Penelope felt like she was seeing less and less people, being completely consumed by her, maybe silly, quest of trying to save Matthew from himself. Although all her relationships were based on lies, she did truly enjoy some of her friends’ company. Declan being one of them. When she saw him the first time, Penelope was sure he would be a face she barely remembered in a few years, a classic one night stand. But for some reasons they peeled the layers of who they were and found a likeness in each other’s. Meeting Declan for drinks was long overdue and the woman was looking up to it. Looking at her watch, she crossed the casino quickly, knowing full well she was fifteen minutes late. “I’m thw worst, but then again, in this heat, it’s possible to do anything quickly,” she said as she neared him.
It was not lost on Declan that he was seeing his childhood wishes happening, sitting at a casino bar, waiting for a beautiful woman to join him. However, the relationship was not what young Declan would have imagined. There was just something about Penelope that made him not want to push her away. Maybe it was the fact she was easy for him to talk to, and was not involved in his line of work that allowed him to enjoy her company. An unlikely friend, though a very welcome one. “That’s the thing about Vegas,” he started in reply, a grin stretching onto his face. “We always have a valid excuse.” Pulling her into a quick hug as a greeting, he gestured for her to sit down next to him. “Do you know how many people I’ve had to fend off to keep this seat open? Tourists sure get crabby when they gamble.”
