BREAKING BENJAMIN Teases 'Dear Agony' Video Featuring LACEY STURM
BREAKING BENJAMIN has released a teaser for its music video for āDear Agonyā. The full clip, which features a guest appearance by Lacey Sturm (ex-FLYLEAF), will make its online debut tomorrow (Wednesday, April 15).
āDear Agonyā is taken from BREAKING BENJAMINās latest album, āAuroraā, a collection of reimagined versions of the bandās biggest and most popular songs and one new song, āFar Awayā. āAuroraā also includes special guests Scooter Ward (COLD), Michael Barnes (RED) and Spencer Chamberlain (UNDEROATH), to name a few.
Last summer, BREAKING BENJAMINās founder/frontman Ben Burnley told āCutterās RockCastā that he had been friends with Sturm for more than 10 years. āAnd one of the first tours, I think, they [FLYLEAF] ever did ā not the first, but one of the first tours they did ever ā was with us,ā he said. āAnd it was a lot of fun. It was a lot different back in those days. Enough success to have fun, but not overboard, and it was all new and everything. And she was always really cool; the whole band was always really, really cool.
"When I first heard them, FLYLEAF, I was really blown away by her inflection and her style,ā he continued. āIf you think Iām unique [as a singer], she is one hundred percent unique ā but in a good way. Sometimes singers that are unique, for me⦠I donāt wanna put anybody down, but sometimes people are different just to be different ā itās not really good; itās just different. But sheās different and⦠[sheās doing] her own thing.
"Sheās a really positive person and she does put off a positive vibe, which is really refreshing, especially for me ā [since] I can be a negative person,ā he added. āSheās just a really nice, sweet, genuine person. Singing-wise, I really respect her.ā

Thoughts on Aurora
So I just got done listening to all of the songs on Aurora and...itās okay.
Now as a huge Breaking Benjamin fan, I was of course incredibly excited to hear that the guys were releasing a ānewā album, which would consist mainly of established hits. I am all for this concept, hell, one of my favorite albums is Starsetās Vessels 2.0 album, which consists of acoustic versions of many of their songs and a few newbies thrown in. So if I enjoyed that, then why didnāt I enjoy Aurora as much?
Well, other then āFar Awayā, there wasnāt a whole lot of new material. Iām not talking about new songs, but new material in reimagined compositions. The way the old songs were treated, other then the ones that featured new and very talented artists, was kind of lackluster. I wouldnt call any of it bad, but lazy. I hoped to hear new recordings and not just remixes, which personally I donāt think are very good; they sound almost muted? The definite saving grace of this album is āFar Away,ā which is a great piece featuring Scooter Ward, and the songs featuring artists such as Adam Gontier, Lacey Sturm, and Michael Barnes. This isnāt to say I donāt like Benās vocals (Obviously I do!) itās just I know he could have totally rocked some of those songs in cleverer and newer arrangements.
Overall, Iām a bit disappointed but that doesnāt derail me from loving and supporting this band. Keep in mind that this is solely my opinion, but let me know what you think!

Benjamin Burnley is a gooddamn gift and I love him so much. I went to see Breaking Benjamin recently and let me tell you, I cried like 3 times.
-Benjamin genuinely was surprised how big the crowd was, even after all these years. At one point he cried and wiped his eyes while talking to the crowd. He thanked us for waiting in the 105 degree heat for them all day.
-About three songs into their set, he went down in the pit and hand picked several cute kids and their families/guardians to go up to the VIP section on stage. He instructed his stage hands to help everyone up safely over the equipment crates. Like??? So thoughtful and sweet!!! It was adorable. He asked the kids if they were having a good time, and made sure they had earplugs to protect their hearing šš MY HEART.
-Benjamin walked through the crowd in the pit singing Rain and touching everyoneās hands with a couple body guards. A lot of people were crying on the close up screens.
-A woman had a sign that said āMy husband couldnāt be here because he is deployedā and Benjamin climbed down to get to her, asking for a marker from his stage hand, Yoshi. He signed the womanās poster and asked for her phone. He recorded a video to the man, Shaun, saying the he wished he was here too and thanking him for his service. Shaunās wife was bawling and he gave her a hug over the barrier. It was a beautiful moment.
-He joked while the lights were off that heās a huge nerd who loves comics, video games, and Star Wars, then the lights came up to reveal him behind a drum set with lightsabers sticking out of it. They then launched into the Imperial March. He also blended that into some Metallica and Nirvana covers.
In conclusion, Ben Burnley is a wonderful human being and it was one of the best shows Iāve ever been to. Bless that man, heās so pure and should be protected š
