I'm a newtmas shipper, but why is it in every fanfic where the author wants Newt to be in an abusive relationship pre-newtmas, it's always Alby? Alby has always had a soft spot for Newt, whether people see that as romantic or platonic, and he only acted rashly at newt when he just recovered from the changing. Like, am I the only one who thinks this is kinda racially motivated? Or did I miss something from the book?

Something I’ve just thought of: what if the griever sting is what made Thomas immune?

Realistically, he couldn’t have been immune before the maze since WCKD surely would have run tests on them, including blood tests. And Brenda is cured at the end of the Scorch Trials, meaning something between then and coming up into the maze is what made Thomas immune.

The griever sting is very similar to the flare, even visually when you compare Ben’s sting to Newt’s flare. However, not being given the serum means the infected doesn’t survive it / loses their sanity. This could be because they’re 1) not immune, or 2) the sting isn’t actually the flare but a simulation of the effects to map out how the immune’s systems react to it and what makes them immune.

Taking 2 into consideration, Thomas is stung but treated with the serum, meaning he experienced the symptoms of the flare before being quickly treated. My theory is this created a sort of vaccine effect in him, his body being shown how to attack the flare and thus producing its own method: the cure.

i see so many people defending teresa and saying “oh she’s just misunderstood”

no.

she’s not.

she went into the maze with all of her memories, and while i understand her ‘do anything for the cure’ mindset, she had so much time to see that WICKED was wrong and that, like thomas said in the Fever Cure, it would never end.

she had so much time, especially when the gladers started being taken one by one at night towards the end of the Maze Trials, that was the point that started to solidify for me that WICKED was bad. originally, no one was supposed to die. when the first glader died in the maze, it was a freak accident.

also, in the fever cure, chuck was basically Thomas and Teresa’s little brother and one of their best friends. Teresa originally went along with Thomas’s plan to go into the maze with their memories intact for Chuck and their other friends, but mainly Chuck. she had to have realized along the way that WICKED was wrong, but she continued to lead her friends into death and Crank territory, knowing Newt wasn’t immune.

so, in summary, Teresa is evil. she is not misunderstood

this might be a bit controversial or maybe it is just me, but i feel like modern gally is not the type of person who becomes reckless or aggressive when he drinks. he actually seems like the kind of person who would stay composed and end up taking care of everyone once things get messy. like, he would be the one making sure people get home safe or stopping things before they go too far. meanwhile, i feel like minho would be the opposite. he seems like the type who gets more playful and a little chaotic when he drinks, not in a bad way, just more teasing, and harder to control. he already has that naturally energetic and bold personality, so it makes sense that it would show even more when he is not holding back

it also matches how they are in the maze runner. gally is very strict and rule oriented, always focused on order and safety, even if it makes him come off as harsh. he believes rules exist for a reason and sticks to them no matter what. minho, on the other hand, is more of a risk taker. he is brave, quick to act, and not afraid to bend the rules if it means getting results, especially when running the maze. so in a modern setting, it kind of makes sense that gally would stay responsible even when drinking, while minho would be the one getting more chaotic and playful.

something i noticed about gally in the death cure:

thomas used guns. newt used guns. all with lethal bullets.

gally used tasers. non lethal weapons.

he never used a gun, only when he was holding it against the guard’s neck when they were inside of wckd and when he first found newt, thomas, frypan, brenda, and jorge.

gally held guns, yes. had guns in his waist belt, yes.

but he never actually fired one.

is this because last time he held a gun in his hands, chuck died?
