This Week in Deep Ellum - Elm Street Tattoo Festival

This Friday is Friday the 13th, and that means that Oliver Peck and The Reverend Horton Heat are teaming up once again to host the Elm Street Tattoo Festival. The sheer number of bands - some of whom include Black Flag, Lucero, Ishi, Quaker City Nighthawks and Slobberbone - is astounding, and don't forget that $13 tattoos are available...as long as the number 13 is involved, that is. Elsewhere, Kettle Art opens up a new exhibit on Thursday featuring a variety of artistic media, and Pecan Lodge continues its live music programming on the patio. Fresh off recognizing Amanda Austin at #99, Deep Ellum's own Brandon Castillo becomes #98 on the Dallas Observer creatives list. Brandon founded the Deep Ellum Outdoor Market, and has recently opened Postal & Grocer, a full service postal center and corner grocery store, at Main and Hall. This Week in Deep Ellum - ArtCon takes over Life in Deep Ellum

This Saturday, Life in Deep Ellum hosts WRECKED by ArtCon. WRECKED will be the seed event for the annual fall show ArtCon X. 40+ artists will have items up for bid, and the event will feature live music to boot, so be sure to buy tickets (only $10 is quite the steal). Elsewhere, great music acts steal the scene, as Troy Cartwright serenades Adair's on Saturday, as does Somebody's Darling at Twilite. (Most Of) This Week in Deep Ellum - Pecan Lodge, Deep Ellum Windows, Sound Select and More

This week was so big it took us two extra days to compile everything! Well, that might not be completely true, but what is true is that the remainder of this week is absolutely packed with Deep Ellum events.

Friday is the day you've all been waiting for, as Pecan Lodge opens its doors for lunch and dinner service complete with live music and delicious food. They'll be open from here on out from Tuesday-Sunday for lunch, as well as Friday and Saturday dinner. In other BBQ news, on Sunday, Deep Ellum Brewing Co. is hosting their 4th Annual Brew B-Q featuring local music and live art. All proceeds benefit the Deep Ellum Community Association, so be sure to get tickets before they sell out. Speaking of DECA, TunnelVisions is having a closing party at Kettle Art an 2625 Main on Thursday. Meanwhile, also on Thursday is the RedBull Sound Select concert featuring Quaker City Night Hawks and Somebody's Darling, and Friday night features Paul Wall at Prophet Bar Main and the beginning of a 3 day festival at RBC. In addition, Saturday evening is the series finale, so to speak, of Deep Ellum Windows. We'll have more on this later, but be sure to check it out as they're going full boar for the last show.

After the unfortunate weather of the Deep Ellum Arts Festival, the Deep Ellum Community Association is unveiling the winners of the popular TunnelVision contest this Saturday at 2625 Main St (preceded by an event at Kettle Art on Thursday). Friday at Dada local artists and musicians Topic and Joonbug host a hip-hop extravaganza, and don't forget that this weekend is the monthly Deep Ellum Market on Saturday. For the design of the shop, Ayala teamed with Dallas creatives Ben Lewis (formerly of Neiman Marcus) and Caleb Kirkland who together collaborate under the banner of The Lost Angles, to present what they hope is a new way to both shop and interact with the community. From the music playing overhead to the wood-heavy design below, the plan is to promote all aspects of cultural significance in the shop. One way in which the shop expects to accomplish this is by hosting a rotation of works on its walls from area visual artists.

Kelly Wesner and Gabe Whatley own and operate the Fillmore Pub in Plano, where Voekel has been working as a manager. The three teamed up when they saw a little brick building with boarded up windows between Fair Park and Deep Ellum. Voekel says they hope that the Cold Beer Company will be open sometime this summer.
