I'm honestly so relieved the S4 8flix scripts were fake because when I read the Dear Billy "cool, cool" scene, I couldn't help but think "yikes!" Not about potential byler implications or anything, but just the non-dialogue writing… was… not good. It made me wonder whether we should put so much faith in the writing in the first place.
I mean we all noticed it and tried to rationalize I think, but "not just listening, but hearing" makes absolutely no sense.
And maybe this is just me but "dry as a California summer" is not only so corny, it also makes no sense. Speechless would be one thing, but if I put myself in Will's shoes in that moment I would be overproducing saliva.. salivating at the thought of my desires being fulfilled! Not at all dry lol.
It was the small things too, like "Mike drops the luggage, and then sits on the edge of a bed." This is an unnatural sentence. It's as if it were written by someone in a rush or someone inexperienced. The "and" is superfluous. The natural sentence would be "Mike drops the luggage, then sits on the edge of a bed" (or replace "then" with "and" and remove the comma).
Plus that script was supposedly the third revision, and you're telling me nobody noticed that Mike says "Mike and Lucas and Dustin" instead of "Max and Lucas and Dustin?"
I didn't call it out at the time, but I did think these things. Anyway, I guess hindsight is 20/20. Sorry if this is moot or if I'm being too persnickety. At least my doubts about the writing quality are diminished (for now).*
*Although Will's line "without heart, we'd all fall apart" still pains my ears. I mean, rhyming, really?!?!
