She’d felt it churning up inside her, a horrific feeling that filled her from head to toe, swarming out of every pore and consuming her completely. She didn’t want to allow it, she wanted to resist it with everything she could, but it was everywhere. She was drowning in it, choking on it, freezing in it and yet burning up in it at the same time.
There was little left the even resembled her once she’d changed entirely, when the darkness that had taken her had not been like before. She wasn’t allowed a human form with which to move and be manipulated within. No, this form was just a beast, terrible and formidable. All that remained of Aqua was the torn bits of her clothing scattered around it, tiny bits clinging to it’s claws and to the spikes that jutted from the jagged shackles and chains attached to it’s front legs.
The beast tipped it’s head back and howled, a mixture of an animal and Aqua’s own scream rippling out from it’s throat as it moved, unfettered by any obstacle that dared to stand in it’s way. It smashed rocks with frightening ease, it's claws leaving deep grooves in the ground as it tore across the landscape, a small, almost easily missed building on the edge of town. Beyond it lay so many, many fresh, bright hearts ready to be devoured, but within this damaged structure was something, or rather someone, of far greater concern.
The creature howled again, it's cries shaking the exposed wooden beams.
The male had just come back from another time away, tired and wanting to relax in the place he would call home away from home. It had been fixed up quite a bit, even if it was the middle of the slums. For once, the church looked nice...from the time Cloud had actually fell into it from above all those years ago.
Cloud had only did some small things today; that included moving the benches inside, and sweeping. He was a bit too tired for anything else. Sitting on the two tiered stairs to the pew, he closed his mako hues, and started thinking to himself for a bit. About how much had changed since then. It was staggering.
However, that little moment of peace seemed to end as he heard a thumping that only seemed to get closer.
And then...
A corner of the church was destroyed in a flash, mako hues only turning wide at the antagonist behind that vandalism.
Standing up, the male pulled his sword from behind him.
"--never really get a break, do I..."

--Boy, am I glad that's over.
Tifa looked up at him sadly with a sigh. "I...guess I'll go get it then..," she whispered, slowly turning around and walking up the stairs. One lonely tear slid down her cheek as she went to go get the phone.
"Tifa, forget the phone," he said sternly. "I'm not going anywhere because I feel like staying. You asked me to stay and then at the first opportunity, you're trying to get rid of me. Which one is it: stay or leave?"
“You came back, that’s what counts,” Aqua replied, her voice a bit muffled as she settled against him. “Oh, and did you notice? My voice came back. I couldn’t speak last time I saw you.”
“Oh yeah, I didn’t notice that, because we’ve been having a conversation this entire time…” He laughed a bit, continuing to stroke through her hair. “—I can’t believe you waited for someone like me. Didn’t I tell you about that…?”
“Didn’t tell em what?” Aqua asked curiously, “You’re not normally the most… talkative Cloud…”
"Waiting for me. Waiting for me is like waiting for paint to dry..." He sighed again. "I just hope you've been keeping busy at the least."
“You came back, that’s what counts,” Aqua replied, her voice a bit muffled as she settled against him. “Oh, and did you notice? My voice came back. I couldn’t speak last time I saw you.”
"Oh yeah, I didn't notice that, because we've been having a conversation this entire time..." He laughed a bit, continuing to stroke through her hair. "--I can't believe you waited for someone like me. Didn't I tell you about that...?"
Tifa sighed and nodded a little but she still didn't look at him. She folded her arms underneath her breasts. "It's just...There's a little voice in the back of my head...and it sometimes says that you'll end up leaving again..," she began but was interrupted by the ringing of the phone upstairs for Strife Delivery Service. She looked at him. "You should get that...I need to finish cleaning up the bar..."
He turned back to the barmaid, looking at her with mako hues. "--yeah, well, you know I tend to do that." He leaned against the wall. "Let it ring. Don't want to answer it. Because I'm staying here tonight, Tifa. Let it ring." Cloud's eyes looked at the ground.
“I will blubber all I want, mister. They’re happy, tears you know. C“an’t get sick form something like that.” Aqua said, brushing her eyes off on her own sleeve after Cloud had missed a few.
He had to give him a second glance, his own bright eyes awash with confusion.
“What did you do? I don’t suppose you just went somewhere and stared at a wall all this time. Share, there must be something.”
“Actually…if you really want to know…” He turned around. “I’ve just been at the church. The entire time.” He sighed. “I was just thinking about somethings on my own time, without question of others.”
Aqua paused, a little dumbstruck by his reply. She hadn’t gone looking for him, imaging that he’d gone too far or to someplace too secure to ever be found. But really, he’d been so close all this time. Alone with only his thoughts and regrets.
“… And what conclusion did you come to?” she asked hopefully.
“Time alone is a good thing,” he said boldly, closing his eyes. “It’s never a bad thing to just be alone with yourself for a while as long as you don’t let it control you. I’ll admit, there were a few times when I did almost lose it, but I’m alright.”
“… I’m glad you didn’t,” she added, leaning forward to embrace him again, “Lose control, that is. I think you might have better control than I do, Cloud. There have been times when I have come so close to giving, I could feel the icy breath of doubt on the back of my neck… and I was ready to greet it like a friend. Welcome it even. I don’t think lonliness suits me anymore.”
"--it's something that takes time, Aqua..." He sighed. "You don't suit being alone. You have a light that shines bright and attracts others. That's a simple fact." He rubbed her back then pulled her back against his chest. "--I'm sorry for leaving you, Aqua."
“Hmm? Is there something I can do to help with that, Cloud?” the barmaid smiled gently with a slight tilt of her head.
“You don’t have to stress yourself over me, Tifa…Just realizing how quiet everything is since my return…”
Tifa sighed a bit and sat down. “I know…and I’m sorry. It’s just..,” she paused and looked away. “Even though it’s quiet…it gives us a chance to think about what we wanna accept…y’know?”She looked back at him. “Are you here..? To stay?” she asked softly, quietly, with hopeful eyes.
"For a little while, yeah, probably. I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon, Tifa." He looked up at her. "...it's not your fault, so don't apologize. I'd rather it be quiet than hectic..."

"Consider this ordered and in my house. I now have a reason to wear shades indoors."
Yeah—you want a mean right hook straight to the face?
That's a long distance from where you're standing, Tidus. Sure you can reach my face, shortie?

You going to make me?
Well it’s not like it goes away just like that. I promise, I’m fine.
--you look like a puffer fish.
Yes , Cloud. I’m fine.
Not when your eyes are still swollen from tears.
