Movie Poster Final

I really liked this project, mostly because I had the chance to draw something out for this assignment. It was challenging trying to come up with a composition that would work, and also not making the space look too empty. You have to tell the movie in a way through the poster so the audience can know what to expect. I want to say I was successful but I’m not too sure, I feel like you can’t get a read on what this movie would be about looking at it without a synopsis to support it. Otherwise, I had a fun time working on the project at home ad learned a couple of new tricks regarding Photoshop and lighting figures in a dramatic space.

I still need to scan something in and add the father; if there’s no more tim then I’ll just stick with the two figures.

I don’t like the shadow on the girls face, though I think the shadows on the mask are pretty good. I might change the type of shadow too ; instead of using a soft brush, I’ll use a harder edged one, so it can look more animated and not too soft.

Movie Poster - Elysia

TITLE: ELYSIA

IDEA:

So for my movie poster I have the idea of creating a plot surrounding my mask project. The mask represented a true lawful neutral character that didn’t bother to stay on a moral good/bad side. I plan to make my Elysian mask the antagonist of the movie.

In a previous piece of art of mine, I had created a young latinx witch, and I want her to be the protagonist of this movie.

PLOT:

As for the plot, the Elysian mask wants to make away the witch’s father; he is too sick and the mask wants to take him away once and for all. The witch, in other hand believes that there’s a way to use witchcraft or medicinal witchcraft to make her father better. The two clash and the witch believes that the mask is trying to cause harm, ending lots of peoples lives and looking to end her fathers.

RESEARCH:

This type of movie would be an action sci-fi movie. Here are some movie posters from the genre. I’m planning on taking some composition tips from these:

Particularly the Iron Man poster, I’ve also created two other compositions of my own.

A lot of the compositions fade to black, and there are floating busts and heads. I really like the middle composition ; the Elysian mask would be the largest and most important ; marking it as a main character in opposition to the witch, facing opposite. As for the three characters below, I have an idea to add some people to the witch’s crew. Maybe some other older teens who practice witchcraft, or maybe just normal friends. I’ll probably throw in my witch’s father in there too, because the plot includes him.

I’ll be drawing the poster on Photoshop using my Wacom tablet ; I don’t know if my personal computer will be able to take on 20′x30′ but I might bring my own tablet to school to work on it. I want to use dark tones for the poster, and have some dim lighting just like the posters above.

Logotype is still to be determined.

My finished Google Doodle

I enjoyed making the Doodle, even though I had a hard time animating it. The Blending turned out to be the easiest yet hardest part to get right. I still was not able to really have a clean blend, but I think the doodle turned out for the best. In the critique, it was said that the animation was too fast, even though I myself thought it was a little slow. Though now I do see that the animation is a little short and could of used a pause at the end for the viewer to really take it in. I like working in Illustrator but making designs and making them not look to simple is a challenge.

GIf example on Photoshop, I made 4 frames using the Timeline window and capturing changes in the layers.

Today I re-did the animation for the Spacesuit and Letters.

I opened a new Document and figured out the Blend for the letters and the suit, and then placed the layers back into their respective layers of the original illustrator file.

It looks a lot smoother now, all I have to do now is make the repeat a little smoother and see if I want to add any debris floating in the background.
