Last day of winter break means being lazy right?
how to thank the parents I work for as a nanny
A nice card goes a long way. Or do something creative with pics you've taken of the kids.
Sitting at Children's Hospital with my newest charge trying to do that thing where I remind myself that the shit these kids put me through is all worth it for their smiles and watching them grow and learn... But with a special needs baby that proves harder some days than others.
My new job
So while Miss V is sleeping I'll update you. A couple weeks ago I asked for advice on taking a job with a special needs child. After talking it over with several friends I accepted and started last Thursday. V is three years old and suffers from Trisomy 18. I've just begun research on it so I don't know much. She's a sweetheart and always happy. I'm slowly mastering her feeding tube and daily cough assist to help develop her lungs. I'm with her Tuesday Thursday and Friday each week and being trained until I'm set free December 1st. It's an interesting job with a learning curve. The mom went over her physical therapies today with me along with concerns the doctors have about her physical development and things we need to gently correct so when I post this I will be moving to Pinterest to look at some infant activities I have set aside to see what I can rig and rework to suit V. So excited to part of this little girl's life but also nervous that I'm going to screw something up.
My new job is with a three year old girl with Trisomy 18. Her family has asked that i don't share pics of her online which is cool. You'll probably see stuff like this. The trickiest part of the job is dealing with air blowing back up her feeding tube at me. I know it's natural but this is so frustrating learning to work it out when it's stuck.
Children’s Book Exchange
On FB I got tagged in a children’s book exchange. Basically how this works is you send out 1 children’s book and get 36 back. Pretty awesome yes? Anyone who wants to play let me know and I’ll send you the info. But please note that you will be handing out a mailing address for this.
I've just been offered a job 3 days a week with a special needs little girl. She's 3-years-old but from what I saw during the interview is mentally 6-9 months old. My mom bring an LPN we're discussing it but have any of you been there and done this? Any advice?
Liam and Conner
So my posts from my phone all got ate the day I told you about my new Tuesday boys. Liam is 3 in November and Conner just turned one. They're the sweetest most well behaved toddlers ever. Pretty smart too proving Mommy works with them constantly. She works from home but has meetings and things that means she needs a little help. The sucky but is I've been with them all month and they just found out that they are moving to MI because of the dad's job. I'm super bummed but still have another month with them so I'm going to eat up the snuggles. Also random note but being called Miss Sarah is adorable and not nearly as weird as I expected.
I love these boys already.
Naps are my favorite. Hate to see these kids move at the end of October.
Spending my night at soccer practice with my little man.
Mollie is coming home at 3 today and nothing else matters.
Interviewed at 9 this morning, another at 9 Friday morning and a third Monday at 3:30. If I don't get a job soon I'll at least have been in a house in every subdivision in a 10 mile radius.
Note to self: in future interviews your favorite jeans and a good pair of boots always a confidence booster. Also try not to crush hands during the handshakes, you're not Hulk.
Just curious about how Care works from the parent’s side so I made an account. I understand their listings sooo much better now but am bummed that parents get communities and groups while nannies don’t get the same luxury. There are hundreds if not thousands of things bringing the parents together why don’t we get just one? But also learned that there are over FIVE THOUSAND childcare providers with in 10 miles of me, this compared to the only 450-500 jobs posted. Its a minor miracle I’ve ever gotten a job through this site
Weee found a groups listed on my account, its still catering toward the parents but hey its a start.
