“Is there anything interesting then? I don’t remember you talking about something incredibly relevant from that year,” Koschei shrugged, ignoring what Theta had said about him disliking humans. It seemed like his friend would never understand-- it’s not that he didn’t like them, he simply wasn’t as fond of them as the blond was. “What did you do? Did you bring any sort of souvenir?”

Theta stared at Koschei for a long moment. A sigh escaped his lips as he closed his eyes, laying back. He let the silence be there for a moment, unsure of hat to say. “You know, I really try not to though.”

“I’ve known you forever, Thete. That’s why.” Whatever annoyance his tone had since their conversation began was gone by now; he couldn’t stay mad at him for long over something so petty. “So, when did you go? I hope you didn’t get involved in anything, we’re not supposed to rewrite their history and you know that.” Not that any of them usually followed the rules.

The blond Gallifreyan chewed on his lip for a moment. He wasn’t sure what to say, though had he been gone for that long. He flopped on the bed. “How do you always know?”

“Where else would you have gone to?” He asked, only then his gaze leaving the book he had been reading until Theta arrived. Reading now would be impossible, and even he knew that. “The Lost Moon of Poosh?” He shook his head, pausing a second to sit up on his own bed. “Of course not. You’re just... predictable, sometimes.”

“Theta,” Koschei replied, his voice sounding more annoying than he had originally intended. He had been alone for who-knew-how-long, and he had gotten rather tired of waiting for him. “How was Earth?” He could be wrong, but Koschei didn’t care – to be fair, if Theta had traveled anywhere in time and space without him, he had probably visited that planet.

If he loves you, what does he prefer to do? He wants the title of the Doctor, or the Curator, correct? Why does he prefer to leave you by yourself for days, even weeks on end, rather than live up to his wanted title and take care of you? If he does truly love you, why does he prefer to help others, most of whom he's never even met before, other species, other worlds, instead of the one closest to him that needs his help the most?

Coming up with a response to that was incredibly hard, the drums and voices in his head giving him a pounding headache he could barely stand. Everything they said was true, or so it seemed at least. It wasn’t a secret that he needed Theta’s company frequently- he was sure he had told him several times, he just knew that he had explained that being around him made the drums lower, as if Theta drowned them out at least a bit.

And yet he still left, apparently not caring about anything that he had said. Maybe just to go on an adventure, or maybe to help people he didn’t know.

But he didn’t usually stay; even though he knew he needed him.

“Because he loves humans…” He sighed, shutting his eyes close as he ran a hand through his hair, not caring about the fact that he was pretty much talking to himself. He just wanted the drums to shut up, to stop tormenting him. He knew that everything they said was true- and he guessed that agreeing with them would make them calm down at least momentarily.

And I’m strong. I don’t need him. I can take care of myself.

I’m fine.

Just shut up and leave me alone.
