewhere. I think you might understand what I’m trying to say.”

Geneva hummed under her breath as she observed Kat, waiting for the duchess to finish her train of thought. Sometimes, it seemed, the other woman would get into certain moods. Today, it appeared, that it was one for quiet introspection. At least on the surface, it seemed. The pair sat across from one another and Eva watched as the other fae toyed with the flickering flames of the candles atop of their table. “I don’t know,” Geneva confessed, arm extending to retrieve and sip from her own wine glass. “That doesn’t sound like convincing. Or persuasion. More like manipulation.” Which, in Eva’s honest opinion, was a valid conclusion.

“Everyone finds beauty in different things. An example being why several different courts exist, instead of a simply, combined court. It’s like trying to share your favorite song with a deaf soul? Or your favorite statute with one who is blind? Trying to explain the complexities of magic to a human. None of these are impossible. But they are, in their own right, difficult. The question I’d ask myself, after that one, is ‘do the ends justify the means?’” Eva reasoned before fully taking in the sight of Kat. “…Why? What do you think?”

Katherine didn’t particularly enjoy being her dreamy self when she was surrounded by people. She could spend days on her thoughts in her chambers, but it wasn’t any day that she was able to have so many great experiences and conversations with fae from all around the realm. She felt slightly guilty, having pushed Geneva in such a philosophical conversation, but if anyone was going to give some answers to her, she trusted it was her.

“Manipulation? How would that be different from persuasion in this context?” she asked a little surprised as her eyes drifted up to find an eyecontact. “I think I now understand your trail of thought, everything always makes sense whenever you explain it to me,” she let out a silly laugh. “I think I might have went too far for idealizing how a truthful and deep mental connection would work that’s all, one that would not ask for manipulation or even persuasion of course. Now that’d be something to write a book about,” she explained and shook her head slightly, letting the unfocused look from her eyes disappear entirely. “Am I boring you yet?”

Ada had always held a penchant for danger. It was both a blessing and a curse, when she truly thought on the subject. Advantageous in that it kept things interesting; made her dauntless in the face of warfare or matters of her pack’s safety, and yet also marginally reckless where any semblance of intimacy was concerned. There was simply something about walking that razors edge with these people, and powerful women were a weakness she could rarely disregard. There were many, when she had silently inquired all those months ago, that didn’t seem to believe Kathrine fit into either of such categories. Yet Ada was no so foolish. She didn’t always buy the air-headed performance that could be portrayed so exquisitely for all to see, and while she still enjoyed them, she found herself pulled further to whatever distant fierceness lurked just beneath.   

“A dangerous notion, Duchess. But one I can’t say i’m not appreciative of right now.” She hummed with a faint chuckle, coming to a halt in front of the high fae. These Autumn guards were hardly something she saw as a personal issue, but she was also fully aware just how much the Courts enjoyed their gossip – A sentiment Katherine hardly appeared to care about it seemed, brow raising at the blatant disregard for subtlety. “Is that so?” Ada questioned, lips tugging into a relatively impassive smirk that gave away little beyond vague interest and perhaps a glimmer of inappropriate thoughts. “Well we can’t have that now can we? Given its importance and all.” Her eyes lingered a moment longer, glinting with amusement before briefly surveying their surroundings. “I’ve been told to be on my most benevolent behaviour while sampling the delights of your realm. I suppose helping nobility with such a simple task could aid in that. Besides…” She trailed off with a sultry smile, angling her body closer as she leaned in. “If memory serves, it’s the wickedest little creatures that favour the darkness most.”

Katherine didn’t consider herself to be a woman who was hard to understand, and her court was extremely open about having their needs and wants made known, whatever they were. She was straightforward about lust and attraction. She felt a pull towards Ada, and she wasn’t one to shy away from it. The duchess seemed to turn into a woman of mystery when it came to everything else though, which is exactly why she tried to pull away from people before things got serious, if they hadn’t realized how insanely complicated it was to be part of Katherine’s life.

“I’m glad it entertained you. I think you see me as more timid than I actually am,” the duchess responded and pressed her lips together. Even though, she was possibly one of the few High Fae who couldn’t physically defend herself, which was a very stupid thing not to learn with that much time on one’s hands, she was very capable of defending herself, being a dreamwalker. So those inappropriate thoughts appearing one by one in Ada’s mind could have been all Katherine’s work, even if they probably weren’t. Her appearance, expressions and words had the same impact. A foxy smile lingered on the female’s lips as she listened to Ada reason for what was suggested. “Your benevolence will be kindly appreaciated and rewarded, you can take my word for it,” she added simply and her fingers instinctively clung onto the other female’s edge of outerwear as she leaned in closer. “Seems like you’ve got me all figured out, haven’t you?” Katherine liked being on the side of making surprises for someone, as most people, but she wasn’t planning on surprising her. The duchess had drowned in the pupils of the gorgeous female in front of her, that she had forgotten about the guards still keeping an eye on them. The two of them might be able to give them a show they’d never forget in their lifetime and Katherine had nothing against audience, but it was getting breezy in the court that always seemed to be a little colder than she liked. “Some tea then?” There seemed to be a lot hiding in her eyes behind the way she had softly mouthed the word tea.
