psa: shipping real people is not only harmful to their mental state, but also harmful to their personal relationships, and writing sexually explicit fanfiction about people that exist in real life is creepy as well, and needs to stop. celebrities do not exist for your fetishization of them, and we need to start realizing that. you would not be comfortable if someone wrote a sexually explicit story about you, so why would a celebrity be comfortable with it? just because they’re famous does not mean you’re allowed to sexualize them and violate their privacy.
I have absolutely no idea who any of these people are but please, please, please listen - do. not. ship. real. people.
It really does ruin relationships and lives.
Celebrities are not there for our consumption.
It’s okay to ship real people but only in a way that you wouldn’t tell them and let life play out without your influence or input.
It’s one thing to tell a mutual friend, “y'know I always thought John and Jake would be a nice couple but I’m glad John found Jim, who I can see really makes them happy” and then moving on to ask how Jack is getting along with their new apartment.
And it’s another to write hate messages and threats to a person’s romantic interest who isn’t who you wanted them to be. And it’s simply rude to ask them everytime they’re around each other if they’re together or heavily implying the possibility of a romantic relationship.
Bottom line for me, I think if anyone wants to ship two or more real people and write about it, that’s fine as long as they’re writing it soley for themselves and one does not pester or bother the real people being shipped.
I myself have been guilty of shipping Cockles, for example, but I only talk about it with my friends and myself who do not post about the ship publicly on the internet nor do I or anyone I know write and publish real person fics about Cockles or any other activities that might make Misha or Jensen aware that they are being shipped.
If you’re someone who actively posts and participates in real person fics, I encourage you to imagine or think of a time you were “shipped” with a friend.
As someone who has been asked countless times if I was in a relationship with two different good friends at different times in my life, I must say that I can empathize with celebrities and am able to understand the damaging effects real person shipping can have.
Ive seen this happen a lot- the most recent thing I can think of is just recently when the kpop idol (save your groans and stay with me here) V or Taehyung, from BTS spoke about how fans shipping him and fellow member Jungkook together made him uncomfortable, especially so when the fans got sexual about it.
Jacksepticeye spoke about it a while back. Septicplier (The ship of him and friend/fellow Youtuber Markiplier) started out as just a joke between him and Mark, and he even said he was okay with fans just drawing them hanging out or hugging, because he and Mark ALREADY hung out and hugged and shit normal friends do. but then fans started taking the ship seriously, they send harassment to Wiishu and Amy (Jack’s then girlfriend and Mark’s current girlfriend) and it actually ruined their friendship for a good year or so. Jack said the fanarts and fics of he and mark in a relationship made them uncomfortable, and when they started getting sexual, they made the discomfort worse. It got to the point they couldn’t film video’s together because the comments would be flooded with Septicplier stuff. I’ll try to find the video where he speaks about this and some other info when I can but I wanted to bring forth a few examples I could think of off the top of my head.

Personally I don’t consider it incest— no matter how strongly hinted at the “Dabi is a todoroki” theory is (and no matter how much I want it to be true,,,,) until it’s actually confirmed, I won’t call them siblings.
