Stress and exhaustion lead you astray as you and Connor are both thrust into a war between the mind and the heart. You can only hope everyone involved makes it out alive.
IMPORTANT A/N: This is a repost of a DBH fic I started over a year ago in response to a challenge a friend of mine posted up, at the time. I’ve also gone through and edited/cleaned up each chapter for a better reading experience! I’ll be posting a chapter or two every day until I’ve posted all current chapters, and then I’ll be updating with a brand new chapter for the first time in nearly a year!
Inspired by the song Torn In Two by Breaking Benjamin.

Chapter 5 - Is This the Way It’s Gotta Be?
The DPD, unsurprisingly, was rather quiet, save for the few night officers who came and went from time to time, rotating like clockwork. Stella was rotating in, having already returned from the crime scene and taking up her designated desk to file a report. You would have greeted her, but you felt completely worn out from everything the night had thrown at you.
As it was, you were on the fast track to passing out in Connor's desk chair while waiting for him to return from wherever it was he had disappeared to, head leaning against a propped up arm and eyes fighting to stay open. Hank was pacing anxiously as he stewed in his own thoughts, and watching him move back and forth like that was making you feel dizzy, even more nauseous then what you had been for most of the night. Your stomach grumbled in agreement to your thoughts, though it was a wonder you had anything left in your system, considering what had happened earlier.
Suddenly, you were struck with an odd thought. When was the last time you had eaten, exactly?

It wasn’t long before Motley Crue was filling up the clubs with fans and music scouts were coming around. Sierra went to each of the clubs watching them play. Nikki would still look out trying to find her in the crowd and wink at her. It was a tradition at this point.
Tommy was doing the same in searching her out but would blow her a kiss. Which Sierra found utterly adorable. Yet, she still watched Nikki performing more than Tommy.
Vince would be calling most of the attention to himself by dancing to his singing and flirting a bit with the girls in the crowd. While Mick was the more subdued one, he still knew how to put on a show for the crowd.
She had gotten to where she wouldn’t fight to get to the front of the crowd all the time. While she liked being close to watch them, the crowd could be too much at times in a sense of getting knocked around and shoved when others wanted to be up at the front.
Nikki would still find her in the back of the room. She wondered if he just searched her out in the crowd, fearing that she would leave him. That thought scared and saddened her to the point she had to shove it aside.
She went to the bar that they started hanging out at after the shows. It made it easy for the scouts to find them, and it was more in the band’s environment that they seemed to be comfortable in.
The guys were hanging around their normal table when she showed up. Mick was sitting at one edge of the booth and Vince at the other. Mick noticed her first and stood up, letting her slide in next to Nikki who was smiling at her from the moment he saw her.
“Sierra, finally,” Nikki said. He was slightly drunk already. He threw an arm around her shoulders and pulled her into his side.
Tommy smiled at her and looked away. After that party, neither of them had talked about what they did. She had been avoiding it around Nikki, but she was having a hard time getting Tommy alone to see how he felt and where to go from there.
“Hi,” a unfamiliar voice said, dragging her out of her thoughts. “I’m Tom.”
He started talking about wanting to sign them for a contract. He moved to sit next to Vince, and almost as soon as he sat down. He jumped right back up. Then a girl climbed out from under the table.
“Not your style?” she asked.
“No,” he said, shaking his head.
“You’re loss then,” she said, moving back under the table.
Sierra had been shocked by that. Though she had heard the rumors of it from other people, she had never been around when they had that girl around.
He started going into details of the record deal he wanted to cut them while Nikki threw an arm around Sierra’s shoulders. He pulled her in tight, and whispered in her ear, “Hey, doll.”
He had started doing this whenever he had the chance and when she had assumed that he needed to make sure things were real. Sierra had a feeling that Nikki couldn’t believe the crowds that were coming to the clubs and the amount of attention they were getting from the scouts.
“Am I boring you?” Tom asked, annoyed.
Nikki shook his head, glaring at the guy for a second. He still hadn’t pulled away from her. He planted a soft kiss on her cheek and then went back to focusing on Tom.
