“Oh, great,” she said with a relieved sigh, proud that she had somehow managed to find shelter even though she knew virtually nothing about this world. For a second, she thought she might stand a chance living amongst humans, no matter how clueless she was. If she could figure this out, she could figure out anything, right?
“Thank you so much, I’m new here and I don’t have a home yet,” she explained, even though he hadn’t exactly asked. Blame it on her excitement. “I’m Sierra, what’s your name?” It was short lived, however, and replaced with confusion when he mentioned two things she had never hear of before—cash or credit.
“I don’t have credit. Or cash. I don’t have anything to pay with,” she said quietly, a little defeated. “All I have on me are some sea shells.”
new here. well, that wasn’t surprising, but carter couldn’t keep himself from wondering if she only meant this town. the female looked like a human, sure, but so did he... and he certainly wasn’t human. “ah. where are you from?” he questioned with a polite smile, if only to make her feel comfortable enough to open up to him. “i’m carter.”
the vampire raised his eyebrows at her obvious confusion. it only fueled his theory about her species, but it wasn’t until she mentioned sea shells that it clicked. carter could be wrong, of course, but something told him he wasn’t. so that meant he was most likely having his first encounter with a mermaid. interesting. very interesting.
“it’s okay. don’t worry about it.” as much as he loved making profit, he was too intrigued to send her away. “i will show you your room. i’m sure we can figure something out.”
