can i ask what the whole. vent app thing going down rn is?

nearly as long as the app has existed, it's been tossed between groups and companies in the attempt to salvage its archaic coding held together with spit, scotch tape, and popsicle sticks. the most recent team was the owners and engineers at talklife.

from the get-go, they promised that the app wouldn't turn into talklife 2.0, wouldn't shut down; they were just there to fix it and keep it running smoothly. a couple months ago, they claimed to be working on migrating vent to the talklife engine. first promise broken. at one point they made a poll, leaving it up to the community whether they should shut it down or try to migrate. it was an overwhelming "yes, try to salvage it and migrate." so they tried.

jamie (the backstabbing asshole in charge) said a week or two ago that all their attempts to migrate it had been a failure. the app was simply too broken. listed a bunch of technical jargon that 80% of the community did not understand.

cut to today. around 6-7 hours ago, the app has been offline. not a huge surprise, its always been broken and we've all become accustomed to error 502; its just a part of the experience. except that it turns out the reason it went down this time, was due to an overload of activity, because vent posted on the community page that they're shutting the bitch down. i haven't been able to see it myself yet, but there was also a post made on instagram about it.

second promise broken. jamie and the talklife team barely even tried. ive been on vent since 2016. furious and heartbroken doesn't begin to explain how i feel.