“Well, it seems like I am,” Tom argued.
“Nah, Nikki here just has to be sweet on Sierra whenever she is around,” Vince said. “Tommy does the same.”
“So what is she the motley lady or something?” Tom asked.
“Something like that. She takes care of us better than ourselves, and she has never asked for anything in return from us,” Mick replied. The way he talked seemed to suggest he would gladly fight for Sierra’s honor.
“Well, anyways, do you want to make a deal?” Tom asked, going back to the topic at hand.
“Uh,” Nikki said, pretending to think. Then he reaches over, grabbed Tommy’s hair, and proceeds to knock Tommy’s head on the table. “Yeah, we are in.”
Sierra watched a little bewildered at Nikki’s actions, but Tommy seemed to shake it off and was laughing. She felt like she was going to go crazy from these guys. She glanced over at Mick, and he just shrugged.
After awhile she got up to get freshened up, the place was warm which could be the alcohol in her system or from sitting between Nikki and Mick for the past forty minutes. When Sierra came back, Nikki had his arms around the back of his head and a look of pleasure written all over his face. She wanted to scream in frustration.
Sierra couldn’t believe that he had been sweet to her earlier and was now getting his dick sucked under the table with people around. What confused her the most was the fact that she couldn’t understand why she expected so much from Nikki. He spent most of his time with girls hanging off of him.
Sierra turned on her heels and went to the bar, deciding that it was better to ignore it. Tommy was there at the bar, trying to get the bartender’s attention who was on the other end flirting with the two girls.
“I think we are gonna be here for awhile, Tommy,” she said, causing him to jump on his bar stool.
“Love, you are too sneaky,” he said, smiling at her. He easily wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her in tight to his side.
“Sorry. Didn’t mean to scare you,” she said, leaning into him.
At least, he didn’t seem awkward around her. He just smiled and kissed her cheek. “You’re a nice surprise, so no worries,” he teased. “So what do you want to drink?”
***
Sierra spent the rest of the time avoiding Nikki. She knew that she shouldn’t be jealous, but it left a sour taste in her mouth when she thought of him with other girls and felt even worse seeing him with one. Tommy, on the other hand, was completely focused on her the entire time. He seemed captivated by her words.
When she was ready to go, she went to say her goodbyes. She couldn’t find Nikki and didn’t really have to guess where he was. She hugged Mick and Vince and went to do the same to Tommy.
“Hey, let me walk you home,” he offered.
“You sure?” Sierra asked, not wanting to put him out of his way.
“I don’t want anything to happen to you, pretty lady,” he said, linking their arms together. She smiled and followed him out of the bar.
She glanced at Mick when she passed by him. He gave her a quizzical look but didn’t look like he was going to say anything at the moment. In all honesty, she knew that he would say something about this to her and keep his mouth shut to the rest of them. It was what she had come to love about the guitarist.
“So why have you been avoiding me?” Tommy asked once they were outside of the bar.
“Wasn’t meaning to be,” she replied.
Tommy looked at her and said, “Are you sure? Because this is the first time that we have been alone since the party. Do you regret being with me that night?”
She stopped in her tracks and looked at him. “No, it’s not that. I’m just confused, and I don’t want you to think that I was using you. It doesn’t help that I don’t know just how you feel about me,” she said. “You go from flirting with one girl, then to flirting with me, and then back to flirting with someone else. It’s hard to keep up with.”
Tommy looked down at her and smiled a little. “So you actually like me?” he asked.
“Yes, I do,” she replied back as she looked down. “But I don’t know what you feel.”
Tommy grabbed her chin and looked at her in the eyes. “Babe, I think I could just fall in love with you,” he said before leaning in and kissing her.
Sierra was a little shocked, but she didn’t take long to kiss him back. She wrapped her arms around his neck and held him close as he grabbed onto her waist and held her tightly against him. Tommy licked her lips, and he was in her mouth tasting her in a matter of seconds.
They only pulled apart because they needed to breath. Tommy smiled down at her and said, “So do we have that settled?”
Sierra nodded. “Take me home, love,” she said, smiling at him
