Sam and Jack were obviously sleeping. It was clearly the middle of the night. They legit stole that time. Those cute little fuckers snuck off and hid behind some books just to be alone.

They were keeping their voices down and having a little "fireside chat" in their library with the lights dimmed. Dean was having his favorite drink. He shared it with Cas instead of just pouring himself a glass. Cas can't even feel the effects of alcohol, but he drinks from his glass anyway because "he always enjoys their talks and their time together" (s9e03). While it does very little for him, he "appreciates the gesture". (s12e10)

Dean was reaching over to touch Cas's hands, blushing, laughing, teasing him, smiling. He's never really this sweet around Cas when Sam is there. There's different energy to them when they steal moments like this. Throughout the years, we would see them run off together to the kitchen or the hallway. Sometimes, they would even step out of the car. We can see Dean being really goddamn glad to be alone with Castiel. And, the ever stone-faced angel is grinning and smiling through the whole scene, just soaking up all that sweet warm kindness from the love of his life.

The two had been fighting for weeks, and then we got blessed with this scene after they made up. It was almost like... not only did they stop fighting. Dean and Cas were now blissfully happy people. Despite how bad things were getting around them, they could handle it because they made up and could finally spend time alone.

They literally never stopped smiling and blushing and complimenting each other. The whole scene was tender from start to finish. It was so intimate and romantically charged. Look at Cas 😭😭 having the best night ever 😭😭 with his boyfriend 😭😭 look at HOW CUTE HE IS!!!

HAPPINESS IS IN THE HAVING.

part of me thinks cas knew what dean was going to say in purgatory, but he didn’t let him because if dean said it out loud than cas would experience that moment of true happiness and get snatched right then and there

okay but running with this idea, "the one thing i want, i know i cant have" doesn't mean cas thinks dean doesnt love him but rather he believes their lives will always be too complicated, too steeped in tragedy for them to be together. there would always be monsters and death and cosmic beings to deal with. there would never be a time or a place for them. they both knew how the other felt but couldn't address it because then they would have to deal with it, and they just never had the time. so they danced around each other for years; exchanging stolen glances, letting their fingers brush thinking, it was the best they would ever get because they would never be able to have each other and as a result would never truly he happy

the fact that they not only killed dean off early in the episode but did it in the way that completely contrasts his character arc and development. he always thought he'd go down swinging and that's exactly why he shouldn't have, because the blaze of glory speech was always a defense to hide his fear, because he shouldn't have to cater to his father's ideas, because the whole point of the season was defying destiny and yet here he is, fulfilling the one event he always believed he was destined for.

He even fucking SAYS THIS IS HOW HE WAS SUPPOSED TO DIE when the whole FUCKING POINT OF THE SEASON claimed to be THE OPPOSITE OF THAT. The writers truly went “haha ok chuck’s dead but these characters are still our puppets they will dance how we please.”

they give dean the epiphany he has always needed, finally make him see that he is good and pure and not a killing machine and is worth more than that. and then they did.....that, making it effectively worthless. fuck you supernatural. dean winchester belonged to a better show than this.
