“oh, i’m so sorry to bother you,” della shifted the weight to another foot, her arms crossing in front of her defensively, “but would you mind moving your bag? it’s taking up the only seat here?”
goldxnclara:
clara didn’t answer at first, taking a long sip of her drink while she thought it over, tried to make some sense of it. there was no such luxury of clarity.
“depends on what you saw,” she finally said, looking at della. “but i definitely saw you, which means you know something about this. right? i’m not alone in this.”
it wasn’t the fear of being alone in her experience, so much as the fear of not understanding what was going on. the doctors she’d been to hadn’t found anything, and there wasn’t any history of mental illness in her family as far as she could remember. and yet… the visions came.
“i, i saw...sand, i think? i saw you or what looked like you. i...have you seen these before?” della bit her lip, trying her best to understand what had happened. she was trying to make sense of it all. everything felt so real.
“i...i don’t know, do you think anyone else saw?”
msxmysterious:
“Probably.” Eva hadn’t really experienced anything that was worth not remembering (assuming she did remember it in the first place), but once you got older she knew that life got harder. It wasn’t exactly uncommon for people to have lives where negativity and hardships presumed. At least now the conversation was switching to something else. Well, it would have if something else hadn’t happened first. Suddenly, her phone starts heating up and the woman is transported. Light rushes toward her and then there’s sand. It’s everywhere and now people are too. Before Eva can think too much about it, she’s back in the car with her driver. Never have these visions had other people in them before. That could only mean one thing: someone was onto her. And that did not make Eva happy. “Look, are we almost there? I want to get the fuck out of this car.” She was trying to act casual, but, in reality, the brunette was really freaked out.
the breaks slammed in front of omnia, but della was no longer there. she was seated, but all around her was sand and it was everywhere, whipping around her, seemingly falling from the sky. she could see others, shapeless figures in the distance. she had seen these before, sparingly, fleetingly, wondering if it was her own imagination. but this was too real to be anything she created.
“yes, yes. we’re here!” della half-screamed, “th-thank you for driving with me.” she could feel what could only be described as a panic attack happening. why did she feel so claustrophobic in an open world of sand? why had this vision, of sorts, gotten so bad, so quickly?
della too, was shaken up, her hands clenching the wheel of her car so hard her knuckles turned white, breaking out into a cold sweat, but this girl behind her couldn’t help her. she hadn’t seen the same thing. or maybe she had and della just didn’t see her. regardless of the case, she needed a few minutes to collect her thoughts.
goldxnclara:
“well, there’s no need to take dating apps too seriously,” clara shrugged. “i mean, it’s a little embarrassing to turn to one… but that’s just how we are now. and as long as you’re offering, i’ll have a cape codder.” the couple seated next to her, giggling madly, left for the dance floor, and clara gestured to the newly-vacated stool beside her. “and you… should probably get something stronger than a wa-ter…”
she’d hesitated in the middle of that last word, because something peculiar happened; the lights in the club dimmed, and then went out all at once. power outage? clara thought but could not say. her mouth was suddenly dry, and she almost didn’t notice through the pounding of her blood in her ears that the club was silent, something that would never happen if the lights went out suddenly.
then clara blinked, and her surroundings changed. she was still seated on a bar stool, but she was alone, perched in the middle of a desert. it was as if the building had crumbled right around her into the sand, the sun burning her skin and the wind blowing dust through her hair.
not quite alone, though. she could see other people around her, scattered around in the desert, not so far off that she couldn’t make out their features, not so close that she could really tell who they were… and to her left was della.
dazed, clara raised a hand to touch her hair, thinking she should try to shake the sand off first - and immediately something in her head clicked, and she was back in omnia. it took her almost twenty seconds to gather her thoughts and find her words.
“what the fuck just happened?”
there was a stunned silence, the wind whipped around her face, it was as if she was in another dimension. what had happened? she...she couldn’t comprehend what she had seen. she reached out, trying to figure out if there was an explanation for this. it was like watching something straight out of a movie, watching the world collapse into sand and dust, las vegas being returned to its original form, before man had made it’s mark on the landscape.
but, then the world seemed the bend back into reality and there was nothing, there had been nothing, the dance music raved on and the bar was in front of her, still littered with napkins from a mess she had made that now felt like it had happened years ago.
