Still! We really turned out and gave it our all! None of the other Round 4 votes exceeded 70k as far as I saw, but Caine vs Tenna reached 102,980 votes!!

hii! I saw your caine knight art and I was absolutely blown away by it, even more so since A) I don't follow you (yet) and B) I haven't watched TADC.

there's something about the linework especially that really caught my attention. it's loose and expressive while still reading as clean and I will probably reference it in future studies of mine to learn from it (if that's okay with you of course!).

to this purpose, I was wondering if you could post a colorless version with only the lineart? I'd love to see it!

Howdy! I'm glad you liked my design that much! And I hope you're able to give TADC a chance if you're interested. My take on the character is more humanely proportioned, than my fave ringmaster's actual canon design.

I don't think anyone has ever wanted to study my art like this before. I'm super honored, even though I personally feel like my art isn't really at a good enough level to study. I don't have a much of a strict line art layer since I tend to merge my layers often. So here's a colorless version.

I also tend to work reductively in some of the drawing areas. I do so in the boots and the helmet plume. So instead of white lines, I just use the eraser brush. I work in clip studio and I only used two free brushes for this piece: Drawing Pen (ID1967072) and rake painter/oil paint <3 (ID1853994).

I have a recording of my process to if that'd help in the studying. I like working with textured brushes and I tend to clean up my sketches rather than make real clean line art layers. I don't want to lose too much of the energy in my sketches.

one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid™ is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is better than starving.

DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU’RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE.

One of my college professors used to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.”  I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.

But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting.  Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible.  Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible.  Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly… because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.

You must understand that perfectionism isn’t striving for excellence, it’s a crippling fear of being flawed and therefore worth abandonment or punishment. It’s a kind of psychological avoidance. You’re avoiding fear and failure , not embracing the thing you want to do bc if it was about the thing you want to do you’d be fine with partial victory.

This is so incredibly important and I’m glad I saw it just now.

I’ve slowly come to the realization over the last few days that I’ve fallen into a very bad art trap. And that is that I haven’t been scribbling or sketching or experimenting. I’ve been trying to make One Perfect Postable art at a time.

Which is better than no art at all! But the pressure on that single art is quite heavy and becomes demotivating. So I’ll be going back to posting scribbles and sketches and any imperfect whatevers that I like even a little bit.

And I need to apply this logic to a lot more things in my life. I’m in the midst of moving right now though, so I need this reminder again mid august 🤣

Finally FINALLY FINALLY watched Iron Lung‼️

My gods it was PHENOMENAL! I feel I need to unscramble what actually happened, but like, in a good way! I legitimately enjoyed the ride! Markiplier did a fucking AMAZING job and I was so happy I was able to sink into the movie and not think “that’s Mark!” That was The Convict!!

I’m so excited to dive into the tag now 🤭
