「 ✦ 001 - A Little Collision. ✦ 」
(y/n) sat at her desk, frowning at the homework that had somehow piled up in front of her. It was the last thing she wanted to deal with on a Saturday afternoon. The dim light from her lantern flickered as she stared at the parchment in front of her, the words blurring together.
With a frustrated sigh, she stood up from her chair, stretching her arms above her head. The sound of footsteps echoed faintly through the walls of her room, signaling the start of a peaceful evening at Hogwarts. A peaceful evening that was about to be rudely interrupted.
She threw her cloak on, trying to clasp at her throat. A quick glance in the mirror showed her the familiar, somewhat mischievous look in her eyes. She was pretty determined to take a break from the mountain of assignments weighing her down.
Without thinking much more of it, (y/n) slipped out of her room and started down the hallway, her dress shoes clicking softly against the stone floor as she walked, mind wandering to all the places she could wander to-- maybe the kitchens for a late night snack or the library to steal a glance at a certain someone's study habits...
Lost in thought, she rounded a corner sharpley, eyes still focused on her thoughts ahead.
BAM!
She collided head-on with something---or rather, someone---solid, sending her stumbling back. She gripped her shoulder steady herself, surprised by the force of the impact.
(y/n) blinked, her heart sinking slightly. She looked up, and there he was--- Draco Malfoy---standing tall with that usual smug look plastered on his face, his pale blonde hair falling perfecting into place. Of course, it had to be him.
"Malfoy," she muttered, her voice laced with the annoyance of being caught off-guard. "What are you doing in the halls at this hour?"
Draco raised a brow, taking in the sight of her. "I could ask you the same thing, (y/n)." he replied smoothly, his icy blue eyes glinting. "You seem to be on a mission. You're not running away from anything, are you?" He smirked, clearly enjoying the encounter more than he should.
(y/n) felt her cheeks flush, and she quickly composed herself, standing tall and looking at him with a raised eyebrow. "Not unless you're planning to cause trouble Malfoy."
Draco stepped a little closer, the air between them suddenly feeling thick. "Trouble?' he repeated, his voice lower now, almost playful. "I've never cause trouble in my life."
"Sure, keep telling yourself that," (y/n) shot back with a smirk of her own. Her heart raced a little faster than she cared to admit, and she tried to keep her expression neutral.
The tension was palpable now. The kind of tension that had been growing between them for months---never spoken aloud but always lingering in the background.
Draco took another step closer, tilting his head slightly. "I've got to say, (y/n)," he started, hsi voice turning softer, more dangerous. "You've been avoiding me lately. Something I should know about?"
(y/n) blinked, her breath catching in her throat. "I haven't been avoiding you," she said quickly, maybe a bit too quickly. "I just have more important things to do than waste my time talking to a Malfoy."
The words hung in the air for a moment, and (y/n) immediately regretted them. But Draco just chuckled, his lips curling into that signature grin of his.
“I see." His voice was a low drawl, and the mischievous glint in his eyes told her he wasn’t taking her words as seriously as she’d meant. "I suppose I can live with that... for now." He gave her a wink, his hand brushing lightly against her arm as he made to move past her.
(y/n) shivered slightly at the touch, her heart beating faster again, but she didn’t dare let him see the effect he had on her. Instead, she simply watched him go.
But then, just as he passed, he paused, glancing over his shoulder. "Maybe next time, (y/n), you won’t be so quick to bump into me."
And before she could respond, Draco was gone, leaving her standing there, heart still racing, the air around her still charged with the remnants of their brief encounter...
