Loveday was born in the spring of 1538 to Robert and Margaret Killigrew. As a child Loveday was well behaved and the people in her town loved her. She was known for her kindness and her gentle ways. Loveday loved nature and enjoyed being outdoors whenever she could.
Her parents owned an apothecary which is where Loveday’s intensive knowledge of plants and herbs came from. Although it was rare and frowned upon at that time, Loveday’s father taught her the basics of reading and writing so she could help him at the apothecary. Loveday had a natural gift of working with plants and any other materials that were used to make medicine. She would often experiment, mixing new things together and most if not all the time, her experiments came out successful. Her father’s apothecary thrived thanks to Loveday. People came from all around to buy his medicine for all sorts of maladies both human and animal.
In 1556, when she was 18 years old, Loveday’s parents arranged her to be married to Henry Fitzwilliam. His father was a physician and had been friends with Loveday’s father for many years. Although it was an arranged marriage, Loveday and Henry soon fell in love with each other after they were married. Henry became a physician like his father which led to them living a somewhat luxurious lifestyle.
About a year into their marriage, Loveday gave birth to a son who they named Christopher. Christopher became the light of Loveday’s life. She spent every moment that she could with him, teaching him all she knew. When Christopher was seven years old he became very ill. Nothing Henry did helped so they hired all the best doctors in the area. But they couldn’t do anything either and Christopher only became sicker. This caused Loveday to become frantic to save her son. She tried every remedy she had used before but nothing worked. She then began experimenting again. She spent hours everyday mixing together ingredients, hoping to find something to help Christopher. Unfortunately just after his eighth birthday, Christopher passed away.
After her son’s death, Loveday was inconsolable. She locked herself away for days refusing to eat or sleep. Her husband tried to help her but nothing could bring her out of this depression. At some point during this time, Henry began seeing another woman having fallen out of love with his wife. Rumors began going around the town about Loveday’s behavior both before and after Christopher died. These rumors accused her of being a witch. Witch huntings were spreading all throughout Europe and many women were being killed but Henry did nothing to protect his wife even going as far as testifying against her when she was finally brought to trial.
Loveday was tortured for three days during her trial. She was whipped and beaten all while being told to renounce the devil and confess of her sins. Loveday of course did not as she had done nothing wrong. Even though it could possibly save her life, she did not care. After three days, Loveday was found guilty and was burned at the stake. As she was being burned, Loveday cried out for her son as well as shouting her hatred for her husband who had betrayed her.
Loveday wasn’t quite sure what had happened after that. All she remembered was waking up in dim room, a man with pitch black eyes sitting across from her. She came to learn his name was Nathaniel and he was a demon who had resurrected her. He told her that she had great potential and she had died before she could reach it. Loveday spent the next several years with Nathaniel learning all he had to teach her. They worked in secret and soon Loveday became even more powerful than Nathaniel had anticipated. Not only were her powers greater than before, since her death Loveday’s whole personality had changed. She was no longer the kind and loving young woman she had once been. Now she was filled with rage, hatred clouding her mind and blackening her heart.
Loveday and Nathaniel eventually went their separate ways. They had never been anything but lovers, a way to release tension in their lives. They spoke only a handful of times as the years passed before losing communication all together. Loveday keeps mostly to herself, knowing that no one can hurt her, if there’s no one even there. She still mourns the loss of her son and searches endlessly for a way to be with him again.
