Hi, a question about DTE: I'm aware that humans and dragons can't understand each other because the dragons communicate in their own way, but can they still read the language that allowed them to communicate with Astrodude, or have they also lost the ability to read human language?

I'm asking because, hypothetically, what if a human puts two and two together, figures out their whole spiel, and tries to communicate with them? Or if they happen to find some human writing? (This definitely won't happen, but do you reckon they'll stumble across another friendly human, or not?)

I'm loving all your writing so far, both main fics have been an amazing read ♡ good luck with your studies :)

So, yeah, Earth can read because he's familiar with all human languages. The others not so much. I don’t think they even know how to read that much human stuff in orbit, let alone down here. They wouldn't be able to read a sign, but they can guess at pictures on them, I suppose

Friendly is a relative term when it comes to animals and humans. What might be a human acting with friendly intent could be misunderstood as cruelty, and vice versa

Random question but regarding your reaction fic series: how do you imagine Archer's voice sounding like? Do you have a overall idea/description or even a voice claim? Also do you have or plan to do a art of them in the future? I think we already got an overall idea of his appearence through the POV of other characters (they have three eyes and his face is covered in feathers i think?) but it would be cool to have a artistic expression too.

Also, sorry if i come across as pushy or demanding through this.

Please don't worry, I'm always happy to answer questions. I hope my previous post hasn't given that impression, I just can't really answer questions about when 'insert fic' will be done/updated.

Hmm, I'll say I never gave Archer much thought when I started the react fics, I usually find author-inserts in react fics rather annoying, so Archer's job was just to set things up and get out of the way lol. And, no fault to anyone else, 'cause I've definitely messed up somewhere, but Archer's supposed to be they/them exclusively 😅 (I'll need to reread to find out where I've fucked this up lol)

In terms of voice, I've always pictured it similar to the way computer voice readouts sometimes struggle to pronounce words or stress sentences properly. Not robotic, just very off-key and hard to follow for listeners. Eh, as a specific voice claim, maybe Imad Royal?

I'm currently separated from my watercolour and acrylic paints, so I gave colouring pencils a try for the first time since I was little, which went about as well as you'd expect lol

Also, eyes and feathers are, like, the two things I'm worst at drawing, so clearly I wasn't thinking this through when I designed Archer 😅

I promise I'm always working on whatever fic is my current focus, but I think I've mentioned enough why my update rate has slowed recently. I understand it's frustrating and I'm glad you guys are excited to read the next chapters, but I can't do much about it right now.

Trust me, I'm just as unhappy about my lack of freetime for writing :(

Left to right: Phobos (lower end of minor moons), Proteus (upper end of minor moons), Titania (average for major moons), Ganymede (upper end of major moons and lower end of rockies), Earth (upper end of rockies), Neptune (lower end of giants), Jupiter (largest of the giants).

The human for scale is around 5'7''

Fallow deer! Pretty guys of the deer world (imo). The favourite deer for deer parks and posh housing estates. And they come in so many colours!

If anyone's ever seen Fallow deer bucks during rutting season, I think you'll get why I picked this species for him. Also, they always either look majestic as hell or dumb as rocks lol

I think Fallow deer are certainly the most visually stunning deer, and that's also fitting for Ganymede considering his mythological origins. I'd put Europa as one too, because the does are equally stunning and delightfully colourful. Maybe I'll get around to doing her when I've worked out the other Galilean moons.

Omgomomdvdhdmsgk I keep rereading DTE and going feral over Triton, Deimos, and Earth’s chapters bro the way you describe everything like it’s so scrumptious and detailed and EVEN AFTER READING IT AND KNOWING WHAT HAPPENS IM STILL ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT!!! I love love love it so much ougdjfhfjdgxkxgsks im going insane

But! I had a question! I know you said you’re super busy with school stuff so this is no pressure at all, but is there any chance we would get a Footsteps chapter with Mimas after he got bit by the snake? I was so shocked during that moment and it’s one of the many moments I can’t stop thinking about lol. No worries if not, but I just wanted to pop in and say how much I adore your writing hehe

Aww, thank you! I'm glad you like it! I've definitely been enjoying getting the chance to describe more interesting stuff than the react fics usually let me play with.

I mean, if you don’t mind it being short, I can certainly have a go. Might help me get back into the writing mood for the weekend!

I've actually been trying to think of short ideas for Footsteps a lot recently, without much luck lol. Trying to find something that you guys might be interested in reading, that’s not full of spoliers or potentially important stuff, and that’s also short enough to not take too long write 😅

I'm quite bad at keeping ideas small, but if anyone has suggestions I'm always willing to give them a think at least!

Planet X makes his deer debut

He's a Huemul, or South Andean deer. They're the southern-most deer species, found in Argentina and Chile, living on high mountains and plains. They are hardy, cold-climate deer, so a good fit for an ice giant. And the distinctive Y-shaped face marking on the bucks reminded me of X's, well, X 😅

Their numbers have fallen by 99% from the estimated natural population, marking them as Endangered on the IUCN red list, so increasing the amount of people who even know these cool guys exist is extra important!

You said the next chapter will immediately follow up Chapter 7. Does that mean that 8 will be starting at the other perspective of one of the "bodies" that Earth had around him and all that transpired from the next POVs perspective? I really like how that was described, it really emphasized how disassociated Earth was from shock. Seeing all that from a coherent POV would be really interesting since we don`t know who was actually there to deliver aid to Earth.

I can definitely confirm the chapter starts from a new POV roughly 5-10 minutes before the end of chapter 7! And the POV is certainly nosy enough to get involved with the drama lol

Oh boy, I wish I could say I've been making progress, but beyond the starting few paragraphs and a more itemised plan, I've been pretty lax on this, sorry 😬

I'm gonna blame this entirely on academic crap. It's been beating my ass and I don't get the chance to focus on writing fics without feeling horribly unproductive lol.

I'm hoping to get the first section done this weekend, and that's usually the part that unlocks the rest of the chapter as I'm able to get into the new POV's head. As you can probably guess, following up on the events of chapter 7 is gonna be a fineline to walk in terms of getting all the moving parts to flow lol

I've got just over half a month to finish my experiments and write/code my results for a draft of my dissertation, and hopefully after that things will calm down as I'll no longer be beholden to 9-5 lab checkins and I'll get my evenings back for writing 😁

No idea when it'll be out, I've learnt my lesson about predicting these things, and I'm basically on hiatus with the react fics atm unfortunately :(
