Cycling books generally come in three distinct categories. First, there are the training manuals, which assume that if you donât suffer, you must be riding a beach cruiser and stopping for ice cream. Then, there are the biographies of professional cyclists, all of whom, against all odds, have somehow endured more suffering than even the training manuals recommend. And finally, there are coffee table books, featuring breathtaking photos of those aforementioned pros âbooks that exist to remind you that, no matter how much you train, you will never look that good in Lycra.
Clearly, what was missing was a set of books that address the real issues in cycling. Like, how do you draft off a stranger without creeping them out? And is there any way to look good while carrying an overstuffed saddle bag, or is that just the cycling equivalent of wearing socks with sandals?
