i love the "grace somehow lives as long as an eridian" interpretations of the movie ending cuz i honestly think something like that could happen in cannon and it wouldn't feel out of place.

like they all are solomely accepting the fact that grace is going to die in like a scary amount of eridian years, and then as he gets to like 90 everyone is bracing for it, but he just...keeps aging. he keeps his mobility- if anything his back is getting worse cuz of the slightly increased gravity, and his health seems to be steady. on the day of graces 122nd birthday (the oldest a human has ever lived) the eridian scientists that study grace are like. hey. what the fuck. and grace is like ┐(´～｀ˇ)┌

alright here’s something I’ve been thinking of-

Eridians stay awake for very long periods of time. I don’t think it’s ever explicitly stated how long they stay awake but I know it’s a lots- like weeks at a time (plz correct me if I’m wrong.)

Grace as an Eridian is not used to this. his human psyche is still expecting to get tired after a while, and after long enough I think he would start to feel a little bit crazy. His body feels completely fine, and that makes it all the more strange as the hours pass and his just.. still going. Still awake and aware and at full brain capacity.

Eridians physically can’t get sleep deprived, they just pass out once they get exhausted enough. So nobody knows what Grace is going through- after 60 hours he gets jittery, restless, probably zones out sometimes like his human thought process is trying to go to sleep. it’s all mental and I think it would be a while before he gets used to it :]

My favorite professor, shout out Glenn, would interrupt students who were saying "Well XYZ clearly felt--" and go "No, backtrack, scratch that. They are a character. Not a person. They don't have any thoughts other than what the writer clearly specifies on paper they have. Don't give agency to nonliving things, they are not real, they never were real, and it is dangerous to lose that line."

He was a sweet man and raised in the Midwest so interrupting people hurt his very soul, that's how dangerous he felt the idea of losing the line of fiction was.

He notably also taught a course called Bible in Lit which I took and those lines came back a lot.
