Broad coalition to announce support for urgent plan to resolve crisis facing New York’s democracy, including expanding and protecting voting rights, publicly financed elections, and other reforms
New York, NY - On Thursday, NYC elected officials will join a broad and diverse coalition of community, labor, good-government and advocacy organizations and activists to announce their support for a new, urgent effort to ensure that the voices of everyday New Yorkers are being heard by New York State government and not drowned out by the influence of the very wealthy. Thursday's event is part of a weeklong kickoff of the Demand Democracy coalition, which launched with an event Monday in Albany. Speakers will address the need for Albany to pass a full set of electoral, campaign finance, and ethics reforms, including instituting publicly funded elections, closing the LLC loophole, modernizing New York's antiquated voting processes, and expanding and protecting voting rights for all New Yorkers.
