Daphne: fools family into thinking she's been having a successful courtship with Simon, so one is surprised about them getting married.

Anthony: is courting Edwina but it's obvious to the entire family he's in love with Kate. No one is surprised about them getting married.

Francesca: has a sweet courtship with John, so it's no surprise they're getting married.

Colin: speed-run courtship with Penelope literally lasts one carriage ride and immediately tells the family they're engaged, but Colin's been close friends with Pen for so long that aside from Eloise (who's got a whole thing with Pen happening) it's not that big of a surprise that they're getting married.

The theme of Francesca’s novel is actually “sexual awakening” because she’s initially attracted to Michael on a base, sexual level that’s different than how she’s attracted to John. It makes her feel guilty. It’s probably the easiest to gender swap. Just my opinion ofc :):):):)

Also, the actual having kids part was in a second epilogue. Her book ended with approx 0 children.
