Random ass WOF AU idea I had a while ago but forgot about:
Also I haven’t read the books in like 3 years and I haven’t thought about this AU in 2 soooo I might’ve forgotten stuff, or stuff is blatantly wrong
As background info for this, in the books, Arc 2 (Spoilers) Moon has her silly mind reading powers right? That’s all fine and dandy, her mind reading powers (and as a lil extra, her intelligence) come with the fact that she is autistic AF and cannot interact with anyone, also she is scared of coming off badly. And then Qibli comes out of nowhere and suddenly that entire flaw is mitigated by the fact that: he is so good at reading people he can just know what Moon is thinking about without needing mind powers so they can communicate seamlessly? He just has: infinite charisma and is also apparently really quick witted as well. I mean, yeah sure that’s a character that is possible but why was Moon set up for all her flaws to be remedied by a superficial relationship where they understand each other personally instantly?
Or I guess, alternate, less flashy title: Qibli -the social skills. His background is as a thief right? Growing up in the uhhh Scorpion Den? I think that’sn what it was called. Anyway, in canon, he learns social skills there that make him very likeable. What if: instead of developing a strong moral compass and really good logic, he develops people pleasing skills? After getting kicked out by his mom, he internalizes that in order to protect himself, he needs to be seen as likeable. He learns that he must be presentable, and charming, and not be able to be seen while pickpocketing someone out of all their shit. He also learns to act fast, (I wanna keep him quick-witted cus that’s a fun part of his personality, but he will unfortunately have very little wit by the time I’m done with him) Also, as an additional thing, all of his people reading stuff is gone, replaced with “How do I get this dragon to like me?” He can sure laugh with someone, and hold an entertaining conversation, but he’ll have no clue what the motives of the person next to him is, because that is less important to him, than not being hurt again in the same way he was before.
I want him to be able to make friends hella easily, and be able to convince people easily, but he is pretty short sighted and makes mistakes easily, which he needs to think fast to solve (Even if his solution might not be correct)
What does this accomplish?
Moon and Qibli now has to figure out how to communicate with each other outside of Moon’s powers instantly. Qibli has to work on himself internally, and his parental abuse trauma has more weight. (I forgor his foster family maybe 2 years ago me had a better grasp of that, uhhhh I’m choosing to ignore it right now because I have forgotten everything about it. Whoops. Maybe he doesn’t find a family? What if he scraps by himself? What if he got booted from the Scorpion Den from too much bad blood and came over here to Jade to start fresh?) Now, Moonwatcher’s flaws still exist, and get amplified by the fact that Qibli has flaws too now, so both of them need to fix them together. Moonwatcher is the book-smarts to Qibli’s street-smarts ✨
Also, this makes an entertaining as hell scenario where someone wants to kill Qibli or rob him or something, and he’s chatting them up like a good friend while Moon tries to figure out how to let her dumbass friend in on the fact that they want him DEAD.
I imagine the way they meet is Qibli goes up to Moon and chats her up while he’s blatantly thinking of pickpocketing her and then she’s like “Wait what are you gonna pickpocket me?” And then he goes into like 8 different shades of what the fuck and instantly wants to become friends with her because she has sick awesome powers, and she basically gets introvert adopted by an extrovert-ed.
