someone replied "anyone who is afab, but doesn't exclusively identify as a woman"

I pointed out that that ignores people who are transneutral or otherwise not transmasc (i ignored the issues of using agab because i couldn't phrase it right and i was picking my battles in this comment section), and pointed out that not every nonbinary person is transmasc or transfem

they reply with a metaphor about transitioning being like a train and so transmasc is getting on the train going towards man but getting off before the end, and ended it with "transneutral doesnt exist because you wouldnt get on a train at all and just stay at the same spot, thats just being cisgender"

you can get on the train that goes from female to male and get off exactly half way. you can get off somewhere more towards the female side. you can get off somewhere more towards the male side.

wild idea: you can also go to the train station and get on a train that doesn't go towards male at all and goes in an entirely different direction instead.

binary trans people LOVE to bring up the "train/bus going from A to B and thus (certain kinds of) nonbinary people don't exist" metaphor with exactly zero knowledge of trains/buses.

frankly, i never really liked the term ‘alterhuman’.

imo it’s just so extremely vague. “an identity not typical of humanity” could mean literally anything; depression is atypical in humans, schizophrenia is atypical in humans, being xenogender is atypical in humans, aromanticism is atypical on humans, autism is atypical in humans. yet none of these count as alterhuman. why not?

other disorders like DID and other dissociative disorders are alterhuman since plurality is inherently included, according to the coiner. to say plurality is ‘typically unhuman’ but not other disorders or atypical identities seems… not only rude, but also arbitrary. how is it different?

i still use the term alterhuman when speaking broadly of the community. but it’s not a label i find any connection or relation to, because it doesn’t make much sense to me. i far prefer using “nonhuman” for myself, but even that is imperfect because it describes only what i am not rather than what i am. which is why “therian” will always be my favourite.

why do trans people acknowledge that this is a problem:

"woman is used to refer to any person who was born with a vagina and xx chromosomes. maybe you personally don't identify with the term, but definitionally speaking you are a woman."

but think that this is completely fine?

"transmasc is used to refer to any person who was born a woman and identifies as something other than that. maybe you personally don't identify with the term, but definitionally speaking you are transmasc."

for context: the second statement is the original statement to me pointing out that an issue also affects nonbinary people who are not trans men or transmasc. the first comment was edited by me to highlight how similar this rhetoric is to what TERFs say.

apart from the obviously limited and linear understanding of gender, there is such violence in being told "regardless of what you identify as, you are this". especially when you previously specifically said you are not this thing.

but since this is something that exclusively affects nonbinary people, it's a non-issue, because misgendering and erasing nonbinary people is totally okay. either assimilate into the gender binary at least a little bit to call yourself transmasc or transfem, or get out i guess.
