Iâm always a sucker for some good gang vocals, and the end of this track explodes with them. Particularly drawn to one of the vocal takes thatâs higher and sounds detuned (itâs in the first chorus as well), which adds a lot to the emotion and uncertainty of the song. Little details make all the difference.

The beats on here pulse with energy, as if theyâre in sync and breathing with the vocals, which paint pictures of relationships and the intimate moments they hold.

I canât help but be reminded of SZAâs early projects when listening to this. Thereâs a particular honesty and vulnerability in the lyrics that wouldnât be possible without the overthinking this project is named after.

While both are obviously very talented and accomplished producers, I personally find James Blake to have a much more interesting and versatile sound than FINNEAS, especially when it comes to their respective solo releases. That makes it all the more interesting (and funny, which was probably the point) that Blake would even compare himself or get jealous at all.

The fact that this feels fresh today in terms of whatâs coming out in hyperpop and adjacent music, while also sounding like it could fit right into either of Sleigh Bellsâ albums from 2010 or 2012 just proves they were ahead of their time.
