He ducked his head, glancing up with a roll of his eyes before he pulled off his cap with a huff. “If glasses work for Clark Kent…” he trailed off, leaning back in his seat and smiling at Blaze. It was nice to see a familiar face, one who still saw him just as Matt and probably always would. She had always kept him level headed and was the main thing that kept his head from expanding to an unreasonable size when his fame was first growing. He owed her, honestly.
“Why is it that every time we run into each other you do nothing but make fun of me, huh? Am I just an easy target? Is it the puppy-dog eyes?” He laughed, pushing the chair across from him out enough for her to sit down. “God, no. Three movies were more than enough to last me the rest of my life. I still can’t believe I agreed to them in the first place.” He rolled his eyes. He had never really been comfortable in front of cameras, unless he was on stage. Hiding behind a microphone stand and his bass gave him confidence he rarely felt otherwise. “You know I’m actually glad you ran into me. I’ve been-” he paused, leaning in and glancing around to make sure no one else was paying the any mind, “I’ve been working on a new song, something for the new album. It’s filthy, heavy, nothing like we’ve ever done before,” he leaned back, “I’m completely stuck on the bass line.”
“ yeah well … i hate to break it to you , rifty , you’re no clark kent. the only world’s you’re rockin’ are teeny boppers’ in heat –– and mine at one point many moons ago , but i would hardly say it was rockin’. ” she teased , the jab coming with great ease. the past was the past , their absolutely blindsiding ‘ relationship ’ still a shock that press still haven’t quite managed to shake off even after all these years. she would admit –– it was an unlikely pairing , a clash of personalities that would make for quite a comical movie. perhaps a screenwriter years in the future would dig up the dirt to tell the tale , an ’inspired by true events’ box office hit. “ wow , you’re finally catching on. ” she grinned , shrugging her shoulders as shook took a few strides backwards. at first the encounter seemed to be a priority , but the small rumble that gradually built up in her stomach spoke for itself. in the midst of accepting his defeat , she took the window of self-reflection to approach the counter.
wasn’t long before she was tossing the small tray down on the table , ankle hooking around the chair to jut it out just a bit more before sliding on in across from him. she couldn’t have reached for a fry any faster , just the perfect crunch. it was always the damn hole-in-the-walls that served the best food. she’d choose it over a michelin star any day. “ filthy , you say ? ” brows raise. “ did i hear that right ? mathais cooley ,” she made sure to keep her qualms to a dull roar, “ the rift , going x-rated ? i never thought i’d see the day. ” thumbs rubbed against fingertips in an attempt to rid the grease from her hands before she leaned in. “ –– fuck a bass line , man. do you have any lyrics yet ? i mean , are they done , complete ? wait ... did you talk it over with the guys yet , what do they think ? ”
