Major Update on 5-19-25!
Oops!
Incredibly late with this one! Either way, the newest major update for Deadlock is out!
It is...
THE ITEM SHOP REWORK!
Link
I'm only going to go over the broad strokes here, since I would just be regurgitating the patch-notes to you, but here's some of the more interesting things that have come to the cursed apple!
Firstly, the update's namesake, the new shop and all that surrounds it!
Firstly, the old...
and voilà! The new!
Here are the other two pages if you're curious!
All of these lovely images are courtesy of the Deadlock Wiki. Please use it instead of the Fandom wiki, I beg.
As you can see, the shop got a complete UI makeover! Personally, I love the little detail of the weapons category belonging to Fairfax Industries; It's such a cute little touch! All of the new item portraits are super neat as well. If you haven't already gone and tested these new items on the streets of New York, then I highly recommend it!
This UI overhaul, of course, comes with tons of new items as well.
A couple of my favorites are Vortex Web, Split Shot, and Counterspell! Being able to parry Lash's Death Slam with the latter will never not be funny to me.
Along with all of this, there have been some changes to how items work as well. Overall, slots have been decreased from 16 down to 12; you've got to make sure those items count! Secondly, there are no longer any item slot restrictions. Do you want to make a build that has only spirit items? Go ahead! The shopkeeper isn't going to be stopping you any time soon!
As well as the shop rework, some map changes and hero changes were also pushed. For the map changes, I'd be here all day, since there was a major art pass for it. There's an amazing video by the guys over at Dead Air that summarizes the map changes (and the entire general update better than I can here.)
However, here are some of my favorite screenshots I've gotten from the map so far!
Now, lets move on to the hero changes.
Firstly, just like what was leaked, Mcginnis and Professor Dynamo got new models!
Since it's practically the same as what leaked on the 1st of May, I wont dwell on it too much.
Here's her new hero select pose. (again, courtesy of the deadlock wiki).
Here are the new models for her Mini-Turret, and her Medicinal Specter.
As a Mcginnis main, I've frankly never been happier with her design.
Now, onto the professor!
Here's the professor's new hero select!
Here's the professor in-game.
He's even got a little wedding ring! First all of his voice lines about his wife, Marla, and now this. I absolutely adore all of the little details that Valve puts in.
Wrapping things up here, we've still got a couple more things to cover.
There have been a couple of changes to soul orbs, to quote the patch notes,
They work a bit differently now, so make sure to hop into sandbox and test it out!
There have also been a couple of changes to movement and wall jumping too! It feels loads more fluid to me.
Other than that, there's been some minor VO tweaks and remastering here and there, some hero adjustments, etc.
And that's pretty much it! Since it's taken me so long to get around to doing this, I've had ample time to dig around in the files and find some interesting stuff! So expect some more stuff in that vein soon. Bye!
