“Do I have Smash–” Kevin joked, retrieving the cartridge from a box on the dresser in front of him before grabbing two controllers as well as turning the console on, “–as if that even needed to be asked…now, you make fun of me for my main- your ass is grass, Strucker”

“Oh God. Don’t tell me it’s Jigglypuff.” Andy replied with a laugh. He waited for Kevin to get situated. He was a bit too cautious to try to take a controller from his bare hand.

“Tough guy, hm?” His head was tilted, but Venom stood still. “We won’t touch you. Too small. But you look very angry.”

“I’m tougher than I look.” Andy said as the pressure he was exerting intensified. Disregarding his second comment he inquired, “Who or what are you?”

“The saving of mutant kind, blah, blah, blah. But also, yourself. Make sure you’re okay. I haven’t really been able to ask: how are you doing with what happened to Rebecca?”

A chill went down Andy’s spine as he felt a sinking feeling in his stomach. Fists clenched he took a deep breath in. “I’m okay.” He said lying through his teeth. The cracking sound still haunted his mind. “Reva said it was a good thing so I’m just trying to remember that.” He said as he felt his tear ducts swell. He was not going to let himself cry. Not now.

“No worries, I feel you.” Andy replied with a faint laugh and a shake of his head.”

Glancing downward at the old Nintendo 64 plugged into the TV in front of him, the two controllers practically glaring at him, Kevin sighed deeply. Bonding. Gross.

“You uh— you wanna play?”

“Yeah sure.” Andy said as a small smile found his way onto his face. He normally was a PC gamer and favored League of Legends but who could pass up on a little N64? Approaching Kevin, “You got Smash?”

“I’ll be fine.” Reed answered, avoiding his son’s question. He had a dosage of the suppressant with him but he could wait later to take it– he hoped. “It’s just been.. tougher than I thought.”

“I get it.” It’s not as if Andy’s powers were the easiest to control at first and they weren’t even as dangerous as his Dad’s. “Have you thought about embracing them instead of fighting against them?”

“You should know, you do look tasty– but Eddie would be upset if we were to eat you.” Venom smiled and crouched down slightly. “He has so many rules.”

“There’s a lot of nice things that’ll never work. Me keeping Dawn. Our families coming back together. If we want to survive this, Andy, then we have to do what we need to. It’s not gonna be fun and it’s not going to be easy. Maybe one day we can mend the fences or whatever, but not today. Not right now.”

“Yeah...” Andy said, his expression dropping. Burying his feelings and lifting his expression he went on. “We have more important things to take care of right now.”

“I really don’t know what to say. That was all over the place.”

“I do see your point, but there is much more involved with being King. There can be dire consequences if one abuses the power they are given.”

“Right.” Andy replied thinking on his words. Was he abusing his own powers? Taking things too far? He quickly shook off those thoughts. He was just doing what he had to do to save his species and his family. “Don’t want to screw stuff up for your people, I get it.”

Something buried deep in Kevin caused him to kick himself mentally. Wasn’t part of being here to build allies? Have someone there for him if things were to ever go south? God knows the X-Men were never planning to fill that void.

“—–Andy, wait.”

He was glad that Kevin stopped him. After everything with Rebecca the Hellfire Club had been a bit lonely. He needed someone other than Lorna to talk to. Fighting off a smirk he turned to Kevin. “Yeah?”

“Remind me why we’re still having this conversation?” Kevin raised an eyebrow, arms folded across his chest.

Andy sighed as he shook his head. “We’re not. Take care, man.” Andy said with a wave as he headed for the door.

“–you actually think I care about that? Wow, you’re a lot more naive than you look,” Kevin responded, incredulous.

“Lorna’s the only one with powers as cool as mine so I have to go with hers. I’ll keep mine as long as I can tho.”
