Nurture
Our mothers nurtured us. We didn’t realize what they were doing. Kissing boo-boos and stroking our hair. They loved us unconditionally. We’re so fortunate to have experienced a mother’s unconditional, beautiful love. No boundaries just love.
Now, it’s a Sunday morning. The sun is peaking through the curtains. He’s asleep. His head on your chest. He’s peaceful, innocent, and unaware of your racing thoughts and growing heart.
You’re overcome with an odd feeling. That feeling you get when you hold a baby or a puppy licks you in the face. You’re unaware of just where this feeling is coming from but, it’s familiar. Then you realize, it comes from experience. The beautiful experience of a mother’s love.
You want to kiss his boo-boos and stroke his hair. You want to hang on to this moment, nurture his innocence, peace, and comfort. When he wakes, it will all be over. You’ll be reminded of the strong, independent man he is.
He’ll crawl out of bed. Go down stairs, start the coffee, make you breakfast and kiss you on the forehead. You’ll think of the feeling you had just moments before he woke. You’ll carry it with you and you’ll know that what you feel for him is love. Nothing more, nothing less. Pure, innocent, unconditional love.
