❧ | Weeks of training and nobody likes the idea but it isn't their choice, it's hers and they can't argue with her, not with their goal in sight and everything in the works to make sure that this runs smoothly.
It is hard hiding it from everyone, she's heading out on a business trip is the story that they all agreed on but really, she's gone a lot further than that. Irene had told them that she can do this, that she's strong enough to handle it but there is still worry in the back of their minds as they watch the dark-haired woman unfurl her wings and disappear into the night.
"Did she tell them?" Chris asks, looking at his friends and Alice shakes her head.
"She knew that if she told them then they would stop her. They would all find a way to keep her here and find a plan that didn't mean her returning back." The Muses look at each other, solemn expressions on all their faces. "Hui said he'll keep an eye on Chris, make sure he doesn't try to rescue her while Jangmi said she'll go see YangYang and check in on him, help him if he needs it."
San runs his fingers through his hair and sighs, "I think I should talk to Chris, he knows me at least." Hui scratches his chin about to argue when he speaks up again, "besides, I think it would be better to come from someone who knows Irene. I'll talk to her friends as well."
"I've got T, Irene has a gift for her," Chris says, lifting up a small bear.
Lucas stands quiet next to Alice, looking at the soft plushie, "she's coming back, right? Irene will be okay."
"She's heading to Hell, pup, what do you think?" Kai pipes up and Alice shoots him an annoyed look. "I'm sure she'll be fine." He quickly adds with a not-so-reassuring smile.
They stand there staring at each other, one with a barely veiled venomous expression and the other feeling rather victorious. "You belong to me," Lucifer says, a smug grin adorning his handsome face. "There's nowhere to run anymore, you are here and mine."
"I'm here because like a perpetulant child, you keep sending your demons after people I care about." Irene folds her arms over her chest, eyes narrowing at the man before her. "A King should know better than to throw his toys out of a cot, seems your Father didn't love you enough."
This causes his grin to turn into a scowl and his lip to curl. "You're just like me then, my Queen. Your mother gave you up to save your sister, your life simply wasn't worth holding onto." Irene scoffs, unlike Lucifer, she has forgiven her mother because she would have done the same. He doesn't seem to like how his words no longer get the desired reaction, Irene standing her ground with him rather than giving in to his game.
They stand there, staring at each other for a while. Lucifer looks pissed off while Irene is calm, despite her closed-off body language. She feels like she has gained the upper hand, has shown Lucifer that he can't beat her down this time, that she won't take his shit but Irene could never have imagined what he would do next.
Her eyes widen, face turning to the side from the sheer force, hand raising to her reddening cheek. Irene isn't sure what to feel in this case, as much as he's mentally destroyed her and allowed his demons to torment her, Lucifer has never struck her before. "You are nothing more than a glorified trophy wife, my dear,” he hisses as he grabs her chin, forcing her to look at him, “don't think that you can play with me like that. If I need to break you down to your very core to make you mine again, I will."
As much as Irene wants to fight back, she can’t. She needs to wait, be patient and keep herself sane. Lucifer can try and hold her down but there's one thing he always forgets - you never mess with the Queen.
