finally put together a little character sheet of Narien! She’s been on my mind a lot recently and I can’t wait to share more about her!! 🔥

Narien and Galadriel's sisterly relationship from before their fallout is so dear to me 🥹

a little bit of lore about them below the cut

At the beginning of the second age, Narien's mother was killed in the fight against Morgoth. Narien was found alive and was brought to what would be Lindon to be reunited with her father, Calion, King of the Nárenya.

Narien would be raised for a time in Lindon amongst other noble elves where she would eagerly befriend Galadriel, awed by her strength and wisdom. Galadriel in return became a sort of older sister figure to Narien, seeing herself in the young she-elf's firey personality. Between her own quests, Galadriel would help raise Narien, and teach her ways of the court, and of the sword.

But tensions would rise between them as Narien grew older. Galadriel and the other elves feared Morgoths return and turned their paranoia to the Nárenya and their unorthodox ways. This would cause distrust to grow between Narien and Galadriel. Narien was angered by the sudden paranoia, and Galadriel thought that Narien's anger was a sign that her fears were true. Fearing that Nárenya might have held connections to Morgoth, a council (including Galadriel) was held. It was decided that the Nárenya would be exiled from Lindon and any other elven realms. This would cause a confrontation between Galadriel and Narien where Narien attacks her. But being no match for the much older and practiced she-elf, Narien left wounded both physically and spiritually and departed Lindon with her family to their place of exile.

One of my favorite parts of the Hunger Games was how, in the beginning, Katniss was jealous amd resentful of the townies for not having to work in the coal mines. Then, over time, she realizes they aren't the true enemy. Then she sees the other district kids as so much better off than she is, because at least they don't come from district 12. But then she realizes they aren't the enemy either. And then she hates the other victors, before realizing they have all been exploited just as much as she has. So the enemy must be the Capitol citizens, who benefit from the exploitation of the districts, right? Wrong again. They are just uninformed and pampered people who have been kept in the dark about the true horrors faced by the rest of the country. Most of them, when push comes to shove, are perfectly willing to help the war efforts.

And slowly, over the three books, all theses separate factions of downtrodden people start to see each other as allies instead of enemies, and that is what propells them to eventual victory over the true enemy, the government that tried to pit them against each other. Just fun, totally fictional things to think about that have nothing whatsoever to do with our current life.
