PRESCOTT FAMILY STATISTICS

1121 WASHINGTON AVENUE, CENDRE HOLLOW, LOUISIANA

A house bought by Declan and Margeaux after only scouting it once before their move, the 1.5 million dollar home was built in 1893 and is a Louisiana classic. The main building of the home is equipped with three bedrooms and four bathrooms, an additional two bedrooms and two bathrooms to be found in the carriage house behind the pool. The house was bought furnished through an interior design company and while Margeaux resides in the main house, Declan and Delta have their own space in the carriage home.

“Well Dec, I’m sure other stuff is out there. In Cendre, especially. This whole town is a front, and not a very good one T-B-H. Did you go to the historical showcase at the Founder’s Festival? Did you see the pictures? With the exception of the Dubois, everyone else looks exactly the same- and have the same names- as their ‘ancestors’.” Margeaux snorted in derision, not looking up from the paperwork she’d been looking over for work. “The puzzle pieces aren’t hard to put together. So if you want to go ahead and ask Delta’s principal if she eats goats and terrorizes the Mexican countryside in her spare time, that would really help out our awareness.”

“There’s vampires and shit?” Declan asked, not waiting for an answer before continuing, “Now there’s vampires and shit for real? As in one hundred percent confirmed? Do you know what that means?” The rambling was incessant and wouldn’t be stopping soon, told by the huffing in between his words as he took deeper breaths to speak.

“Not only do I have to protect Delta from tornadoes, floods, other natural disasters, school shootings, murder in general, billy goats, fake friends, financial woes, loneliness, food poisoning, hard drugs, Hurricane Katrina, pasta salad without feta cheese, the collapse of the economy, her tragic backstory, diabetes, feral dogs, North Korea, and disease, but I have to worry about Vampires and Bats and Leprechauns, too? Fff--”

“Can’t fix doll pieces with duct tape. Little girls don’t like that.” Theo pointed out after another moment of studying the pieces, several of which were broken and most of which were still disassembled. He’d never really had cause to be around children in his adult life, but for the last few weeks he’d been spending his whole days doing nothing but talk to kids. It had definitely taught him more about children than he had ever had cause to know before. Why did I pick ‘teacher’ for my fake career again? “Maybe superglue. Maybe. Doubtful.”

“Superglue is a lot of work too, with very little promise that it’ll actually pay off long term...” Declan mused aloud, as if he were actually weighing his options. “I think I’ll probably just shove these pieces back in here,” He said as he bent over and did just that, shoving the pieces of the kit back in its box haphazardly. “Take it home, let my sister open it for the first time,” He said around air quotes, “And be like oh my god, it’s broke, dude? when she tells me it is. And then I’ll return it.”

“That was absolutely fascinating. But I don’t understand why you’re telling me.”

“Because, Go...if mermaids actually exist--and we’ve got like, five years or whatever to figure out if they do or not--but if they do, other shit probably does too. And I don’t want to go out via Chupacabra. We need to be aware of this shit.”

“… Alright well that’s fucked. There’s no fixing that.” Theo muttered under his breath.

“Nothing that can’t be fixed with spit, buddy. And duct tape. I’ve got more spit than duct tape, though,” Declan said, staring down at the mess of dollhouse pieces he’d bought in a kit for Delta that he was obviously going to have to return now. “But I might need it later, so I guess you’re right.”
