Ocean James Samuels was born on December 21
He has lived his entire life on the commune. While he's always known who his biological parents are, he had many parental figures in the commune. Likewise, he feels close to the younger members of the commune, thinking of them like siblings
When Ocean was 10, his parents were killed in an accident. Afterwards, Ocean was raised by the commune. The members are protective of all the children, and they banded together to provide for Ocean and take care of him
After his parents died, Ocean didn't really have one set house. He lived in various houses on the commune, though he was often with the Wozniak family
Although Ocean has known a huge, loving family his entire life (because that's what the commune members are, his family), losing his biological parents took a toll on him. Despite all the parental figures in his life, Ocean felt somewhat isolated and alone. Because he belonged to everyone, in a way he also felt like he belonged to no one, and that was something he had a hard time reconciling. How could he feel that way when the entire community loved him? Ocean felt ashamed for feeling this way and never told anyone, though the feeling never went away either
When Ocean was 21, he was selling produce from the commune in the town square when he met Grant. He came from a wealthy family in Shrike Heights, and he seemed sophisticated and worldly - everything Ocean felt like he himself was not. Sparks flew between them immediately, and soon Grant was coming to every market and talking to Ocean every time
A couple of months went by like this, and soon enough, Grant asked Ocean to go on a date with him, and that was the beginning of their relationship
In the beginning, the romance was wonderful. Ocean had never had a serious boyfriend before, but he felt boundlessly happy. Finally he felt like he truly belonged to someone, that feeling he'd been searching for his entire life, and he felt so lucky to have found Grant
Unfortunately, the relationship soon turned sour. Grant became overly critical of Ocean, which began slowly, a comment here, a comment there. Eventually though it was all the time, and it was like nothing Ocean could do was good enough. And worse, Grant had a temper. While he'd never hit Ocean, he'd grabbed him hard enough to leave bruises, and Ocean grew to be afraid of him
While this was going on, Ocean kept it from the people of the commune. Grant rarely interacted with them, and when he did, he turned on the charm. Grant was good with people, and he knew how to get them to like him. This was how Ocean realized that their initial interactions were all a way for Grant to manipulate him, and he felt very foolish
Ocean became quieter and more closed off, though he never talked about what was happening. He was embarrassed, and worse, he was afraid that if he told anyone and Grant found out that the consequences would be severe. So Ocean kept what was going on to himself
Eventually, once Ocean's self-esteem was totally shattered, he somehow gained the strength to fight back. He ended things with Grant, which was incredibly difficult. Grant tried to sweet talk him, and it nearly worked. But Ocean held out, and he thought about his parents and what they would want for him, and he knew it wasn't this. That gave him strength
Once things were over between him and Grant, Ocean stayed on the commune for awhile, not leaving even for the market for a couple of months. Eventually though, he began to venture out more, always on the lookout for Grant or one of his friends. Grant still lives in Shrike Heights, and Ocean is always afraid they'll run into each other, but he's tired of letting him run his life
Despite the relationship ending, Ocean had severe self-esteem issues. He's working on rebuilding his sense of worth, but it's been challenging. Now Ocean is the one who's critical of himself, about everything, from his intelligence to his personality to his appearance. He's constantly working out, and he's developed an eating disorder, though he refuses to call it that
Now Ocean takes classes at Shrike University, though he's not sure what kind of degree he wants to get, if any. Ocean paints in his free time, which began as a therapy exercise, and he's a gifted potter, which is sometimes the only thing that can get him out of his head when overwhelmed by the specter of his ex-boyfriend
Ocean works at Art Murmur. While he also continues working on the farm at the commune and selling produce and his pottery at the markets, he wants to experience more of the outside world, so he took a job at the art store to both meet new people and to try and regain some of his social skills

Ocean is an animal lover, taking care of all of the cats and dogs on the commune. He also volunteers at the animal shelter when he's able to
He tries not to think about his parents, but then sometimes he worries that he's forgetting them by keeping them out of his mind
Grant was Ocean's first real boyfriend, though he'd been with other people before on the commune. He thought he was polyamorous before Grant, but he didn't approve of it, so Ocean convinced himself that he wasn't. Now he's trying to figure out what he wants
Although painting and especially pottery are Ocean's main art forms, he's also familiar with a variety of other mediums such as sculpture, knitting, mosaics, and weaving
Ocean never swears. It makes him feel weird, but he doesn't mind if other people do
Even before his eating disorder and body image issues, Ocean worked out a lot. He runs every morning especially
Ocean feels very close to members of the commune, and he's loyal to his other friends as well. He usually he greets them with a hug
