The Smiths - Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want
I’m lucky if I ever see the light of day again
Dangerous (feat. Joywave) // Big Data
Came Out Swinging || The Wonder Years
Richard was taken aback by everything at once. He could hear her music blaring from her headphones like they were plugged into a goddamn stereo, and there was a faint chattering as well. He pinned that, however, on the crowds from outside the city, there was no way he could be hearing her thoughts, he wasn’t that talented…or insane, or whatever.
With a quirked eyebrow, Richard walked around to the back of the counter to reach the register. “Well, feel free to look around I guess. We have a sale going on right now. If you buy two albums from the same band, the third’s free.” It was a shitty “sale” but he was pretty sure he’d be fired if he admitted it.
"Thanks." Lucas quickly replied to him, wanting to hurry up and get out of here. She could feel her neck beginning to ache, knowing that those gross black splotches would start to appear. They were still screaming. About what, she didn't know. She couldn't make out what they were saying through her music and she didn't mind that much.

This must end here before I lose myself in you …*_*

Richard was never on time for work, so he wasn’t sure why Thom always asked him to open all the time. Probably because the fucker was always hungover. But, once again, Richard had slept in, gotten on the wrong subway route, and been unable to catch a taxi…then been unable to pay the cabbie. After some repeated apologies, loud insults and dirty looks, the poor bastard was jiggly the lock of the small record store in downtown Chicago, opening up the door and flicking on a light.
Not long after, someone entered. A pretty rare occurrence, especially so early. It was 10am and Rich was already exhausted, but he turned to acknowledge whoever it was anyway.
All she wanted was some alone time. All she wanted was some fucking alone time. Even with her music playing almost at full blast, she could still hear them speaking, almost as if they were screaming. They always found it entertaining to disturb her when she was trying to relax. Ugh, they were such a pain in the ass.
She eventually found the record store that she was looking for, one that promised her even more music to drown out the annoyances with. She opened the door only to be greeted by some employee who looked like he just rolled out of bed. She replied with a "Hey," which sounded a bit more rude than she actually intended.
Was she whispering to herself? He couldn’t make out the words, but there was a low inconsistent hum in his ears, and those damn billows of smoke wouldn’t go away no matter how many times he rubbed his eyes, blinked, or looked away.
"What?" the question came as a surprise, he hadn’t caught it until a few moments after the words had been left in the air. "I’m alright. Just a bit hungover." A lie, though not an obvious one. You spend half your life as a hopeless mess, and the look it gives you never really goes away. If he wanted to sound like an annoying asshole he’d say he was hungover from all those years. Richard quickly rubbed the bridge of his nose and sighed.
"Listen did you need something, or do you think you could take your chain-smoke cloud outside?"
"Chain-smoke cloud?" He... he could see them. He didn't know what they were but he could obviously see them. Lucas' eyes widened as she tried to figure out what to do. She had never had this happen before and she never thought that something like this would ever happen. She heard the small mutters of Lucy and Nigel telling her to get out of there, but she stayed despite their nagging.
She decided in that moment that she needed to know what was going on with this guy. What kind of person could just see two demons that had been cursed to her? Was he another demon hunter? If that was the case then he would know exactly what they were and who she was. "What exactly are you seeing?"
Richard stared wide eyed for a moment before wiping his eyes and squinting. Shit, was he hyper-sensing smoke now? She didn’t smell like cigarettes…Besides, wouldnt it be gray clouds, now black? This is it, Rich. This is the day you go entirely crazy.
"Right….." he trailed off, clenching his fists and closing his eyes for a moment too long. He cleared his throat, walking behind the buy counter to at least pretend he had been here for a while.
"Can I help-" he flicked his eyes to the shrouds of smoke. Did one just talk? Fuck. Fuck. No, he could handle everything else but he couldn’t be a schizo too.
"Are you alright?" Lucas asked, taking note of his strange behavior and flashing a genuinely considered look his way. She felt Nigel against her neck, really wanting to tell him to shut up before those black splotches began to appear like they always did, but this time she simply couldn't ignore what he had to say. "He looked right at me. If I had eyes he would have made eye contact with me. Something's not right."
"He keeps looking at us." Lucy chimed in, fluttering close to Nigel. "I say we leave. I know you walked all the way out here but I don't trust anyone who can see us." Lucas contemplated doing exactly that, but had to know what was happening. Even demons had a hard time seeing them, let alone a normal person who worked at a record store.

Lucas found the record store with some ease, even with the directions being given to her by Artie. Weston had offered to go with her, but she decided to go by herself, mostly because she needed some alone time. Or at least as close to alone time as she could get. Lucy and Nigel had been quite chatty for the duration of the walk, but she easily ignored them as she walked inside the store.
She was greeted by an employee who looked like he was about to pass out and awkwardly replied, "Uh, hi." She heard Lucy make a snide comment about how she should stop saying "uh" but again ignored it, letting Nigel defend her instead.
