Demi stood in front of his mirror, a lamp with a dim bulb sitting on the desk in between him and his reflection, and lighting both figures with a dull, warm glow. Demi put a hand to his face and gently pulled down on his left cheek, which made part of his face droop from the gesture. He then let go.
It was hard to see in the dim room, but Demi looked like he had been robbed of his ability to sleep, which isnāt entirely untrue. Deep, dark circles had formed around his dull, purple eyes, and bag-like wrinkles sat underneath them. His skin, which usually was almost as pale as the moon, had a glowing orange hue to it due to the lighting.
ā...How...?ā Demi uttered, his voice lowly echoing in the empty room. The lamp on his desk flickered, and the air grew damp.
āHow did it come to...this?ā Demi continued. As the light went out, a burst of coldness entered the room. The boy tightened his arms around himself instinctively. He whimpered under the sudden chill.
From behind the small boy sat a large black puddle on the floor. The puddle shifted, and a tall, slender figure risen out of it. Itās form was pitch black and was completely constructed out of the fluid. From itās sides, two thick, dripping tentacles lifted from the liquid figure and placed themselves on Demiās shoulders, slowly shifting into two arms with sharp, wet claws.
āCome to...what, Dimitri?ā The figure spoke, speaking with a slight purr to itās voice. Itās smoothness was almost comparable to silk. From the left side of itās face opened a single, purple cat-like eye which provided a glow in the pitch darkness of the room.
After a moment of silence, the figure spoke once again.Ā āYou are no fun, Darkreed, as usual.āĀ It spoke, with disgust in itās voice.Ā āYou initiate a conversation and do not return it. What is the purpose of this conversation to begin with? To waste my time?ā It said, raising itās voice.
āYou are not any different from your talkative brother.ā
Demi turned to the figure with anger in his eyes, and black fluid, equal to the one the figure was composed of, streamed down his face. The slender body retracted itās hands.
āYou do not have ANY right to speak about him!ā Demi yelled at the figure, his voice and body shaking.Ā āYou do not have any reason to speak about my family what so ever!ā
āWhat is stopping me, Dimitri? I believe I can form my own opinion about you and your parents and siblings at this point.ā It spoke, curling a thick, damp tentacle around the small boyās body.
Demiās anger quickly dissapeared, and his eyes widened, staring at the mass circling around the boy.
āOh...did I hit a nerve? Much apologies. I never mean to speak ill.ā It said, sarcastically.Ā āI do hope your parents and brother rest easy...percisely six feet under earth.ā It said, a sick cheshire cat-like grin growing on itās face.
The boy angrily lunged at the body, who quickly dived back into its puddle, and quickly rose, striking Demi in the back with a tentacle. The boy screamed at the sudden violence, collapsing onto the floor after the short jump. The figure slowly slithered toward Demi.
āHow pathetic. You really are of Darkreed roots.ā
āTo answer your earlier inquiry, it came to this because of a irresponsibility. An irresponsibility that has flown through your familyās veins for as long as they have existed.ā It said, slithering closer to Demi and bending down, its form dripping onto the boy.
āI thought you would be different, Dimitri. I have given you a chance, and you totally...as your kind say...āblew it.āā
āI assume I do not need to prove myself even more from this display of action from you, Dimitri. I am...dissapointed.ā It taunted, another grin curling onto itās face.
āI shall bid farewell for now, Dimitri. I assume you want to be left to yourself.ā It said, slowly sinking back into the puddle from whence it came.
āOh...but I forgot. I am part of you for until your last drawn breath. Do we not make a fantastic team, Dimitri?ā It spoke.
As the desk lamp flickered back on, a sob forced itself out of the boyās mouth, followed by a moan.
This was not an unusual night for the pair.
