Maybe this is the result of me finally accepting that I'll be alone forever/That I deserve forgetting It's a pointless endeavor, and maybe it's upsetting/But I've never felt more comfortable in the concept with things ending

Well, the tiniest little dot caught my eye and it turned out to be a scab/And I had this funny feeling like I just knew it's something bad/I just couldn't leave it alone, I kept picking at that scab/It was a doorway trying to seal itself shut, but I climbed through/Now I'm somewhere I am not supposed to be/And I can see things I know I really shouldn't see/And now I know why, now I know/Why things aren't as pretty on the inside.

when you read a fic that's so good and fun and a bright spot on a really difficult day and you hold on to it throughout, the promise of finishing it carrying you through

and then the resolution just falls so flat and feels so out of character that you just feel utterly betrayed and let down, and so alone because everyone else seems to see absolutely nothing wrong with it

The crowd all parting to let it through and Mb thinks it must be its angry face and not the fact that everyone just heard its going off to protect them

When passengers spot it in the water and work together to pull it aboard

Random humans recognizing its heroism and working to help it

They hear its kid? say "They will kill you" they hear its wife? ask if it's "going to do the thing." It has a past the kids don't know about. It's going to protect everyone or die trying. Its going to buy its family time to get away. You know every human on that boat was relieved when it made it back aboard.

I'm imagining like. space-youtube video essays but about various Incidents. murderbot is mostly pretty good at avoiding being clocked as a secunit (like. most of the time. when shit hits the fan it's not really... well. it's pretty hard to keep people safe AND keep pretending to be a human)

but would its deception hold up against the sci-fi equivalent of hbomberguy who initially was making a much smaller scale video but then kept piecing things together.....

can you imagine how much stir a video pointing out "hey I think all of these incidents are the same construct. y'know. the rogue one" would get if it was mysteriously deleted. the drama. someone would obviously point out that the guy who made the video could have deleted it himself to make it look legitimate and that would just make it worse. it's awesome

honestly? abandoned/on indefinite hiatus/very slow to update fics, even and especially AUs and longfics, are often some of my absolute favorites. and people who refuse to read them are missing out!

for one, stories don’t have to be finished to be enjoyable and worth reading. but also? an unfinished fic is a whole little universe that just keeps on existing in my head! their world stays alive for me in a way that doesn’t always happen with fics I binge read and finish, and i love it. i don’t know how their story ends, so it just keeps going! and even when those stories DO update and finish years later, they’ve been in my head for so long that they stick around like old friends.

so to any author with unfinished works: thank you SO much for sharing what you had without waiting to finish it first. you’re just giving me the gift of getting to spend more time with your story and your idea. if you do update again someday, i’ll be delighted to jump back in! but if you don’t, just know a little piece of your world still lives on in a beloved tiny terrarium in my brain. i promise i’m taking good care of it :)
