tbh during conversations on prison abolition, the “what about the rapists” question is always just baffling to me
what about the rapists? in our current system they aren’t facing any sort of accountability, survivors aren’t being given the resources and support they need, and we’re not reducing the likelihood that rapists reoffend.
we’re not doing anything meaningful about rape right now, so why is the existence of rapists presented as a reason for not changing things?
imo the focus needs to be shifted off some generic “punishment” anyway. we need a system that centers survivors. ask survivors what they actually want and they’ll give you concrete material suggestions that would better their quality of life. all needed medical, psychiatric, and mental health expenses should be covered. relocation of their rapist should be provided if desired. no one should have to work while recovering from sexual violence if they don’t want to.
imo, support for survivors should be based on survivor’s needs, not based on either punishing or redeeming rapists.

I have watched too many trans women talk abt their awful life experiences for me to budge even slightly on my standing that they’re not a ~*privileged*~ group in any capacity. And if you think they’re all lying about it you’re just an abuse apologist at that point. You’re not gonna indoctrinate me no-siree.