“i...” she paused, taking a pause to gasp for air. it felt like she was winded, the life sucked out of her - why had that happened. “i don’t know.”
she ordered the drinks quickly, shaken up, “did...did you see what i saw?”
msxmysterious:
“You get your kicks from strangers?” Eva chuckles at herself, watching cars drive past while they’re stopped, hoping her comment will make things more interesting. This conversation is turning into a real snooze-fest and she’d rather kick things up a notch. The green light changes out of the corner of the woman’s eye, and they slowly begin moving again. “And why’s that? Do you like to sabotage yourself too?”
“well, no...” della inwardly groaned, “not exactly - i just meant that everybody has more important, more exciting lives than mine, is all. bad..choice of words. i just have a past i’d rather not remember, isn’t that most people though?” “ehh, life, i work for uber, not enough money to go to school, no other decent paying jobs. still gotta pay rent, so, i drive people around...getting a glimpse about what a walk on the more adventurous side might be like.”
goldxnclara:
clara had to admire della’s methods, even if she didn’t entirely approve of her intent. “you never sneak into clubs, or you never get invited to events thrown by wildly successful dating apps?” she quizzed, raising an eyebrow. she glanced at her own glass and sighed - most of it was gone now, and there was hardly any saving it.
“either way. i guess stuff like this happens. i’m going to get another drink, can i buy you anything? seeing as you spilled your own too.” she gestured at della’s glass. maybe the alcohol was already getting to her. she wasn’t always this generous. “just to start you off. i hope you’re having a nice time all the same.”
“is that what this is...that vibe app? i’ve had it on my phone for months and never used it. so, i guess, no to both,” she let out a small chuckle.
“oh,” della pondered the question, “i guess i should be asking if i should buy you a drink, seeing as i spilled it all over you! i was just drinking water, but of course, this is a club, so...how ‘bout i get first round? what are you drinking?”
hello, friends! im currently away on vacation, so i wont be as active as normal (expect replies in the AM/PM each day), but give this a like and I'll reach out to plot. :) i'll delete this on monday-tuesday-ish?
goldxnclara:
clara had been expecting defensiveness. maybe a little resistance even. what she wasn’t expecting was for the other to start apologising profusely, spill her own drink, and then attempt to clean everything up on her own while clara watched, slightly bemused.
“alright, that’s… it’s fine, breathe,” she instructed, her authoritative side taking over. she took the napkins from the girl, dabbing at the front of her dress. at least the material wasn’t too absorbent. out of the corner of her eye she spotted the bartender glance over at them, clearly concerned by the mess, but she waved a hand at him - don’t worry, we’ve got this - and he nodded almost imperceptibly, turning back to his task at hand.
“i’ll give you this, honey, you know how to make a real mess,” she commented, in a better mood now that she could kind of see the humour in the situation. she swiped a napkin along the side of the bar to catch the rest of the water and stop it from getting onto the floor - the last thing they needed was to cause another accident - and started pushing the used napkins into a small pile to let the bartop dry. “you feeling less jittery now?” she finally looked up to meet the girl’s gaze.
it was… the driver who’d dropped her off outside omnia not an hour ago. “i thought you were working. della, did you say?”
“you are a saint,” della said, trying to mop up the remainder of what she could. she really didn’t need her dress to be ruined, it was the only semi-nice one she had and even that was cheap, by this place’s standards, she was on the outside looking in, even though she was, technically “in” for whatever party was being thrown. whatever it was, she certainly didn’t get the invite.
“i’m fine, thanks, just incredibly clumsy.” she buried her head in her hands for a second before taking another peek at the girl - she looked familiar, she passed by thousands of faces every day, but this girl...she was something else, something recent. maybe she had driven her here? bingo.
“uhmm, yeah. hi!” she gave a small wave, “i kind of snuck into the back, you just made this sound so fun and i figured, why not check it out? i never do this sort of thing!” she gushed, trying to articulate why she had snuck in, in the first place.
msxmysterious:
“I couldn’t care less about the price. It’s better riding in a car than walking.” Eva laughs at her words, but is also irritated. Although the response from her driver wasn’t probably meaning to come off the way it did, the words ‘not for you obviously’ rub the twenty-five year old in the backseat the wrong way. “I just meant it’s probably better than driving around all night. That’s all. You could probably easily talk your way out of this and enjoy yourself, but that’s all up to you, dear.” Eva locks her cell phone and looks out the window. God, hopefully this ride would be over soon.
“oh, i would definitely agree,” della gave a half-hearted smile, drumming her fingers against the steering wheel as she waited for a light to turn from red to green. “and...no, driving all night - there’s something oddly calming about it? i’d rather just sit back and watch the night unfold. i never know where one passenger will take me.” the bright lights reflected the sadness of her stare in the driver’s side window and della took a large sigh.
