The differences in the identities can be dramatic. As much as the difference between you and me and every person in that auditorium. The identities have different IQ’s. They have different physical strengths. One personality is a Russian weightlifter and can lift three times his body weight. Their ability to hyper-focus and have different experiences is astounding. Have these individuals, through their suffering, unlocked the potential of the brain? Is this the ultimate doorway to all things we call unknown? “When me and John have a fight as father and daughter in sign language early in the film he was the most dominant character, and I was supposed to cower to his needs. But as we started filming it I said I would begin to rebel. He loved that idea.” Millicent Simmonds had a true impact on the film with her alterations. “At the end when he signs, ‘I love you.’ I said I think he needs to say, ‘I’ve always loved you.’ Because that covers the difficult period. Then when I suggested that he cried.” This proves the importance need for diversity and representation in cinema.
