Me: I really want these books
Person: Why don’t just buy them instead of talking about them?
Me:
Your worst battle is between what you know and what you feel.

Reading can be a time-consuming hobby.
‘Some light reading’ quickly becomes 'just one more chapter’, and before you know it, it’s 3.30 am and your eyes are dry because you’ve been squinting at tiny black letters in poor lighting for way too long.
Eilo had been guilty of 'just one more chapter’ ever since she was a small child and had had bedtime stories read to her, but it got worse when she got old enough to actually read herself.
History books were her favorite; learning about different alien species and their cultures was deeply fascinating to Eilo and a major reason of why she wanted to leave the colony and experience it all first-hand. Realistically she knew it would never happen and instead she turned to books and the extranet. It worked at first, satiating her curiosity ever so slightly as she swallowed whole books in one sitting, but it was never quite… Enough.
By the time she was well into her teens her parents had tried almost everything to limit reading before bedtime because it “seemed to interfere with her sleep schedule”, but Eilo had been stubborn and her parents had eventually caved.
What kind of parents wants to argue with their child over too much reading anyway?
So much time you can bathe in it, roll around it, let it slide like coins through you fingers. So much time you can waste it. But for some of us there’s only today. And the truth is, you never really know.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead; I lift my lids and all is born again. (I think I made you up inside my head.) The stars go waltzing out in blue and red, And arbitrary blackness gallops in: I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead. I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane. (I think I made you up inside my head.) God topples from the sky, hell’s fires fade: Exit seraphim and Satan’s men: I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead. I fancied you’d return the way you said, But I grow old and I forget your name. (I think I made you up inside my head.) I should have loved a thunderbird instead; At least when spring comes they roar back again. I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead. (I think I made you up inside my head.)
Sylvia Plath, “Mad Girl’s Love Song” (via theliteraryluggage)
I remember in art therapy a few months ago, I drew lots of pretty flowers and then a weed. I was the weed and everyone else was a flower. It showed how I can see beauty in everyone else, but not myself; and how I feel that I’m an inconvenience to everyone and the metaphorical ‘garden’ would be better without me. The nurse turned around and said ‘a weed is a flower. And it is just as beautiful. Different is beautiful, and you are beautiful’
And then I’ll tell you about how every once in a while the Moon would join the Sun. Gods be dammed they could not keep her from her true love. Throwing the world into a sunless day for the briefest of moments. Their kiss was not private but whomever looked for to long upon their union was dammed. Dammed to lose their sight much as the Sun and Moon lost sight of each other every sunrise and sunset. As crimson ripples adorned the Moon’s ivory facade, a ebony halo glistening around her, she smiled sadly. Time waited for no one. So she dragged herself away from her Sun’s warm embrace counting the seconds like grains of sand falling from the hourglass till they joined as one once again.