“enjoying myself, not really in the cards right now.” she chuckled, half-joking, and yet, half-extremely serious.
msxmysterious:
“Yeah, yeah, and make it fast.” She pauses before thinking to add a “please” and seem more polite. Eva types on her phone in the back seat of the Uber ride she’d ordered a while back, but it seems to her that even the light amount of talking right now was too much. The brunette isn’t one for idle small talk, though that was something she only told people that were close to her, which mostly included her friends from back home. Here in Vegas she was purely under the fake persona she gave off to people, and that was only to draw them in and make them comfortable. Manipulating people was always easier when they didn’t have their guard up and in the way.
When the girl driving speaks again, Eva raises her head, holding herself back from rolling her eyes pre-response. “How long does your shift go tonight? Maybe you can cut it short and find yourself in a more… ideal situation,” she jokes with light chuckling.
.”ehh, shifts vary from day to day, i set my own time. but it’s better at night, not for you obviously, but surcharge pricing at 3am when everything starts to get dead for the night,” she let out a half-hearted chuckle.
“what’s going down at omnia tonight...is that the ideal situation?” della retorted, turning down a side street zooming right along. she could tell that the brunette didn’t want to be bothered, but della didn’t really care. her last few passengers had been pretty rough, she deserved small talk and damn it, she was going to get it.
goldxnclara:
there are way too many people in this club, clara thought to herself. it was nice to get out of work and let loose sometimes, but she’d always done it with a group of friends where they could book a table and stay away from everyone else while still having fun. but clara was here alone tonight, and fun was more trouble than it was worth.
at least there was alcohol, that she could handle. skirting the dance floor, she made her way to the bar, hopping onto an empty stool. the bartender turned to her, took her order, and in a couple of minutes a sweating highball glass was placed in front of her. that was something she could appreciate about this place, clara mused - at least the bartenders were efficient, even at an event like this.
she didn’t like to mix her work and personal life, but tonight was different. she hardly had a friend in the club here, and her next best friend would be her work email. in the poor lighting, the glare of her phone screen nearly blinded her when she started it up, but her eyes adjusted fairly quickly, and soon she was scrolling through her messages while sipping at her drink.
it had a calming effect on her almost immediately, and she stopped paying attention to the people around her - until someone bumped her elbow, causing liquid to slosh over the side of her glass onto the bar, and onto the front of her dress. it would dry soon enough, but the sudden cold was enough to shock her into annoyance. “what the hell?” she exclaimed, pulling away to glare at the person. “watch yourself!”
the back entrance was as good as the front, nobody was watching it and she snuck in easily through the back kitchens, finally hitting the club itself. she didn’t dance, oh god, she was terrible, but della liked the vibe it was giving off. she clearly didn’t fit in, with all these glamorous people and although she had been in vegas for two years, her demeanor was that of a school girl - she was simply to naive and innocent for this type of place.
she sat at the bar, swinging her legs like a toddler, ordering a water of all things. and sat back contently. at least she could relax and watch the crowds for awhile. she always did love to people watch. a good song was playing, too good of a song. and she found herself swaying to the rhythm. her elbow knocked into someone, sending the drink onto her dress.
almost immediately, della recoiled in horror, trying to minimize the scene of the crime. “oh, gosh, i’m so, so sorry!” she fumbled for napkins across the bar, spilling her own water in the process all over the bar, “oh, geez!” she finally swiped a handful of napkins and began pressing them onto every surface she could find.
“i’m so, so sorry, again!” she was blushing furiously. the last thing she wanted to do was draw any attention to herself, “here!” she thrust the napkins at the young woman, “i definitely did not mean to do that!”
della faced forward in the front of her silver ford focus, trying not to draw too much attention to the fact that they were in a rather shady part of town, pretty far off the strip. but business was business, and she wasn’t going to turn down a nearly forty dollar ride when she was low on tips tonight. rent was due and nothing like a few shady runs to ensure she could keep the electric on.
“so, we’re headed to omnia nightclub, is it? any big things planned?” she tried to get things agreeable in the car, after all, nobody liked an uber driver who stared creepily back at their rider the entire trip. especially when this particular trip would clock in at just under half an hour, with the way the strip was this time of the evening.
“what i wouldn’t give to be out there,” della chuckled lightheartedly, giving her new companion no time to talk, “it’s always so bright and festive, people winning money and drinking and just...no cares.” she sighed as she drove down some side alleys, quicker to the destination.
