He can't let his emotions get in the way of this, and he is so very aware of that in these moments. It was one of the few solid feelings that he could hold onto. Everything about her seemed real; like a walking snapshot from history. John knows enough about the world, now, to know that the likelihood that this was a trap was astronomical, but that's .. that's not the thing that worries him the most.

What if she was real? How much does he tell her? How much could he? Not only in terms of preserving whatever timeline bullshit there was to preserve, but did he actually have it in him? The fire, the hunting, their kids. Their kids. Who were half way across America right now, dealing with an issue on Route 666, barely two weeks after Dean was in the hospital.

All of those thoughts came zooming to a stop at her words, and after a beat, he frowns, stepping forwards.

"You say that like this ain't yours."

this john is a lot different than the one she's used to. it's not just the general weariness, whatever it is that he's gone through these past thirty years, it must have been hell. she doesn't think she can trust this version. he reminds her of some of the seasoned hunters she's met in her time. the way they try to use intimidation as a weapon against monsters and humans alike. she stands her ground.

she hasn't time-traveled before but considering everything she's seen lately including disappearing monster sacks- nothing surprises her anymore. there has got to be a reason she's here and her friends aren't. mary just needs to work the case. "it is, but i figured it was just a matter of time." especially with the akrida out there. for all she knows this could be its doing. "my question still stands."

jessica hadn't even been paying attention to the date, she was still recovering from trying to have fun on halloween like she used to. but the lingering gazes and how on edge everyone around her seemed to be had been enough of a hint for the blonde to gaze at the calendar and subsequently remember the significance of november second. ❝ i'd appreciate it if you would stop looking at me like i'm going to spontaneously combust. i'm right here, alive, and i'm f i n e. ❞

she's been dreading the day for a week now, but despite it all mary's doing a good job acting like it's a regular day and not the anniversary of what should've been her death decades ago if she hadn't been plucked from her own timeline. it's why she keeps an eye out for jessica. despite all of their difference she was the only one capable of understanding what the other woman was going through. she's acutely aware of the pistol strapped to her side. she doesn't know what to think. he claims to be john, but she knows better than to take his word for it. monsters lie and she's not convinced he wasn't one, it would make more sense than her space-warping her way thirty years into the future. "fine." she can follow his lead if that's what it takes to get her closer to the truth. the numbers on the paper line up with what he told her. it helps a little, faking a newspaper feels a bit much.

mary can recognize the old john when she looks at him. assuming this is all real where does that leave them? shouldn't 2005 mary be here alongside them? shouldn't she be done being involved in everything supernatural by now? she's not sure she wants to hear the answers. he looks exhausted.
